^ Again, because more women are in the community.

That's definitely a major contributing factor. I don't think that's all there is to it though. There are for example some sexualized female characters who are rather popular among women. It's not as simple as men likes sexualized female characters and women don't.

I wouldn't say there are too many people who think there's no problem... as much as there people who don't want their fan service to go away.

Those are usually one of the same. If you don't want the fan service to go away, it's very convenient for your conscience if you can convince yourself that the fan service is in fact not causing any problem.

And as a note, men aren't going to write perfect women. Ever.
Super Close? Yes. Getting those super special details? Lol, no.
And that's coming from a man who loves writing women.

What does "perfect woman" even mean? I do know that I have seen male characters written by women in a way that hadn't made think "hey, he's definitely written by a woman" so I assume there are also female characters written by men in a way that doesn't make women immediately aware of that fact. Most readers aren't "perfect" either, so you don't need a perfect understanding of the opposite gender.

Well, thats the interesting thing about women and the media. This post isnt specifically targetted at u or anything in particular, but did u know that thats actually not quite true?

I wrote "Focusing on gaming" so Rolling Stones isn't really relevant. What I wrote does seem to hold true for games, newer games seem to in average portray females better than older games. I don't just look on their outfits either, I also look at other details such as how frequently they turn in a damsel in distress (still often, but not as often as for ten years ago).

Admittedly, I only look at games that actually catches my interest. There may indeed be a raise of games that poorly portray women, only I overlook it because they belong to a genre that I don't care about.

This ^.

Every person's life experience is different and gender is only one among many millions of factors that make this so. Ethnicity, education, culture, sexual preference - the list goes on, and gets alarmingly specific. Thing is, we only 'know' things through the rose-tinted glasses of our own experience. I am a man, yes, but I also know that my experience and upbringing don't have all that much in common with my closest friends, much less a man from say Iran, China or Russia, where social standards are radically divergent from my own. I also didn't suffer from childhood leukemia, and I'm certainly not a serial killer. Will that stop me from writing about them if they are characters in my work? Hell no. Am I worried they won't be as 'great' than if they were written by a person that DID suffer childhood leukemia/is a serial killer? Noooope.

My point? Stop worrying about what aspects of your life make writing about something valid or 'the best they can be'. RPGmaker games are sadly lacking in memorable characters altogether, and believe me you a vast majority of the writing is not at a level where one can even begin worrying about this, of all things.

Even if you do buy into the whole 'FEMALES WRITE FEMALES'/'MALES WRITE MALES' better thing, most writing (both genders!) is shit to begin with so you probably won't even notice! EQUALITY!

Meh, that last statement of mine was stupid. I was trying to empower my point that the more of *insert group here* exists in media,
the better they are portrayed.

But as Magical_RuNE_Knight200 pointed out, if it's standard for women to always look sexy regardless of sexuality,
that poses a problem in a of itself.

I'm onto you.
This is another interesting study done, although it also covers the representation of race/minorties. : https://www.msu.edu/~pengwei/Mou%20Peng.pdf

This is rly an interesting debate. Although thinking about it more, technically we can gauge how women's portrayals has improved if we compare it to society in general-- or specifically the societies that make video games, since video games make up the media and both reflect on that societys values/ideas/culture.

Therefore, another way to rephrase this question could be has the portrayal of women improved in society/ the media?

In some ways, u could argue yes, but in other ways, no-- Meaning that it is very possible that women's portrayals have just simply not changed at all. Or, meaning that we are simply seeing two extremes-- one extreme of feminism, and another of violent/sexual objectification.
