NOMIC (MAIN GAME TOPIC, NEW RULESET FOR EASIER PLAY)

Posts

It's easy. Long story short - immutable rule can become a mutable, which mutable rule can get an enactment, repeal or amendment or amendment of amendment, also become an immutable rule, which can be transmuted into... Ok, fuck this. :D
Hmm am I still in time to vote?

If so I'll vote aye.

Would you guys rather just not bother with this? :P I know Nomic isn't the kind of game tha appeals to everyone, so I don't mind if you don't actually get it or want to have to read a bunch of rules to be able to play.

Alternatively, would it help if I could dig up an old game online that you can look at to get more of a feel for how it works?
It would help a lot if the initial rules aren't that many tbh @_@
Nah, everything fine, let's move on.
Hit us with new rule!

The problem is, ivoryjones, that the fewer initial rules you have, the easier it is for people to totally game it from the beginning by doing ridiculous things that will be legal moves because there wasn't a rule that restricted them.

Edit: I found a minimalist ruleset which should be more palatable and have updated the initial post accordingly. We're restarting the game using these rules: as per rule 2 it's Adon237's turn.

As you can see, most of the interaction from you guys will now be via PM and I'll take responsibility for updating the topic. Hopefully this'll help get the ball rolling a bit.

Proposal for rule amendment to rule 3 as submitted by Adon:

"When it is a player's turn, that player may pass, by notifying the Scribe that he is doing so via PM. The Scribe shall record this passing in the main game topic, and play proceeds to the player after the next player in order."

Original rule:

"When it is a player's turn, that player may pass, by notifying the
Scribe that he is doing so via PM. The Scribe shall record this passing
in the main game topic, and play proceeds to the next player in
order (see Order of Play)."

You may now discuss and suggest changes until Adon says he wants to open voting.
Lemme see if I got this right... If I skip, I force the player after me to skip as well?
i'm sorry, i'm really confused now. are the rules we're voting on/proposing on changing the seven you just outlined in this simplified topic, or the 101-2XX in the original topic?
ok, less confused, voted on current proposal.

is it correct that the turn does not pass to the person after adon's until adon's vote is decided?

Uhh, I don't think this will answer your question, but

Adon237
CyberDagger
Fugue

is the turn order. If I were to pass my turn, Cyberdagger would be skipped and you, Fugue, will get to go next. Since I did not pass this turn, I proposed a rule, Cyberdagger will go next.
I'm voting against it. With this rule you can basically stop someone's progression for good, not giving him any chances to earn points or change anything. In price of doing it to yourself as well, but still. This rule asks for team-play and I wouldn't like it in this game.
Also, Trihan, please add rule about points in the ruleset.

Or if you don't want it to be changed make a note of some sort.
I vote yay. This game is all about finding ways to exploit the rules to you advantage in creative ways. This would be much more interesting if people found a way to work around this.

He rules you're changing/adding to are the new set. The minimalist set doesn't have anything about points or a win condition; if you want a way to win the game you'll have to add one. :P

Also, please don't vote until Adon confirms that his proposal is final. He may change it during discussion.
I vote nay as well. If you want to pass, don't involve the next person! Do it to everyone! (Of course, this has a huge relation to my rule in my turn hehehe...)

I honestly do not see a way to change the rule to meet your standards. Umm, correct me if I am wrong, but I do not think we are trying to make rules that benefit EVERYONE?

Huh, well I will give this an hour or so for more suggestions, then I will put it up for vote.
Dude give it a rest. Others are nay-ing too if you're not blind. 8)
Since we only have turns so far, a rule that manipulated those turns would be the most interesting thing we could do. There's ways to do turn manipulation rules even more broken than this one. For example, reversing the turn order any time anyone passes could even more easily lock a group of players out of the game. To be honest, I only see the possibility of these rules being abused in a kingmaker scenario, and there is no motivation for that to happen here. Still, I can see why you're cautious.

But yeah, a game needs a victory condition. It's a bit hard to come up with a victory condition for a blank slate, so I think it's better for us to just mess around for a bit before we introduce a victory condition.
