FINAL FANTASY 6 REMAKE!

Posts

I actually like these Character graphics. The town graphics tho... Oh god they forgot how to do towns when FFXIII started development. Jesus.

As expected, the monster graphics and spells effects are really nice.

Disagree. FF5 had great monsters and spell animations. They are bad in FF6--especially the spell animations.

Yeah, the difference in resolutions, graphic styles, proportions; all comes together to make of that screen a very facepalm-worthy one...

That being said, I actually like the new character portraits. They're not better than Amano's artwork, but they're pretty and seem to be more fitting to overall aesthetics of this particular port. But still, the charas don't match the character's design and that is a bummer. =/
There are so many mapping errors that it really makes my head spin. I counted three or four before I even reached the Narshe mines. Also I get a stupid amount of lag/slowdown on my tablet.

I DETEST the way the battle menus are now, and I even turned the ATB off because I hated watching the menus each rise so slowly. They just look so out of place. Ignoring the menus, the battles themselves actually look okay. I'm also glad that they left the original OST intact rather than butchering it with soulless remixes.

You know, if it weren't for the contrast between the character sprites and the rest of the map, this would look pretty darn snazzy.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

I noticed something about the new style of character sprites that makes me hate them slightly less.

Android version screenshot:

Images from the SNES instruction manual:
That's EXACTLY what I thought! I didn't notice until I got Shadow, though. I was like "Hey this looks familiar..." and sure enough!
Yeah, I noticed, and you know what I said when I first saw those illustrations years ago? "Man, I'm glad the sprites don't look like that, because those look real dumb."

Hmmmm.... something's missing but I'm sure they just changed the inputs to reflect that. Let's see what's needed now to deal with trains!

oh god fucking damnit

Serious Question: Did they actually forget to include the blitz inputs? This is third hand info but jesus christ if they did
They probably just figured that once you did them one time, you'd be sure to write down what you did somewhere or that you have an impeccable memory. (I doubt that anyone could remember the inputs without of doing them millions of times, but that's just me)

Though, may I ask what's wrong with the first screenshot? You say something is missing, but I can't (for the life of me at that!) see what would be missing.

Edit: What are the "!"s for?

I was pretty sure they'd just get rid of that entire aspect and replace them with normal skills like Edgar's tools. Instead it looks like they actually designed a way to have the Street Fighter style button combos. Neat? I mean there aren't X and Y buttons to push, so the input for Suplex/Mantra/Spiraler is probably different from before, but that's fine.

So I guess I'm not actually sure what you're bothered by? What am I missing in that screenshot? It probably has something to do with the help text for the skill not listing the button combos...

Can Sabin still suplex a train? That's what I want to know.
Using the power of divination it has been determined that you should google the GBA blitz inputs and replace the shoulder button inputs with UL/UR so you can do blitz in this version. Good job Square!

The part where blitz inputs have changed to only use directions is fine, its updating the controls to reflect the hardware its running on. The part where the game never tells you the inputs for blitz is hilariously bad and is a regression from the original game.

I was never bothered by anything, I just didn't think of the GBA's shoulder buttons missing.
I just had a realization that Final Fantasy 6 taught me the word "pummel." "Raging Fist" is a skill name dreamt up by a thirteen year old writing Naruto fan fiction.

It probably wasn't Pummel to begin with. GBA translation was closer to the source material because there were fewer character and cart size restrictions.

Actually, based on the screenshots, that's only one of two possibilities. I'm guessing what actually happens is that first you open the Blitz menu in battle, and you get a list of known blitzes, and choose one. And then the arrows you're supposed to push flash on the screen, letting you know to push them. Because easymode.
Nope! Trip reports from the field have the player either having to remember blitz from playing the SNES/GBA version, googling them, or in cases involving the now missing face buttons, guessing and hoping they divined the correct input sequence.

Figaro Castle sure gets around now
