BREATH OF FIRE 6 ANNOUNCED, BUT...WHAT THE FUCK?

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Embrace change!

Having a touchscreen control interface and charging you per episode instead of up front isn't going to ruin the game.

(If anything's going to ruin the game, it's that no one who had any part in BoF4 and earlier still works at the company.)

It's not about the mobile phone and its interface, it's about the development context and the audience. The same ideas in regular development do not apply to mobile development. The game will be designed not to be fun but to make money. There is a difference you know, and a reason why people do not like the F2P MMOs. Because there are mechanics specifically put in to make you want to buy stuff for your character or measly grind tapping the screen for 30 mins.

This is no different from Dragon Quest 9 being for the Nintendo DS, in my opinion.

Tell me Xover is the same as say... Megaman ZX. Because it fucking isn't.

Every game is designed to both be fun and make money. Pay-up-front games make money by somehow getting you to buy the game without knowing anything about it yet, while F2P games make money by forcing you to pay to get back to the fun parts.

They didn't say it would be F2P though, just that it would be mobile!

That mega man game looks like shit, but I can post videos of shitty console games too. There are certainly a lot of them. I mean, I paid sixty fucking dollars for shitty console games like FF13-2, Metroid: Other M, Unlimited Saga, and several horrible Sonic games, which effectively used the same trick as the worst F2P games: hook the player with a good game first, and then make you pay to keep playing, but everything after you pay is shit. They just used a sequel, instead of a pay wall within the game, to accomplish the same thing. (Actually, a lot of console games that aren't sequels still basically do this; they just use advertising in place of the pre-paywall part of the game. That's even less honest! Show me videos of one thing and then I pay and get another.)

Also, as perhaps a stronger point, there have been some really really good cell phone games made by companies that usually make console games. I don't follow a lot of other companies but Square Enix makes a lot of really good mobile games. Not everything they make is gold, but a lot of it is actually really solid.

They didn't even bring FF7: Before Crisis to English because bitches like you made them think we wouldn't play any cell phone games no matter what, so yeah, I'm mad.
I'm not as mad about BoF being on a mobile, as I am about it not being what we've become accustomed to in the series. For instance, a certain lack of Ryu and Nina is my biggest complaint about it, at least right now(dlc...), as even DQ (which I actually liked, though not as much as the others) had those two in the lead roles, albeit reversed.

Maybe it'll be good, maybe it won't, only time'll tell. (I agree with Lockez in that there quite a few decent ones amongst the dung-heap, but again I'm neutral on this atm, on account of Crapcom's supposed problem with making a decent Megaman game in the last few years..)
I'm not even going to bother with this one. I'll just keep pretending that BoF is dead and be happy with it.

*Goes to play BoF3*
The more I see where gaming has gone, the more I'm glad to have been part of the old school. Thank God for emulators. When my kids get old enough to play games, I'm going to introduce them to the gemstones of 8 bit Mario and Megaman. I'm going to plan gaming nights in front of the computer with a big screen monitor, and we'll take turns with SMB like my family did when I was growing up with the Atari and NES. And then I'll introduce them to Crystalis, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Metal Gear, Zelda and Zelda II, and I only hope I'm there to see their faces of wow and wonder as the stories unfold, as they finally figure out the challenges, and complete the game.

Same with cartoons. They'll see real quality with the likes of Rescue Rangers and Darkwing Duck before they get caught up in the crap that plays today.

If us oldies want some of what we used to have back, it starts with us. Pass it on to our children, and hope that they will carry the torch that will one day fix this broken mess of Dora's and Barney's and....

Oh shit, I'm rambling on now.
@Lockez

You only enjoy the F2P game if you pay in the thousands (I hope so for the whale's sake). A very low populace of F2P games are the ones who actually make the game money. It's fundamentally different when you consider console game's mechanics are untouched by how much money you can spend rather than a flat fixed price that's equal to other games. When you go into how these f2p games actually work there's something that makes common people throw up inside.

As for the mobile game platform on its own, they generally rely on games that are quick to play and appeal to a mass audience. There's no risk involved and it generally shows that we're not going to get a content filled experience. The problem is that you're really making a game for a different audience when you go for mobile. The inputs are cut smaller, the gameplay is cut up into short bursts, and generally everything is minimized to a shitty level. I suppose it's a preference for those ON THE GO PEOPLE but not for the BoF fanbase who sit at home to play a long RPG. I wish games like Elite Beat Agents were on mobile devices though.

I'm going by Capcom's mobile game release history. They made a shitty f2p mobile game for the asian market and now they're making 11 games for the asian mobile market. There's something not bright about BoF's future if it's part of such a quantity.

I heard from someone else that it's apparently not going to be just for mobile phones.

It's also going to be available... for "browsers"

That might be even worse than phones. It makes me picture Breath of Fire 6, hosted by Kongregate.

Before Crisis ain't even good, yo. Have you ever actually seen it? Decent concept, shitty execution. Final Fantasy XIII-2 actually wasn't too bad.
I personally dislike mobiles as a gaming device. The controls/gameplay are so bad that I'd rather just go buy something actually meant for mobile gaming such as a 3ds.

Never played ffxll-2 personally, because I couldn't stand the original. It was crazy linear, and autopilot battles. I figured it wouldn't make sense without more knowledge of the original as well.

I do wish they'd stop changing some of my favorite turn based games into real time games. While I hold no grudge against real time games, I don't want to see turn based games die off either. Each of them has their own strengths and weaknesses.
I echo the dislike of mobile phones. Of course, tablets on the other hand are a different matter. The screen is large enough, and if companies could see the value of a tablet (easier to port than a laptop), then it could possibly go somewhere someday.

Tablets are primarily touch screen right now, but I don't see why they can't be designed to include a port for a joystick / game pad for games that aren't easily converted to touch screen. It would still be easier to port that around than it would a laptop.

Oh. My. Sweet. Merciful. God.
AlphaOmegaSin = My feelings on this, like perfectly~ (One of my fav internet icons btw, along with AngryJoe, AVGN, and Pewds~ xD)

And by the power of Satan, get that "Megaman" game away from the eyes of the children! Dx
I think you should get a platinum trophy if you can simply make it through the video by itself...I personally closed it at 4 mins. Now we need to make a game: megaman and breath of fire unite...against the most vile enemy yet! They will go through a massive adventure containing elements of both games, to fight the evil tyranny that is capcom. The parties do not fight together as the megaman team fights them on the internet, while the breath of fire crew opposes them in the real world.

Does your party have what it takes to take down the vile tyranny of capcom?

That's a bit poorly written I'll admit (I sort of rushed it) but I think even that is a better game than any of capcoms recent ones (and that is quite sad)
Ah, and let's not forget the unholy evil that is having to pay for a "true" ending...like, what? Lol, imagine BoF6 like this: You reach the max level, and to experience the "final" dungeon, you have to pay $10 just to go in it, and then another $5 to fight the "true" final boss~ >,> If I had to actually pay just to fight Myria in BoF3, or even unlock the mother friggin' Desert of Death...AGH! (Although, it's an mmo so there wouldn't really be a "final" sort of dungeon I guess~) :3
Any updates on this...they scrap it for a real game yet?
Phew, good thing I didn't really enjoy the franchise a whole lot anymore (since 2 which was awesome and 3 which got the job done), and despite wishing for a revival not expecting it.

No need to get upset over my prepaid mobile unable to run this ^^
That and only that is my pov.

Gameboy was fine since Tvs weren't that huge either, maybe not having your own tv, regular 3 hour drives in the backseat, unoccupied lessons at school, 20 minute walks even for short distances - now all I could possibly think of is break at work (which I wouldn't wanna spent playing) xD

I guess it can still be good for other people, but I doubt projects like these reach high quality levels :)
New Breath of Fire VI information, guys. Maybe we judged it a liiiiiittle too quickly. Maybe not. Proof will be in the pudding, but the information is, imo, pretty interesting. Firstly, though, screenshots!

And now, information:
New screenshots from Famitsu of Breath of Fire 6.

I read the article and here’s a rough translation of some of the new information (Apologies in advance for translation errors so please let me know if anything sounds wrong. Also sorry if the side comments are annoying, I’m trying to compare in my head the relation between this game and the older games haha):

- The full title is “Breath of Fire 6: The Protectors of the White Dragon”.

-From looking at the story, this is the same world as the older Breath of Fire games (I can’t quite remember but I think the timeline was 1->2(500 years later?)->3(thousands of years later?)->4 (alternate world Deis and Ryu were summoned at some point?). Anyways, it starts off describing this game as taking place over a thousand years after the battle with the young man who had the “Power of the Dragon”. The people have overcome the dangers of the desertification (possibly referring to BOF3 since the defeat of Myria resumed the desertification) and were living in peaceful times until the powerful military empire of “Schwarz” appears and conquers other towns.

-In a small amount of time the Schwarz Empire conquered the majority of the continent from using the power of ancient weapons. They managed to do this with the power of the “Black Dragon”.

-Dragnier village passed down the traditions of the Dragon. Schwarz destroys this village most likely at the start of this game.

-Vice Kingdom is a kingdom that was close to Dragnier. This kingdom still had the traditions of the Dragon and are fighting against Schwarz to aim to be the supreme kingdom of the continent.

-A mysterious forest called the “Forest of the Early Dawn” was able to exist up to the current time even back when the desertification was going on. It was once called “The Land Where Dragons Lived” but no one knows the details.

- The characters that you can customize for yourself (hair, face, gender) have the “Power of the Dragon”. They also have adventuring fellows (that are AI controlled in battle) and you can choose from human, fairy, Woren clan, and Grassrunners. The controls are simple and if you time skills right you can chain combos.

- The blond girl’s name is Nina. In the past the descendents of her tribe, the Wing Clan, was able to transform into huge birds and flutter in the sky. She is traveling and part of the reason is because her hometown, Wyndia was destroyed (by Schwarz Kingdom I assume). I notice that she doesn’t have wings so it makes me wonder if their clan has degraded to the point after breeding outside of her clan where she doesn’t have them anymore or maybe the clan weakened even more over the years…

-The green haired girl’s name is Peridot. When Dragnier was destroyed by Schwarz Empire you met her coincidentally, and she saves the wounded main character.

- Since Dragnier was destroyed, in this game you make your own Dragnier town. It’s an online game so you can do stuff like visit other people’s towns and help attack monsters your friends are fighting.

From the sound of things the Wing tribe has lost their clan abilities due to interbreeding and thus, become clanless. (Clanless being normal humans. It's an established fact within the Breath of Fire series that interbreeding of the races eventually results in the loss of clan powers and becoming clanless - the name given to 'humans' with no abilities in the series.)

Also, it's nice that the Woren are still around - due to them being a very rare clan they should have ceased to exist a long time ago because they tend to be wide-spread and very few and far between, thus should have bred themselves out of existence already. Perhaps my personal theory of them having dominant genetics isn't too far from the truth.

I do hope you get to recruit Ryu at some point. The series revolves around him as the hero so it'd be weird if he weren't around in some small way.

I'm not sure how I feel about creating your own character. I like having choices like that in games, but being a Breath of Fire game I wish they'd just gone with Ryu as the main character instead. Still, it sounds like your character is one of the Dragon clan, so I guess if you really wanted you'd be able to 'make' Ryu. Of course, it'd be awkward if you'd 'made' him and then he turns up to join your party at a later date.

Oh, also, making your own town? Yes please~ And not just a freakin' fairy town either. I missed that from II. Wonder how it works? Do you get to pick the layout, or is it just carpenter/occupants. I'd think they'd progress a bit with it since new technology allows for more components in a game, but we'll see I guess. Either way, I do like the sound of visiting other peoples' towns too - it's about the only thing I'd use multi-player for since I'm not big on it.
