author=Ghostauthor=LouisCyphreDid you even play the game? Holy shit, Balmung had one of the best battle systems ever made in that engine.
"Oh, Rudras. Sorry, I've already played Balmung."
It's a helluva lot more original then yours,

Don't take potshots at superior products, thanks.
Balmung is a great game. I'm disinclined to play Rudra games, because they remind me of Balmung so strongly.(before the actual game Treasure of Rudras, even)
Don't be so hasty to defend "the sanctity of the ancients".

A game doesn't have to do something new or dynamic to be fun. I tend to ignore those ones anyway in favor of oldschool goodness.
This is the worst sorry, I thought you were going somewhere but then you ended horribly.
I'm not alone. Are Blackmoon Prophecy, Hero's Realm, etc doing anything particularly new or challenging from what we've seen in the SNES era? I think the larger audiences are just looking to find games that are reminiscent of their childhood RPG memories.
Hero's Realm does have the whole "lots of classes", "tons of content to explore", and "intricately planned dungeons" things going for it, I'd like to note.
The sad truth is that the amateur/indie RPG audience don't look for innovation and creativity, they want throwbacks to the great era of jRPG's, in other words DQ and FF clones with cute anime graphics. That's just the way it is. If you want your indie game to succeed, it must be colorful and easily understood (=cliched as fuck). They don't care you use RTP graphics, because they don't have any idea what RTP might be...
"create something that will go down in RM history."
That's something I'm sure most makers want to do.
It's just a matter of when the general RM people figure out that there are games which can stand up to *insert classic RM game here.*
Because they do. They might have different features and goals,
but on the general level, many modern games are just as good as their predecessors.
While I find this topic to be interesting,
I do agree that this is something that will pop up until the end of time. Hell, I might make a topic like this 10 years in the future~

i think it is funny whenever someone has a bone to pick it will generate like 100+ posts on rmn. it is very hard not post negative content because it will get overlooked otherwise.
At a glance, here are a few games developed in the last year or so that I think are cool, interesting, or novel in some way.
I Miss the Sunrise
Zero Base
The Curse of Cpt. Loveless
Star Stealing Prince
Set Discrepancy
Aetherion
Adventure Ace
Demon Slayer
Lunatic Dream
Garden
Sundown Project
I don't know how many of these use the "rotate picture" command, nor do I think it's very relevant.
To be honest, I really detest topics like these. It boils down to "Why isn't everyone else making games that fit my particular tastes and standards?"
Better question, "Why aren't YOU making that game?" Why is everyone else obligated to do things the way you feel they should be done? Pretending that the fact that people aren't making the kind of games you like is indicative of some kind of moral failing on the part of this community, when you yourself haven't made anything that I'm aware of is honestly pretty laughable.
You want there to be more visually impressive games in this community? Awesome! Go make one. I completely support you in this endeavor. Write blogs about it! Post images! Show us what you're doing and why it's cool.
Do something, anything, other than bitch on the forums. We have too much of that already.

An insight into the original post:
So HERE'S what REALLY caused me to post this topic... if you must know.
I like screenshots. I frequent your screenshots topic. I went there and I saw a comment from someone saying something about a flaw in someone's map. I just thought to myself, "Are you serious? You're really nitpicking over that little detail? The map looks great, and I bet you won't even notice that when you actually play the game if it is presented well."
And then there was one post about... how the smile on someone's custom picture was... "off". It was a nicely done piece of work, mind you. Blended well, showed a lot of effort, and is the kind of project that goes somewhere. And the "smile is off"? Are you serious? How about "That looks great, keep up the good work"? Because it does look great... I can't believe you actually paid that much attention to the "smile" on that picture.
You're telling them to correct that amazing piece of work... and at the same time giving me a speech about how "this is just a hobby".
And so that's where I came out with, "You can't even make a game as good as that..." and hence the post.
Yes, nostalgia shot through me alright... but it wasn't nostalgia "from the good old days". But rather from all the little "Hey, guess how good I am at pointing out all the little things wrong with your project" crowd. You KNOW what crowd I'm talking about.
And they were usually the ones who never really contributed much to the community. Let's face it, good game makers are good game makers, and bad ones are bad. The community would have thrived regardless without nitpicking (constructive criticism) like that... because the bad ones will inevitably play (and learn) from the good ones.
Did I go about this all wrong? Perhaps. Did I take stabs? Yup, I sure did.
You must be new to the community despite that 8000+ number on below your avatar. If you aren't new, you must have been secluded... because I already did. The fact that you don't know about them (whether you liked them or not) means you really don't have enough information to be talking.
As for why I am not doing anything in the new maker. I am. Posted screenshots. Here on your website.
The fact that you aren't aware of this tells me that you really pulled crap out of thin air hoping you would be right. Please be quiet.

Well, they're not here. Buried in some forum thread, I presume? If so, I guess it's our fault for not seeing that post out of the literal 310,000+ comments on this website.
Oh how dare we~?

Is it your fault? No, absolutely not. But you miss the point... that seems to be a common denominator here. Please take another stab at it.
You know I came here full of inspiration to start making games again. Thought it would be a nice place to start. What I witnessed in these forums... robbed me of all of that inspiration. And the fact that it is MILD compared to GW means nothing.
You are all right, what's happening here is exactly like GW. Someone (me) sees the pattern, makes a post about it, everyone comes in to say it is NOT happening.
As for the "crux" of my post... Cave Dog seems to be the only one with a keen enough sense that this is NOT a "you don't have any good games around here" post. That was a nail, but it wasn't the structure.
Well yes, most of the games here may not be creative, jaw-dropping, and engine-breaking, but you are really making it sound worse off than it is by naming like 5 games you think did this, while in fact there are others!
Case in point, Adon237. Thank you for reinforcing my previous post.
Tell me again how much better this place is than GW? And how much better the members respond.
And you know what? I just re-read my original post... it wasn't really THAT bad. The retaliation was worse I dare say lol.

instinct is the 80 year old going to the tokyo hotel concert and saying "what happened to music???"

It's not that bad after your edit, no.
Really, this thread is 74 posts too long.

EDIT yes, I cleaned it up. But the version that the first and second poster saw is the way it's been since then. Did you look at the time stamps?
That response that LockeZ posted was raw, and he was responding to the original one he saw... so did everyone else that came after that.
this place isn't good. it's def not better than gamingw. but, it's a different generation of people, dude. you either accept it or leave.
if you're trying to draw inspiration from this website, it's saying more about your creative abilities than anything. none of these people, or this website should directly affect your abilities to create.

Ah yes, there it is...
Let's read back on all of your posts, compared to my original post. Which ones are really more aggressive. Take note of the time stamps. My original post was edited before any other post was made.
