I don't know anything about mentoring, but we've got articles up the wazoo and a bunch of people (myself inluded) who will totally answer your questions about junk. The different Game Development boards are good places if you have a specific question about anything that goes into making a game - art, design, programming, staying motivated, etc.
If you haven't seen it yet, this little Introductory Article is a pretty darn good place to start!
