Nothing reveals Humanity so well as the games it plays. A game of betrayal, where the most suspicious person is brutally murdered? How savage.

Quicktopic would be an optiom, I gues... Although there are some disadvantages (Mainly it's harder to check back on posts of a particular player), it's as much worth testing a game in quicktopic as hosting on a different website.

Anyway, if by some art of magic it were possible to filter the content of the Latest post feed in a similar way Google does it, (Typing Mafia would show only Mafia posts, and typing -Mafia would omit all Mafia posts.) I wouldn't call that 'breaking' the functionality of the feed, but, uh, expanding it! -- Actually, something like that would be plenty useful if you think about it...
I agree with you that that'd be awesome.

*the things you said*
I say skimmed, but what I really meant was "read very quickly and didn't take a lot of time thinking over because it didn't give me anything new to think about" -- sorry if I came across as ignoring what you said! I did take it into consideration, but, again, nothing jumped out at me to sway my opinion.
I guess I'm just trying to put it into perspective for you...? I mean, it's all well and good if this is the cause you want to champion -- all power to you! I just think it's not a huge deal and doesn't warrant anything more than a "oh those posts are annoying but whatevs I can wait until the fad dies down and just whine about how annoying it is to my friends" from the folks complaining.
You're allowed to disagree with me on that, but I'm also allowed to express that I think this is silly to quibble about, because I really do think this is a ridiculous topic to get up in arms about and I happened upon it when I was in a bad enough mood not to just roll my eyes and move on without saying anything. So it's too bad if ya don't like what I have to say, but that's what I think, and now I'm done with this, as the irony of my getting irate and continuing to post in this topic makes me want to puke a little.
There is a chance a fad will die down, but we don't know that for sure. Even if it had died down without us saying anything, at least now the people playing mafia understand that it can be disruptive in this way. So they can make an informed decision the next time they decide to play.
I'm happy to hear some of the mafia players are sympathetic. That's all I wanted. Thank you.
Oh, ok! I get ya. I don't want to try and lure you back in here, but I can't help but respond to what you said. Don't think anything is directed at you and I hope you have better days ahead :P
I don't have a problem with you thinking this is silly, but it's not necessary to tell me and it adds nothing to the discussion. Maybe in some cases, in other topics, it would start a flame war. You are free to post your opinion but if you continue to post after that it's becomes more than you simply expressing your opinion. You start another discussion about the validity of the first discussion. Nobody needs validation to discuss something, so it's really a moot point.
I picked things from your first post for a reason. It's a popular response to this kind of topic. You suggested I just ignore it by scrolling past; I wanted to point out that it won't solve the problem. You claimed the "complainers" were getting their knickers in a twist; I wanted to point out that the only ones getting wedgies were the "defenders". From the beginning I've been saying it's not a huge deal and I've been calmly explaining my point of view to every argument directed at me. FOR FUN~
What you did was see discussion about something trivial and you swooped in to claim it's pointless and that everyone was getting worked up over nothing. This response shows up in many discussions. In some cases, it's true. But in this case it isn't, yet the claims were still made. Probably because I had a lot to say, which somehow means I'm fa-reaking out hardcore. It's almost like internet users are conditioned to react this way. Any discussion, civil or not, is perceived as threatening and unruly.
Ok, now I'm ranting and making generalizations, but I'm trying to explain my philosophy on discussion and how it seems to be demonized. Debating is fun. That's what this was for me. Discussion is not drama. Logic and reason often get met with exaggeration and anger. Over and over the things I was saying were taken to extremes. For example; I suggested playing forum mafia somewhere else/not as much and I was accused of suggesting users cannot play games or socialize.
So yeah, if people are hurling insults and making snide remarks condemn the discussion because it isn't moving forward. But when it's as civil and to-the-point as I've been trying to keep it, there is nothing wrong with that.

I was going to read this whole topic. I'm bored already.
My opinion: post feed and notification features are useless to me. I'm only on this forum because I haven't found another forum with people I like. Who cares if some new kid is asking how to paralax map or if some game is being gabbed about for the neato battle system or if mafia is a popular topic where Dudesoft dies night/day one 99% of the time.
If mafia goes, I might as well stop Battledomes, Let's Draw, and FF Forum RP.
What's the point, this is a RM site. We should only mak gam not diddle over gams---oh I see now. Mafia is no good because the graphics aren't good enough?
They've made a game and are playing it, on a site about making games. Even if they didn't make the rules. Suck it up, buttercup.

Your missing the point, bro. You just made up a bunch of silly arguments, attached them to mine, and told me to get over them haha :D
Thanks for stopping by!
Here's a fun example:
heh
When people started occupying wall st, they had every right to. Right? Just like playing mafia. A bunch of hippies set up tents in the park(that's not like mafia xD) and now the park has little public use. An unintended consequence, I'm sure. After a few months don't you think the people who wanted to use that park had a right to complain? They would go for a walk in the park and were unable to ignore the sheer amount of protesters. It's kind of like that.
*here's where you probably want to scream that Latest Posts are not as important as the balance of wealth in society*
So far all the negative nancies who have come in here are framing my argument as if I was trying to take away their right to protest. Alls I'm saying is that I would like my park to go back to the way it was before all these post-esters started occupying it. Their cause is just but it's disruptive.
The specific issue here is trivial, but the underlying idea is pretty universal. Sharing space in a fair and respectful manner. Just like with the blogs. But, this is the internet so there are no such rules. Now would be a good time to spite me and play even more mafia. ;P
I just want this topic to stop. I will do anything.
My main miff, is you telling folks to take their games elsewhere. The main fun with mindfuck games, is getting to know the other players... Moving to another site, not only weakens rmn but weakens the fun of mafia.

Why are you editing your posts? You can't edit posts in mafia topics. You lose this argument!

Your posts are really long and aggressive, Link. Have you ever considered playing the game of Mafia? I think you would be a good fit.

Which parts are aggressive? I know that I'm receiving a lot of aggression.
haha I've read some mafia posts, it doesn't appeal to me. It's all conjecture and bluffing(I think). I prefer to talk about something tangent where I can make references, use examples, and get people all pissy xD Nah, I kid. They do that to themselves.
author=DudesoftYour taking one thing I said, which was just one suggestion of how to resolve this, and treating it like my main goal. Then you form your argument around it, taking it to an extreme conclusion(no games) that I did not imply. I've already explained that, at least once.

I like joke posts, too. Keep 'em coming. This should be fun and chill but you keep wanting to take it personally and make me a villain for talking about something that is important to not you.
Edit: I edited my post.
The real joke here is this topic. Cavedog already solved your problem.
Turn Welp Welp off of the Latest Posts feed.
End of story.
I'm making you out to be the villain because you persist to post diatribes to get a point across that clearly no one else cares about.
I die night/day one in mafia every time. I stopped playing out of frustration.
I try to run FF Forum RPG and mafia is always active. It's popular.
What I'm rambling about is that it's just part of RMN now.
If they can edit the feed code, great! If not... Welp, welp! There's nothing to fix!

That's it, it's time to bro down! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRpTjr4L4T4
xD
Clearly. Clearly nobody else cares because I created this topic and have been the only person who acknowledged that it's a little annoying(is that really what happened?).
I repeat. A little annoying. It's responses like yours that make this a big deal. It's you getting all bent out of shape over nothing while I continue to advertise that it's not a big deal for me. I'm calmly explaining my reasons as best I can.
If we can't filter the feed and mafia continues to reign supreme, shitty. If not, I'm prepared to move on with my life. This has already been established.
This was, for me, an exercise in debating. If you can debate about something as silly as this, then with a serious topic you'll be all set. I would like to have my concerns met with a friendly gesture of cooperation, but it's not necessary. I would be open to the concerns of others if the situation were reversed. I'm enjoying the back and forth, now it's your turn. If this isn't doing it for you, try some place else. I think a new mafia game is forming.
xD

"Did you say you find something annoying?! Let's get him, guys!"
But, I just think that the amount of mafia being played lately is a little excessive. It's having a negative impact our little feature.
"I didn't know that feature existed, so quit bitching. This isn't an issue."
Well, I wasn't really bitching just explaining things from my point of view. Here's the thing...yadda yadda yadda...so do you think you could at least take breaks between mafia games?
"The forums clearly state that we are allowed to play mafia games. It's a way for us to have fun and get to know each other. You can't take them away from us!"
I didn't say that, what I said was...repeat repeat repeat...I don't really care what happens. It would be nice to have things go back to the way they were before. An equal balance of game dev stuff and forum games.
"TL;DR. Stop crying about every little thing. I hate you now"
Love you, too.
It's going beyond the original issue because so many people feel the need to decide whats worthy of discussion. It's not ok for someone to decide what a worthy blog is, though. That's just downright fascism.
There's a hint of irony, or is it hypocrisy, that you defend the right to play mafia and use the forums however you want, then turn around and dismiss my right to discuss something however I want.
Help! Police! My right to discuss something is being violated!
The real joke is the attitude towards discussing something in a reasonable manner.
I'd talk about something else but it seems to be the main focus of all the nay-sayers.
You can have a different opinion without attacking me. I did not attack you. Why you gotta be so mean? I thought we were sort of chums, Dude. Did you have a bad day, too? I get it, you feel I'm spewing nonsense about something that you don't care about. Go ahead and click the back button, or X if you opened a new tab, and continue doing what you do. How is me talking about this affecting your usual activity in any way?.

That’s kind of true though. For some reason it’s something I’ve only really seen at rmn.
People are generally super, super, SUPER defensive about any kind of feedback related to rmn. If you start a discussion about something you dislike/ care about/ would like to improve, you instantly get those dudes parachuted out of nowhere with their:
“Shut up! This doesn’t matter to me and thus, it shouldn’t matter to you.” or the rmn classic: "I don't agree with you therefore this discussion is stupid"
I always the make the point of taking things a step further when I get those kinds of replies, if only to make the point that this is the feedback section and I’ll discuss whatever I feel like discussion around here.
If it doesn’t matter to you: stay off the topic or otherwise support your position with some reasonable arguments in a polite fashion. The whole point of giving feedback is to improve rmn. It doesn’t necessarily mean improve it to the detriment of some members by following one solution but rather discussing a variety of solutions and trying to find which one is the most viable which is why posts like: “Stop this heated discussion! I don’t care about this so everyone should therefore shut up” are not only completely useless but also lead to more confrontation and unnecessary hostilities.
People have a right to discuss what is important to them. It doesn’t mean they break down in a fury at their place smashing furniture. It just means they find some things a little annoying/irritating and would like to discuss it.
I personally find the Mafia thing is excessive and floods the whole place but not enough to create a topic about it. This being said, I respect Link’s right to do so even if I don’t think it’s that much of a big deal myself.
