Well the debut trailer finally came out yesterday:

If you haven't heard already, our high-speed video game hedgehog is getting a WiiU/3DS exclusive game called Sonic Lost Worlds. From the looks of the trailer, it seems to bring the focus back to fast-paced platforming as recent sonic games have done.

My thoughts? I don't understand how Sega couldn't fit this on the first Wii, but this looks like a lot of fun!

What are your thoughts on Sonic's upcoming game? Sonic cycle is welcome, though I personally don't want to hear it.
This might be the final straw to get me to breakdown and purchase a 3DS. It looks like a lot of fun.

I seriously never lost any love for Sonic all these years. He's my #1 favourite videogame character. He has an actual personality that is fun, rebellious, heroic, and kick-ass. Even if the game is ultimately garbage (2007-cough-) Somic endures as the coolest hedgehog around.

Kentona's got the right idea. I'd break down and get a 3DS for this.

I really haven't, either. While I've still been critical of the most infamous additions to the franchise, Sonic remains as the game that got me into gaming to begin with, and after playing Sonic Colors I'm overjoyed that he's heading towards a good direction.

Somic and the Secret Rings was pretty awful, especially coming off their greatest game: Somic 2006. I was never a Somic kid until I bought 2006. Then I bought Unleashed, Generations, and Colors and I'll probably pick this up too! Sega's doing a better job selling the WiiU than Nintendo is between this and Sega All Star Racing Transformed.

I haven't played Sonic Colors yet, but the cutscenes on youtube were awesome. Reminded me of the old cartoon.

EDIT:
Sonic and Megaman team up comic from Archie Comics
WTF is this. Look at this art! I am upset. There is no way around it, I have to get a job at Archie and show them how to do it. Ugh. Look at Megaman. So terrible.
This looks pretty sweet! And I already have a 3DS. :D

This might be the first Sonic game I buy in a long while.

Seems about as cheesy as every other Archie comic. xD

I also like how they use taken names for the Roboticised masters, too. "Shadow Man" is an actual robot master, and "Vectorman" is a character of his own game.

The art style is disappointing, too.
The trailer looks OK, but I'm going to stay extremely cautious about this one until it releases and wait for player reviews. I loved the old school Sonic games, but the modern games have been hit and miss (mediocre hits, dreadful misses).

Also, I don't like the music in that video. It sucks, lol.
Too soon to say. Sonic has already tried retro-revivals , but they are pretty bad at that. Sonic 4: Episode 1 was a miss, and so Sonic Generations was pretty generic.

I hope they can make their next Sonic 3 and Knukles and Sonic Adventure 1 and 2.
I don't care if you don't want to hear it, here's your damn Sonic Cycle anyway.

No forum thread about a new Sonic game is complete without it, even if I don't think it's relevant anymore, considering Colors and Generations.

Now that that's dealt with...

I was already going to get a 3DS for Pokémon X/Y, but this just makes me get a 3DS even harder.

Ditto. The old toy shop I frequented as a little kid had Sonic 2 on display, and I spent a lot of time just standing there looking at the demo. The first Sonic game I actually owned was Sonic Advance (heresy, I know), but whenever I was at the home of someone with a Sega console, I would insist on playing any Sonic game they might've had.

Sonic is just fun. Say what you want, but roller coasters in game form with all that vibrant eye candy are just the perfect way to relax after a long and tiring day. No need for super complex game mechanics, no need for super deep characters, I just need to have pure fun.

I'll admit that Sonic had a bit of a bad time, but starting with Unleashed then Colors and Generations, the Blue Blur seems to be getting back on track. This seems to be continuing that, though with just this trailer it's too early to tell. Also, flickies and the other small animals, long time no see!

No. No. Just no. I have a high tolerance for the screwups of the games from the so-called Dark Age of Sonic. However, that game is utter garbage. A game where you can stuck snowboarding downhill by turning in a certain way, a boss can lock you into into an endless loop of getting hit without being able to move and not dying, a jump will kill you unless you enter the ramp at the perfect angle, gives you a pushing block puzzle without giving you the tools to push them with precision, among other things, is not a good game, much less the greatest. That game was one of the most frustrating gaming experiences I have ever had the misfortune of experiencing. That's what pushing your game for a Christmas release even though it's incomplete gets you...

Case in point:

Still better than what I can do... Though, I guess I can see what you mean. Megaman's mouth seems odd in some panels.

And it's so obvious Archie started the Megaman comic already with that crossover in mind. I have always said Sonic/Classic Megaman is the perfect crossover, and now it's become a reality.

Going back to the game now, It seems that the usual formula of Dr. Eggman unleashing some evil he should not be unleashing and then the evil turning on him and kicking his ass is back. Except this time, it happens right at the beginning and Sonic and Eggman team up for the rest of the game. Interesting.

Also, Sega and Nintendo made a deal. The next three Sonic games (this one being the first) will be Nintendo exclusives, and Nintendo becomes the publisher of those Sonic games in Europe. You know, I kinda could see Sonic actually becoming a Nintendo exclusive in the future. A bit ironic considering the 90s console wars, but Nintendo and Sega are so buddy-buddy with each other now, what with all these Olympics games and Brawl, that I would not be surprised at all.

It's about time Sonic joined us in the Super Mario Galaxy generation, and it only took them 6 years to catch on... oh wait.

Innovation sure isn't rolling around at the speed of sound with these guys.

Well, at least they're trying much harder than they did a few years back...kinda.

It seems to me that they picked up some of the old Sonic Xtreme stuff and decided to put some of that on a game that'll actually get released.

The problem is that they could have done this years ago, but only decided to jump on the bandwagon after the success of SMG. The gameplay of Xtreme is very much like another of their titles, Bug!, which would go to show that they've been sitting on their hands creating the same old until said same old fails commercially and then cashing in on other old sketchwork since at least 1995.

Then again, the same could be said of much of the commercial video game market during the late 90s until today, as we've discovered what works and are now scared shitless to try anything else as it may result in substantial revenue loss. So now we're stuck with little to get excited about except ANOTHER Halo and reskinned NES games.

That's right, folks. You've played Duck Tales; now test your mettle against the all-new Duck Tales FUCKING REMASTERED!
Now with 100% more graphics (Open wallet now).
Scrooge McDuck is officially rolling in his grave, may he rest in peace.

It's a sad, sad world we live in, where even our escape from the hells of the outside world becomes hell unto itself.

EDIT: Woopsydoodle, guess that settles that. All hail, Super Sonic Galaxy.

Aha, get it? I crack myself up.
I voted Pizza, because I'm hungry. But in all honesty, it is probably the first game next to Mario I'll be buying for the Wii-U. So I think it's better than nothing, cause I have no interest in monster hunter, and the rest of the games are mostly ports. So, yeah, I'll take my chances with this game.

I liked Sonic Generations and Colors, so I am beginning to think they're starting to improve from all their failures.

@Cyberdagger: Bleh. The problem was NEVER Sonic's friends. The Mario series, in addition to other franchises like Rayman and even Pokemon has an extensive cast of characters and NOBODY COMPLAINS ABOUT THEM.

The REAL problem with Sonic's friends is that they got shit gameplay to go with them. In games, people judge characters more by how they interact with the gameplay than how they interact with the game's story. For instance, Navi from LoZ: Orcarina of Time is fine in the context of the game's story. She's a guardian fairy that sticks with Link to help him on his quest. What makes everyone hate her, though, is how IN GAME she would spam the same, unsolicited messages and if you don't want to listen to them, she'll keep yelling "Hey! Hey! Hey!" forcing you to succumb to her lectures for the sake of keeping your sanity. Had her tutorial mechanic been perfected, however, I doubt she would be as infamous as she is today.

In Sonic's case, crap storm began with Sonic Adventure as every other character besides Sonic (Tails is maybe an exception) were given completely different game mechanics that made the whole thing look like a hodge-podge of unrefined ideas.

Tails was the closest sub-game to Sonic's, but it was short and had too many fillers; you weren't given enough time to like him.

Knuckles was a treasure hunt that is very akin to the red coin hunts in Super Mario 64; nobody liked them, and here it just slowed down a fast-paced game. Worse is how he does the same thing in SA2, but now in HUGE levels with a BS radar system and crappy rap music to go along with it. I've always loved Knuckles since his debut in Sonic 3, and the Adventure games have given him a bad name imo.

Amy was atrocious; I do NOT want to go slow in a FAST-paced action platformer. Even if she moved just a little bit faster to keep her within the bounds of Sonic game design it would have been fine, but I think she moves even slower than Mario here.

Big the Cat was worse. FISHING in a SONIC GAME. I don't need to say more, do I? He was one of those characters you would wonder why he even exists as a result.

Gamma was somewhat fun, but if I wanted to play a 3rd-person shooter I'd look for other titles, not Sonic the Hedgehog. Considering his gameplay wasn't as bad as the rest I have to say I actually like the guy.

Meanwhile, Blaze the Cat, a recent addition to Sonic's character lineup, is universally liked. Why is this? Because in Sonic Rush, she didn't offer a ridiculous change in gameplay like Big and Amy did in Sonic Adventure. She ran fast, traversed through loop-de-loops, and overall played like she belonged in a Sonic game. Even in Sonic '06, as terrible as that game was all around, she probably had the best gameplay out of all "sidekick" characters in that game, because she could actually GO FAST!

The point I'm getting across here is that the addition of new characters was never really a problem as some of the whiny "fans" make it out to be, so much as these characters were shoved in without fitting into Sonic's core design, or even if they did they were unrefined in one way or another. Sonic is about going fast and navigating through platforms, and if every other playable character followed this, akin to Sonic 3 & Knuckles, I don't think the addition of new characters would have ever been an issue.

I'm confused by people's dislike of the other characters. Even in the cartoons it's the same. The point of different speed and gameplay is to highlight Sonic's special power. If everyone ran fast, it'd be boring and people would just ask, "Why not just be all Sonic?"
It'd be like if all the Justice League members were just The Flash.

Edit: In Sonic Adventure, Sonic Team was just embellishing on what people loved about Sonic 3. Tails could hover, and was not as fast as Sonic. Knuckles could glide, and climb. His gameplay was slow and explorative.
Sonic just raced through levels at the speed of sound.
All Adventure did was give Knuckles a reason to explore, added a robot, and a fishing game. You ask, "Why fishing in Sonic!?" think about it. This is japan we're talking about.
This is, in my words, super sonic galaxy 2 (colors being first)
Not only am I getting the 3DS version because it's in actual 3D *cough*Generations*cough* but I'll be getting the console version once I get Wii U. Hopefully this will be amazing.
