THE RECOMMEND ME A GAME GAME

Addit's tutorial about the importance of networking hit me square in the jaw. I like to pretend I'm a tortured artist, isolate myself in my room, and write, compose, or make games. This hasn't been the best way to meet new people, so I came up with this game to expose me to more people and their games. Here's the deal: I want to play more games on this site, but there are so many that I don't know what to pick. I'm giving everyone here a chance to recommend me a game. Here are the rules:

1) This game is broken up into rounds. A round lasts until I've chosen a game.
2) Players can do any combination of the following in their post, but please limit yourself to no more than one of each category:
+2 points to a game other than your own.
+1 point to one of your own games.
-1 point to someone else's game.
3) Players can only take one turn per round, but they can comment in the thread before or after their "turn."
4) Points carry over to the next round.
5) The winning game will be played to completion and reviewed by me. I think I'm a fairly tough critic, especially with regard to writing, so keep in mind that winning might be a double-edged sword.
6) In the advent of a tie, I'll use my own discretion to pick a winner from the games that have the highest scores (in other words, I'll pick whichever one grabs me).

Here are the games I will play:
-Fun games.
-Crappy games.
-Games with the standard battle system of your engine.
-Games with neat custom battle systems.
-Games with no battle systems at all.
-Short games.
-Long games.
-Hard games.
-Easy games.
-Red games, blue games, old games, new games.

Here are the games I will NOT play:
-Incomplete games or demos.
-Episodic games--unless all the episodes are complete.
-Games that are so buggy I can't possibly beat them.
-Games that are so difficult that I can't possibly beat them. Keep in mind, though, that I can take a lot of pain.
-Commercial games.
-Games that I have already played and reviewed. Here's a list:

Halloween Bash
Halloween Flop (I kind of implicitly reviewed this in my Halloween Bash review)
Teenage Costume Squad
The Grumpy Knight
Dhux's Scar

Additionally, if you're seriously interested in working with me in the future, present, or, through some temporal anomaly, the past, shoot me a message. I'm a story and music guy, so you should probably play A Very Long Rope to the Top of the Sky to see my writing and music preferences; The God of Crawling Eyes will give you a decent idea in a shorter space, but it's not as representative of the direction I'd want to go in (I'm still open to horror games in the future; I just don't want to be pigeon holed). I'm also wanting to work towards commercial projects, so if that's not something you're interested in doing at least at some point in the future, it's probably best that we don't work together.

That's it! I'd like to play a lot of good games from this and hopefully meet some cool people to form a team.
Umm I'll defend with Dhux's Scar?

Have a feeling I'm doing it all wrong :<
You're doing it right StarSkipp. You can also recommend your own game in addition to recommending another's. So, here's a sample post from my perspective:

+1 to the The God of Crawling Eyes.
+2 to The Grumpy Knight.
-1 to Halloween Bash.

Or I could not attack and say:
+1 to the The God of Crawling Eyes.
+2 to The Grumpy Knight.

Or I could not recommend my own game and say:
+2 to The Grumpy Knight.
-1 to Halloween Bash.

Or I could only recommend another game, like you did:
+2 to The Grumpy Knight.

So, in other words, while you can recommend your own game and downvote another person's game, you have to recommend someone else's game. So you're fine. I'd prefer the format I used in this post for keeping tabs on this more easily, but saying "defend," "attack," etc. is fine too. If you want to recommend your own game, too, you can StarSkipp. Sorry if my initial post was too vague.

If any of my own games were done, I'd be promoting them, but I'll "defend" instead.

+2 to Atherion. A short, fun, interesting game.
Marrend, try limiting it to one recommendation of another's game and one recommendation of your own game per post as per the rules (see my post above yours for the formatting).

Though, if this forum game never takes off, I might just turn this into a recommendation thread. I was hoping to make a recommendation thread that encouraged a bit more interactivity, but if it's unnecessarily complex then I'll drop it.

Noted, Housekeeping. Let's try this once more with the right formatting feeling!

+2 to The Astonishing Captain Skull. The game has a disheartening number of downloads. Not as disheartening as, say, Sorceress Quest, but let's not go there. In any event, don't let download count deter you!

+1 to Uchioniko. It attempts to encapsulate the feel of the "magical girl" genre, though I like to think I put my own twists on it.

- I HATH INSPIRED!

Also, this sounds like fun! The rules at first seem a bit hard to follow, but I think I finally get it now.

+2 - Volorn (Definitely one of the best games I’ve played all year with its incredible atmosphere and sound. If you’re the type of person who likes to figure out clever puzzles on your own and feels rewarded by doing so then this is the game for you. It’s also pretty short to complete, just a few hours is all it takes. You’ll hate the 30 soul harvesting mission, though. But other than that, it’s a great game.)

-1 - Marie Goes To Space (Oh god, THIS. Although it’s probably worth giving it a shot seeing how it only takes less than a minute long to complete, there really is no viable purpose in playing this since you can get the exact same score all the time and nothing else really changes in the gameplay department. Easily one of the worse games I’ve played here so far. Skip.)

Wow. I totally forgot about Marie Goes to Space. Yeah, I kind have to back up the -1 Addit gives that game.
Wow, already a game at -2...

This only intrigues me more...
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

+2 to Chrono Trigger. The greatest RPG of all time, now hosted on RMN!

-1 to Aetherion because it's already a featured game and doesn't need any additional recs beyond that.

Alright, I was hoping to get some more recommendations, especially for everyone's own games, but, hey, this is a nice start, and at least I don't have to do much math. Since the first two posts get an extra point as per my convoluted rules (Marrend's post didn't specify where to give the extra point, so no bonus points there), the current standings are:

Dhux's Scar: 3
Atherion: 2
The Astonishing Captain Skull: 2
Uchioniko: 1
Vorlorn: 2
Marie Goes to Space: -2
Chrono Trigger: 2
Sunset Over Imdhal: 2

...which means I'm going to review Dhux's Scar. The next round starts now, so anyone who already voted can vote again, and if you want to vote for the same games, that's fine, too. Don't be afraid to hype your own games.

I guess you need another game to play after reviewing Dhux's Scar, don’tcha?

Hmmmm…

Touhou – Wandering Souls intrigues me because it looks so awesome and so advanced - but I don’t know anything about Touhou! So, maybe you might be able to take a look? It’s only fair. So, +2 for Touhou – Wandering Souls.

Annnnnnd...I’m still going to have to give another minus for Marie Goes To Space. That game is garbage!

Okay, time to recommend some surreal games because they are awesome.

+1 Space Funeral. I never quite finished this game, but it was interesting, to say the least.

+2 Middens. It's hard to beat the sheer experience of exploring the Rift. Whatever theories may prop up about Nomad, or the gun, doesn't seem to matter to me.

+1 Aetherion. By far, my favorite of the 2011 Summer Games, whose theme was surrealism.

+1 I'm Scared of Girls. Winner of the aforementioned 2011 Summer Games event.

-2 Weird Dreams. Among the lowest points of my RMN career, in my opinion.
Hey, Marrend, remember: you give +2 points to other people's games, +1 to your own, and -1 to games you don't like. Too, limit yourself to one per category.

I've made the wording of the rules a bit clearer now, so hopefully that will prevent any further confusion.

Edit: I took out the doubling/nullifying rules so that everything's simpler.

I can't "+1" Weird Dreams. Heck, I gave it a "-2", so that should tell you how confident I feel about it.

But, uh, yeah, maybe I went a little crazy with that last post!
I'm not sure what to count from you, Marrend, so I'm going to ignore your megapost for now (I don't know why I'm being a dick about the rules when I've only gotten two responses in the past week and a half, but I can't help it). Just post one game that you want to give +2 to, +1 to one of your own games (if you want), and -1 to a game that you think sucks (if you want), but don't give more than one per category. Here's the current standing:

Aetherion: 2
The Astonishing Captain Skull: 2
Uchioniko: 1
Vorlorn: 2
Marie Goes to Space: -3
Chrono Trigger: 2
Sunset Over Imdhal: 2
Touhou--Wandering Souls: 2

I'll pick the next game this Saturday; I'd like to do one every other week since I could keep that pace up indefinitely.

In that case, I'll simplify it down to:

+2 Middens
-1 Weird Dreams

Okay?
