LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Dudesoft what is the appropriate way of making RPG Maker 2003 and RPG Maker VX pixel nudity, do you add the pixel privates or do you not? It looks too censored and doll-like without them, but at 16-bit resolution they shouldn't technically be visible, and sprites are an even number of pixels wide so the important bits are always off-center. TIA
Dearest Dudesoft,

To pixel or not to pixel; that is the question. I quite like pixel art and I've had fun for about a week learning pixelating techniques and having a blast making pixel bricks and buildings. However, I wonder if anything that I make would be used by the community (which is very loving of the painted graphics that go with the RPG Maker VX Ace program; which are super lovely by the way).

In your opinion, do you think others would use pixel resources?

Sincerely,
In Love With Dithering (Aka Irili)

PS. How the hell many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop and why can't I find those damn things in the store anymore?

First of all, great question. I get this one a lot. You should look up Polymorphous Perversity by Calunio.
Warning, it is NOT SAFE FOR WORK and is in no way a reflection of RMN or the personal beliefs of Dudesoft the Great. Please view at own perverted caution!
It's amazing!

Second of all, there is no second of all. That game is a guided tutorial on genitalia.

So then, do you add the pixel privates or do you not?  It looks too censored and doll-like without them, but at 16-bit resolution they shouldn't technically be visible, and sprites are an even number of pixels wide so the important bits are always off-center.  TIA
Help me, O Wise Master!

Please, please. Compliments will get you everywhere! Let me start by saying, you don't need to be detailed. It's a pixel character and no one is going to rub one out to your sprite. You want to convey the idea of nudity. Maybe if you have a blue-haired anime girl, the carpet matches the drapes?
I would caution that nudity is a very risky business. You don't want to make your game cheap and pornographic, there should be some level of decency involved. Like, Tom Cruise doing a moonlit naked butt walk to the bathroom.
Alternatively, you can imply nudity with a classic censor bar.
If you still bothered and curious, look up Xenogears. There's a scene in-game where Elly is naked in bed. You can see a nipple, and implied pixel breasts, but that's all. It's decency on a fine line. Consider using different angles, or tricks to pull off nudity. Remember in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty when Raiden is nude? He cups his hands to hide the naughty bits. Can you do that?

Next caller is an old friend, Irili!
Hello Irili! What's troubling you?

Hey there, Dudesoft!
Is this thing on? Oh! Okay! Here we go!

However, I wonder if anything that I make would be used by the community (which is very loving of the painted graphics that go with the RPG Maker VX Ace program; which are super lovely by the way).

Let me stop you there, old chum. Don't bother yourself worrying if anyone will use your resources, or play your games, or read your comics you slave over, or buy your book you worked super hard on and ended up making nothing on due to low publicity on the publisher's front, or commenting on the gradual increase in cartooning ability after taking many courses to better oneself and/or dive into debt.
Don't worry if anyone is better than you, or if other artists are getting solid comicbook gigs while you run a help column on a rpgmaker website, or if you can never finish anything and want to hang yourself in the bathroom but the ceiling is too low.
What you need to do is do it for yourself. Enjoy this as a hobby, and regardless the outcome, you will have more fun creating whatever you set your heart to!
Besides, the old saying is right. "If you build it, they will come."

Uh, wow. That was a bit too personal, but whatever!
In your opinion, do you think others would use pixel resources?

Yes. The resource pool in RMVX especially is grim by comparison to the giant pile of rm2k stuff. You should totally get in on that action!

Hmm! One last thing, before I go!
How the hell many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop and why can't I find those damn things in the store anymore?

Like the answer to most things in life, it is 42. You probably can't find them because the universe is telling how bad they are for you! Eat an apple instead!

SaitenHazard, as I recall VX doesn't have innate support for weapon type restrictions on skills; do you have a script for that which you're currently using, or will you need me to provide the functionality for this as well as the skill filter?

I don't use VX but Ace, and Ace does have weapon type restrictions(I checked), so no filter required, thanks anyways.

Ah, that makes things considerably easier; I assumed you were using VX when you said "Need a custom battle system, because the default VX system is hideous." :P

Okay, leave that with me. Should just be a couple of lines needing changed, but I'm at work again so I don't have access to VXA for about 7 hours.

Okay, I know which line needs changed and what to, but which class it needs to be added to depends on the answer to one question: do you want the skills to disappear from the list only in battle, or from any skill list (including the one in the menu)?

Any skill list.

Excellent.

Make a copy of Window_SkillList (never edit the default scripts), paste it below Main, and change line 63 from:

item && item.stype_id == @stype_id

to

item && item.stype_id == @stype_id && @actor.skill_wtype_ok?(item)

That should remove any skill that doesn't meet weapon requirements.

*bows* I live to serve. Need anything else?
Well there is the list of things to be remove from menus:
*formation (may be even items) from over world menu
*attack, guard (and may be even items) from battle menu.
*and only 1 equipment slot instead of 5 (from all menus)

And if u could direct me to a preexisting simple battle script that would be nice too,

what I don't need in the scripts: attack, guard, and (maybe even items) in the menu

what I do need: sprites of player characters and monster attack animations.

Sounds like the Symphony battle system from the other topic might be what you're looking for: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/38072264/Symphony/Build/Battle%20Symphony%20v1.15.txt
Thanks again Trihan. The battle script is working great.

A little experimenting and I found out how to remove the menu commands I didn't want (just have to delete the @add"required command" line), but can't seem to find the command that adds the different equipment slots to the equipment menu, for example the slot for body, shield, weapon and etc.

I could use your help again, and thanks again.

EDIT: A non script problem.

The game I am trying to make will have only one type of equipment (as you must have guessed by now), different characters will gain different sets of skills from different equipment.

Now the problem is that these equipment are to be found through out the story and as there will be no items random enemies will have nothing to offer but exp when defeated, does that significantly decrease the reword system.

If the answer is yes then any suggestions on how the reword system can be better.
One more.
Skills in ace has 2 types, special and magic.
How can I change the name of one of the type to just "Skills" or add a new type.

You probably should, yeah. And you're welcome. :)
I am baack.

Is there anyway to change equipment mid battle (which by the way should cost a turn), a script maybe.
this isn't a place to ask random questions about the VXA database u.u you should make your own topic for that crap. your missing the point of this thread entirely.

to try and get back on track...

Dudesoft, I am a long time reader and first time writer. I'm trying to write dialogue for my new game but I'm not doing so great. When I read other's work or pay attention to what is being said in movies and such, it seems so easy to replicate. Yet I fail to make it as engaging. What advice would you give to such a writing noob such as myself?
