NEWCOMER FROM GERMANY & QUESTION

Hello RMN community!
My nickname is Malagar, and I am from germany.
I started years ago with rpgmaker2000, went to 2k3 and now finally switched to VXAce. As the german RPGMaker communities are slowly becoming extinct - I decided to switch to RMN instead.
Have been lurking RMN quite some time and seen some great screenshots and art! Would like to become part of this community. I consider myself being quite good using RPGMAKER 2k3 and slowly get some understanding of VXAce (also scripting).
And a question: How do the RMN members see the use of copyrighted artwork? There are so many fangames out there and so many custom games that use sprites from old videogames. What should i do? Go completely RTP, completely custom? (this is impossible) or does the community not mind if I use copyrighted sprites in my project?
Cheers

Hiya, Malagar!
RMN is fine with using sprites and tiles from other games. That's under the assumption you're not going to try to pretend that it's yours. There's also the exception where it's frowned upon to use assets like that from another indie developer's game. RMN is the same with music.

Sprites, tiles, music etc. from commercial games is fine if used in a non-commercial one, but yeah try not to use anything that people have made for their games in yours, unless the creators say otherwise~
Anyway, welcome to RMN! :D

Hello you two, and thank you for the heart welcome!
Of course my project(s) are absolutely free and open-source. No intentions besides adding something enjoyable to the community.
So, i will add some sprites from (older) commercial games to spice up the RTP.
PS: Game page will take some time, I want to produce something worth showing first.

German RM communities are dying?? That's news to me! (Someone had just started translating some old articles of mine into German, too).

Mmmm... strudel.
Again: Thanks for the hearty welcome!
Well, not all of them are dying. (That was a bit drastically spoken). But many of the smaller boards have been bustling with activity month/years ago and nowadays you wait like 3-4 days for a single answer.
International communities, like this one - are more active by nature. Thats a language thing. I see people from all over the world here, all speaking english to communicate.
strudel, yay! :-D

You guys make the best chocolate.
And the best beer.
And play the best futbal (although, the Spaniards sure seem to be beating you guys as of late).
-- Welcome aboard, friend. :)
(Maybe you can coach the Canadian men's team to actually beat "Honduras" for a change.)

Do you visit rpg-atelier.net?
At least I also visit it and it's quite active there.
I should probably decide one day to write an introduction here anyway.
