BREATH OF FIRE 6 ANNOUNCED, BUT...WHAT THE FUCK?

Also, this guy makes a case. Dunno that I buy it but it's a case.

I don't think you can test the waters that way. The sales figures you get from a game that's called Breath of Fire, but isn't really Breath of Fire, isn't very useful to gouging the sales for a hypothetical title that actually is what the fans want. Solitayre's explanation makes more sense.

If they really want to test the waters, they can treat it as a niche game and give it a low budget. The thing with niche games is that they sell much less than mainstream games, but they are also way cheaper to make.
And much more beloved. (refer to current avatar)
Like the BOF5 didn't killed the series we've got another pile of crap. Capcom seriously what the fuck? I've been waiting a new BOF title that exactly just like the first 4 game, making this kind of stuff not that hard for experienced workers of Capcom JP, right?

Capcom always tries to change the root of their franchises, they always fail so hard, when they learn to not do it? Mega Man, Resident Evil and now Breath of Fire? This is so unacceptable...

What the hell is happening to developers these days? Why they never listen their fans? Imagine HL3 will be a "puzzle" game, HL fans probably kill Gaben for that. This is exactly the same thing. Geez, I'm really pissed off.
Lol, imagine RE7 like this: Performing lightning kicks and Hadoken, morphing into a dragon, being able to use both Oni and Devil Force powers, being able to charge up and fire mega blasters while playing as Arthur having to fight against hordes of Phoenix Wright zombies! All while doing the (laughably) stupid thumbs up animation~ :p
"RE7: Capcom's Dream Land", zombies are yelling "objection" when attacking ;____; Hell I can actually play that, because I know they were not serious when making that game.
That just throws the thought in my mind: maybe they got the franchises mixed up.
"Oh, which one was Breath of Fire again?"
"The one with the running and jumping. And blue."
"Oh, right, for the mobile."
"Mhmmm"
"And Megaman was...?"
"The RPG, right? With the fighting and bosses and stuff."
"Oh yeah!"

>.<;
I actually wouldn't be surprised.
Breath of fire gameplay: running, jumping, breathing fire in place of firing the x buster, and he now absorbs dragon powers from beating bosses. I guess nina can be the swordsman in place of zero. Slashing through enemies with her all mighty wand..who needs magic in a megaman platformer am I right?

Megaman gameplay would basically turn into a megaman x command mission style game. We'd probably only see megaman, zero, and axel as playable characters though.

Feel free to help me come up with theories on how this could turn out since they probably did mix up the two games.

Keep in mind that not everyone sticks around for years in one company in the industry. Layoffs or new opportunities happen, depending on your position, so games aren't likely to be developed by EXACTLY the same people.

That being said, however, they way Capcom is approaching the mobile/iOS market is nothing short of disgraceful.

It kind of fills me with a combined sort of grief and personal delight that probably 90% of the games being made here could probably wipe the floor with anything that Crapcom manages to put out on the mobile / handheld market as of late.

(BTW, Ratty524, you gotta port that "TOTS" shit on the mutherf**kin' phone, dawg, and show Crapcom who the BOSS!)

I heard someone on Newgrounds recreated the exact gameplay of Megaman XOver through flash. Yeah, that's kind of sad. :|
Then again, someoneGodot created pseudo 3D gravity gameplay in 2k3 this one time, so... some people can do amazing things with limited software.

That aside, please don't let me start on Breath of Fire DQ. I... just cannot...
Capcom is just bad. And they hate RPGs too.

I heard DQ wasn't that bad from an objective game standpoint. I can get the fact that it's an untraditional BoF, but if it's still fun that's better than nothing, i.e., better than what's happening now.
Well, to be fair, we've yet to play the new one. It might indeed be fun... it probably just won't be Breath of Fire in the classic sense.

As for DQ... It's not bad, but it should never have been a Breath of Fire. It should have been its own game instead. The mechanics didn't work for the series and it show-horned the story and characters in so that it would seem like the series. Fans who were waiting on a new BoF were horribly surprised when they picked up the new title and felt quite betrayed by their expectations - that things no longer worked as expected (oh hey, here have some dragons and evil religions and classic RPG with lovable characters!), that the setting had changed so drastically and so forth.
Not to mention that those new to the series had come to expect something very different in the older games than what they were led to believe the series was about by the newest instalment.

Let's just say it's a decent game with interesting mechanics and story that should never have been labelled a Breath of Fire.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Eh, at this point, mobile phones are a legit game platform. This is no different from Dragon Quest 9 being for the Nintendo DS, in my opinion.

You complained in the OP that game developers take an "all or nothing" approach to these games instead of making a lower budget game, and then in the same breath complain that BoF decided to make their new game on a lower budget system? WTF?

The only BoF game I liked was BoF5, but there aren't a lot of good cell phone RPGs by big companies that actually have experience making real games, so I'll be looking forward to this. Should be a nice change from garbage like Battleloot Adventures and Heroes' Call.

In principle, you would be right. However in reality, the problems are these

-Mobile games are not a legit game platform. Not yet. Can they be at some point? Sure. As of right now I do not think they have the capability to meet or exceed the quality of the previous games. A mobile social game? Fuck no. Could I be wrong? Sure.

-The precedent currently set for Capcom making mobile games is terrible. They've all sucked in the past. Could this one be the exception? Sure.

-Nobody asked for this???
Fans who were waiting on a new BoF were horribly surprised when they picked up the new title and felt quite betrayed by their expectations

Fans and their expectations are one of the greatest evils to befall the videogame industry. I think their kneejerk reactions when the series they love try to branch out in new directions instead of churning out more of the same are at least partially to blame for the current climate in which developers and publishers are totally averse to innovation or risk taking of any kind. Which of course fans will be quick to complain about.

If Megaman Legends, Street Fighter III, Dragon Quarter (which is a fucking masterpiece, by the way) or even the new DMC game which by all accounts is pretty great had gotten the love they deserved, perhaps we wouldn't have to deal with bullshit like this. Should these games have been their own thing instead of borrowing the name of everyone's beloved stagnated sagas? Maybe. But don't forget that many franchises have achieved excellence by undergoing often radical shifts in mechanics or tone. Don't advocate change and experimentation when it suits you and dismiss them as soon as they mess with your nostalgia.

All that said I still think Capcom is in pretty deplorable shape nowadays and this BOF6 thing holds very little promise.

What makes you say mobile games are not a legit game platform? I think they are as legit by now as PC.

Lol, I showed my dad the other day about BOF6 being announced and, considering he's also played most of the BOF games with me and, like me -- he haaaaaatttttteeeeeed "Dragon Quarter" -- even he just said flat out, "WTF ISSSSS THIS SHIT!?!?!?"

Old people know, man.

He can already smell the impending stinkfest from many years away.
