*COMPLETE* DOWNTIME SUN., OCT. 13TH 9AM - 10AM CDT
Posts
The site will be down for an hour or so this Sunday around 9:00AM CDT (2:00PM GMT) in order to push the latest updates. It shouldn't actually be down for the whole hour, more than likely it will be up and down during the hour timeframe. I'll update this topic when I'm done.
You can go here: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html if you are unsure what time that is in your time zone.
Once the site is back up you'll want to make sure to clear your cache or do a hard refresh on any pages that don't seem to work right.

These updates had better be for either:
A. Increasing my Maker Score
B. Giving everyone an excuse to play Pokemon X/Y (even if they should be working on their Halloween projects)

I'm still on Pokemon Yellow.
Also, wow I really need to get working on the site. our backlog of changes/updates/fixes is getting loooooooong. (Too bad https sites are blocked at work, and the SVN code repo. ffs)
EDIT: the only thing I think I added was a few new taglines and rotating in ads from a different source (so that we aren't 100% reliant on Google "Our Guideline Restrictions Are So Prohibitive That Even Preschoolers Shake Their Heads In Befuddlement" Ads)

I'm sure these updates'll be coo'. Looking forward to them.
Also this is the only Pokemon-related thing I'll ever need

I have a mockup of the frontpage tweaks I had in mind.
http://rpgmaker.net/media/content/users/105/locker/rmn_mock4_5d.jpg
-wider images for games
-less text for games (shown on hover) (inspired by Steam's homepage)
-Either groups of 6 shown straight up (like in the Buzzing Games/New&Notable) or as tabbed windows with 12 games (like HighRated/Latest Downloads)
-I was thinking of splitting the game sections into two (like Steam again!) but instead of GAMS | WRITING | GAMS, it could be GAMS | GAMS | WRITING.
-the Writing section is 3 or 4 "hot topics" and 1 featured article/review.
-News/What's Buzzing moved over to the right column
-reduce the number of Latest on the frontpage (moving some to the Dev portal instead)
-making Screenshots sections sidebyside
-minor game featurettes all grouped together at the bottom (RMN TV, POTM, Artwork (? or something else?), Gamespots)
EDIT:
I started this mockup in May, so the header is a little out of date.

Not much difference. a tad more streamlined perhaps?> Anyway I assume you'll be getting some feedback *Reviews info on the new games and Pokémon Bank* Don't forget to get the special Torchic and Blazikenite guys. *Sigh8 By the time i get a 3ds I may miss the opportunity. :(
A whole hour without RMN!?
T-That means I’ll have to go outside!
- OUTSIDE!!! :O
(Meh, who am I kiddin'; I'll probably be watching some football on T.V. until then.)

Ok, pretty sure this is done! Remember to clear your browser cache!
New things in the update:
- Hover over the mailbox and notices menu items to get a preview of your unread messages / notices
- A "Play List" feature, similar to playlists on YouTube and Wish Lists on Amazon. Add games and let other members know what you are playing! This feature is kind of in beta mode. It should be mostly complete, but suggestions and feedback are welcomed!
- Whatever kentona mentioned previously

Still the preview text is still overlapping.
that is the only problem.
author=jomarcenterYou must not have done it right then. It is working just fine. Unless it's your browser. I'm using FF.

About kentona's mockup, there are some good changes but a few not so good ones.
Putting the Classic and Event spotlights all the way at the bottom seems like a strange choice. Why did you do that anyways? You had 4 of the same things at the top, and now there's 2 at the top and 2 at the bottom? They look lonely and out of place.
Having the What's Written in the middle like that seems kinda odd. It seems like What's Written and What's Buzzing are a pair, so they should be put together in a more balanced way.
What exactly is Artwork? Like pic of the moment but for non game pics? I do like how those are lined up.
Maybe put Latest Blogs higher up? Since they cycle through more often?
I think the Latest Downloads section should be instantly visible and higher up on the page. Or least have priority over Highly Rated. I usually ignore Highly Rated, but I'm always interested to see new downloads. Even more than buzzing games or new and notable. Sometimes that's my only way of knowing when a game I want to play is released. (I don't subscribe to every game I want to play because I hate endless notices about stupid crap when all I want to know is when the download is available. Is there a way to subscribe to that information only?)
I like the new thumbnails for games. Fitting more in those sections is a good idea.
Is there a way to subscribe to that information only?
Subscribe to the game normally, then go to your Subscriptions -> Edit -> And un-tick all the check-boxes except for 'donwloads'

I like the changes so far, at least on my desktop, on my mobile the notices take all the screen and I can't click anything else. =S
About that mock-up. Yeah, some things are good but some others not so much. But I wonder is why do you keep stacking stuff in the front page. Isn't that why the portals were created? Anyway, I may pitch you some ideas once the AHE is over... Too busy right now! xP
I found that even if you already saw the notices, when you highlight it,they still have all these new tags on them. Like, open Notices, go somewhere, then try just hoving mouse to notices.

jc, you need to clear your browser cache as ankylo mentioned. I am using FF and got the notices' preview OK in RMN main page, but messed used everywhere else. I cleared the cache and now I am loving it (not an McD endorsement)! Thanks to whoever suggested that improvement.

Haven't tried the feature yet, but I'll definitely need to try to create a gameplaying queue to get to once I start playing RMN gams again.
Regarding kentona's mockup, I don't think I see anything enabled in this update just yet in RMN's main page. I pretty much agree with Link's suggestions except my reasons might be different than his.

Sorry, you need to hover over them with your mouse in the menu for them to be marked as read, not just open the menu.
