MY GAME IDEA IM WORKING ON , ANY ADVICE
Posts
Dragon Knights The Rise of a hero Has been an idea of mine Iv want to create back in the early 90's lets not get it confused with dragon Knight. using rpg maker vx ace. I have my own ideas and so forth on how I want the game to go Id like to slip in some of my favorite aspects I grew up playing in rpg's like having other people join you like in the Suikoden series over 102 stars in the game some may live some may die ,ending up having castle with all your allies in it, like inns, blacksmith ect.. each could be full of mini games if you the player so choose along with side quest.
Why the title ? I like Dragons, I enjoy reading about knights, I have good memories of dragon form from B.O.F series Grew up playing dragon warrior and lastly two characters in Suikoden series rode on dragons.
I have the map laid our working on filling in towns towers ect.
I have completed the main title screen with theme music
Looking to create the screen giving people the choice to change the hero's name before the intro starts.
Started working on the intro how ever its not coming along how I would like it to lol.
The Prologue
500 years ago a legendary King formed a pack with a mighty dragon after great evil tore across the lands. the war came to it's end after a great battle the legendary King rode his Dragon into the finale battle facing the evil ones army
The king was also joined by a Great Wizard and the kings son the prince who was a ranger. during the final battle as the evil leader was slain using his last breath to place a evil spell on the legendary King, Dragon , wizard and the ranger turning them into stone! after this great battle the heir to the throne had the statues placed in the center of the town over looking the castle.
legend Has it these warriors will awake again when the kingdom of andorra is in it's darkest hour ! The legend also say only someone from this blood line can reverse the spell.
Now present day you the player have just arrived back to your village disappointed being denied entry into the ranks of becoming a dragon knight, the Kings High guard. you the hero come from a very poor family. you work in the local pub the player takes control having to run a few errands for the pub owner.
when you return with food that turned out to be rotten the pub owner blames you and fires you from this nightmare of a job. the character then takes a auto route to his house awakes in bed to hear the royal trumpet. the hero jumps from bed says some lines im still working on what everyone says. the character runs out the front door the princess has returned. as the charter attempts to get a peek at the princess the guards shove the character to the ground.
moments later it starts to get dark this massive thunder storm rolls in.
the monsters arrive attacking the guards the towns people are running and screaming in fear only one guard still stands protecting the princess , its the dragon commander the hero character runs over to help the commander , the leader of this attack on the village is way stronger then both of the hero and the commander both are will loss this battle.
after the battle the commander is wounded but alive the blast from the evil leader blows the character into the legendary statue. the character starts to glow a surge of energy shoots into the evil commander that almost about kills him forcing him to retreat. the character that is the hero falls over and the glow is gone he awakes the next day in the castle
this is going to be a big project for me an I still have no idea how to use this thing, I watched a few videos have the hero walking out the front door of the house that's about all iv been able to do

Well... First things first: You can take a screenshot by pressing the "PrtSc" on the top right of your keyboard. Then, open Paint and paste it in.
The story isn't anything new, but that doesn't mean it's bad, either. :-?

well im working on the princess scene part of the game right now and about to yank my hair out. not a lot is working right for me tonight starting to think might be best to pay for some help. I also want to buy High Fantasy Mega Bundle have to wait till the first of the month
honestly, sounds very generic. It's not necessarily a bad thing, it's a matter of execution really. What is the role of these ancient king, wizard, ranger and dragon? If you don't mind giving spoilers :) just wondering where the story is going...
also RPG Maker scene already got suikoden clones, Legion Saga comes to mind, so i'd recommend coming up with a twist of your own to suikoden formula.
in any case, keep at it!

did not want to give to meny spoilers ill go back an edit this as need be im thinking off the brain this tale has been locked away in my head since the 90's
they are the hero's of the past who saved the kingdom, the roles of the ancient king, wizard, ranger and dragon explains a lot about the opening story how this poor miss used young man who is not allowed to live his dream to become a dragon knight, after the opening battle that I talked about where the main character not the hero yet helps the dragon commander. the evil leader is here to destroy the statues so the curse can never be broken as I stated the fight does not go all that well the evil leader fires what could be a death blow to the young hero sending him in to the statues of the ancient king, wizard, ranger and dragon.
of course the event I stated happens the evil leader is forced to retreat. for helping save the princess and suffering major wounds he was taken to the castle, while the hero is still knocked out the kings mage is tearing his study apart looking for the book that was first quoted stating the legend of the ancient ones and their return. most dismiss it as the ancient ones returned in spirit to save them once more. how ever the mage thinks that this young hero might be the member of the ancient kings blood line as it stats in the legend.
the young hero for his acts helping to save the princess the hero joins the ranks of the dragon knights. the evil leader is from the same bloodline of the one who turned ancient hero's into stone as he died . as the armys of evil strike the land while on quests the main castle where the story starts off in is covered in some kind of spell it can not be entered so the young hero sets off to save his home land and unlock things from the ancient past. along the way meeting other groups of people like in suikoden.
as the game goes on more an more thing start to happen to the hero that make people wonder what if this is the boy from the legend. once your able to finish the quest to get that field of magic down around the castle the final epic battle take form.
using your collected allies in the final attack attempting to stop the evil leader from killing the royal family and destroying the statues of the ancients during the course of the game the hero has been having dreams an visions turns out his father is really not his father but a guardian sent to keep him and his bloodline past safe until he was needed.
as more and more troops flood in the army's hoping to save their lands seem to be losing the fight the young hero takes on Dragon form to defeat the final boss. when the deathblow is delt depending on what choices were made in game the hero dies saving the kingdoms or the statues of the ancient king return back to flesh and blood.
To thank the young hero for ending the spell, the kings lets it be known that the young hero is from his bloodline, the ancient wizard for seen the future event an of this young hero it was wrote in his writing that this boy would need a guardian, the dragon lets it be known that part of the pack made with the king was that this future hero would have the ability to take dragon form and only if his heart was pure and could stop the spell he would not die, well you get the idea I have some gaps an other stuff im adding but you get the idea
Your game sounds very generic. As 0range00 said, it's not necessarily a bad thing, but it still means that you have described nothing interesting. You could put interesting spins to it, but what those spins would be or if they even exist. we don't know. As such, there aren't any advices for this project specifically that I can think of.
Of course, I can always give you generic advice such as use good writing, make the battles fun and make the maps look good.

My advice is don't make this for your first game. Your first game will suck, big time. By the time you fumble through this game enough to learn the engine, you will have a large chunk of the game done but it will be all sloppy and need major fixing. You will then have to make a choice; fix it, scrap it, or start over from scratch. Just about everyone else already had this problem, even the best makers.
Although, considering the comments on it's genericality(I didn't read it all) maybe you should make this your first game, but don't try and make it epic. This kind of game idea apparently belongs where you found it, in the 90's. It could be a good idea for a small starter game, but it won't be very good. If you try to make a first game as an epic, it will fall apart.
If you really care about this idea, don't waste it now. Use it when you're better at the program.

Okay... It still sounds very typical cliche plot... But don't worry about that, it's fine for your first project. Besides it's most likely gonna change a little during development.
what kind of gameplay elements did you have in mind? Magic and skill systems are in very important position when it comes to j-RPGs. Is the gameplay gonna have something to do with this dragon form? Maybe you could have a skill system where your numerous playable characters could teach their individual skills and magic to other characters? This way the player could have some control on how to develop their characters.

I hit prtsc it did not work
Minor correction: it's Control+PrintScreen to image-capture. Everything else Mr_Detective said is correct.
Something you might want to do is use proper capitalization! Also, I think you might want to cut the description down to what is interesting about the game. If the story isn't the draw of the game, keep that part of the description simple, and talk more about what the draw of the game is.
*Edit: Man, I'm totally thinking in the context of this thread, aren't I?
Well yes the story generic about a hero yes there will be spins and twists in the story. the story is evolving as things go as im writing it out on paper.

My advice - dig around for some faux-16 bit tilesets/charsets that can be found for free around the place, rather than paying for the High Fantasy Bundle (which I think looks godawful, or am I supposed to be unquestioningly loyal to RPGM products?), or atleast leave the extra purchases until you know what you're doing.
Find the boundaries and conventions of the perceived stereotype of the genre, and put a new spin on it, - it will amuse, and surprise.

Iv played a handful of made games from this site that have good ratings that have the generic story things ect does not bother me if a plot is a bit generic as long as the story telling is good bring a over all good story. Id take a rpg that had a generic plot but had a over all great story then a game with a great looking over all plot and the over all story sucked that's just me.
what I posted as I said was a generic outline of what im doing if I said hear and wrote everything out world for word we would be here a long while. ill chip away at this if it never gets out o well its been laying around in my brain since the 90's im choosing not to start off with something tiny I want a challenge. If my game gets created fine if I can never get it to work right that's fine to. my goal is to get my story out there

Im still debating if the hero can take dragon form during parts of the game, each time secrets are unlocked he can take the form of a stronger dragon. as far as skill go some characters can to a dual attack to unleash a special attack. I like your idea on playable characters teaching some of their individual skills and magic to other characters. That would be a great Idea just not sure of the script would have to be coded, Coding is not my thing. Still working out the whole system

id also like to set up some kind of mini game where the characters your not using in your party at the moment, well at your castle you could take control or let the cpu use other characters venture out to gathering Resources to help your allies, shop keepers ect creating more epic weapons ect...
Id also like to set up options to where you can spend gold upgrading your what would once its unlocked would start off as a small camp upgrading it to a full blown castle, as your town grows more people would arrive, some workers, some adventurers, some good some evil. Id like to set up a random event system changing to day and night rain or sun shine. you as the leader of your town get to make choices of to have a great feast, maybe a ball or watch the theater some fun events this whole city thing is optional. adding some side quest that the city is attacked you have to defend it.
maybe even some option of building a army. once the game ends you could have options based on what happened in the game, and the mini games to pick the future path of the hero with options like he retires stays to run the city, takes up new adventures ect.. kind of like choose your own ending. if you get the good ending in the game you would have positive options if you had the bad ending you would get negative future options

hey that dual attack sounds like a great idea! That makes the player test different combinations of characters in party. Just make sure to put some thought and effort into it. I hate it when some other games use similar system but only give you like one special attack only.
stronger forms of that dragon transformation sound cool too and i like the idea of your castle building.
best thing you can do now is to just start making this game!

A few minor points with the text in these images.
An ellipsis is three periods. Any more than that is considered excessive. Also, note the period at the end of the sentence to delineate a complete thought.
The word "well" is neither a proper noun, nor is the beginning of a sentence. It should be lower-case. As for the screenshots themselves, you might get better feedback if you post them on this thread.
The royal... the princess is back.
