NEW POLICIES FOR 2014: A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

It just kind of annoys me that saying "you can't call women 'whores' on this website" gets blown up into some kind of tyrannical social justice overreach.
I mean seriously.
My thoughts exactly -_-
I'm honestly a little tired of anything that remotely deals with any subject that could be interpreted as feminist getting bogged down with people who have strong opinions about social justice and want to make sure everyone knows where they stand even if the topic is just "Hey, don't be a jerk to ladies."
I've had to ignore several topics that got derailed like this, because what was at one point tasteful discourse quickly escalates into an "us vs them" battleground that isn't so much a conversation as it is a shouting match.
Don't get me wrong, I'm very grateful that this discussion has remained pretty civil. But after several locked threads on this subject in the past, I'm pretty sure we all know where people stand on the issues.
I think everyone agrees with the 'don't be a jerk to ladies (or anyone, for that matter)', but hey, topics evolve. But, I didn't even know this topic was still a thing until Max revived it.
But this topic did go pretty off course. I'd always like to discuss more about social justice, but this isn't the topic to do so, I admit.

It could all be summed up into a single rule that my mom always told me:
"Play nice with each other and remember, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."
If people would just rememeber this and practice it, we wouldn't be having these problems. But too often people think difference of opinions means resulting to insults and mud slinging.
Leave the insults out, no matter how minuscule they may seem. You'll probably have better, meaningful discussions that way when you're not constantly worrying about being on the defensive or offensive, or having to reply to posts that want to derail everything.

^ I prefer: "Don't do unto others what you don't want others to do unto you." The other seems aimed at silencing people. xP

And don't worry, I'm sure both sides are familiar with their positions being blown out of proportion from time to time. But I think we all know that those positions DO exist and we just want to make sure the pendulum doesn't swing too far on either direction. right? ;)

Also, the word "announcement" is being misspelled on the thread's title, and that has been bothering me all this time. >_>

That was the other saying my mom always preached to me, and I thought about applying that as well. But really, it's not so much silencing the other person so much as getting them to at least respect the other person's opinion, no matter how much you disagree.
Either way, though, both sayings really apply. We don't have to like somebody or their opinion, but we don't have to call them names, either.
Yeah, no. Please no. I think the forum has really progressed over the past couple of years and shouldn't be judged by a couple of bad examples.

maybe I should just delete the forums

I didn't even notice. I fixed it though. Just for you.
I remember an early job I had as a janitor at this aerodynamic parts manufacturing center (or some such nonsense)
And there was this bathroom that was just consistently dirty. Like nasty filthly. And everyday I would clean it!
Anyways, they ended up closing that bathroom because the workers didn't care for it. Didn't appreciate the close proximity.
Then is was ten times harder for them to go to the bathroom.
So, there is a lesson in there somewhere.

"Don't shit where you work"?
This was WIP's final solution.
no wait... shutting down RMN completely was his final solution. Removing forums was his pre-final solution.

Why don't we just shut kentona down?

careful. comments like this are what send me into a depressive spiral and cause me to ragequit!
I like "cunt." It's got a lot of punch to its phonaesthetics--maybe even better than "fuck" which shares similar strengths. "Dick" is pretty underwhelming because of the soft consonant and how high in the throat the vowel is uttered.
Anyway, I don't know why the word is still considered so taboo. Maybe it's just some lingering Victorian-era thing where ladybits were considered so sacred. But you definitely can't call most white woman in the USA anything worse than "cunt".

It's your fault, Jude. You cancelled Necropolis, and now we have nothing better to do than pick faults with one another. :)
@Jude: Patriarchy and it being bad to be a female. That's why it's such a bad word. Even if it is fun to say.
I like the forums. We work hard to make sure that the place is good for everyone in them and try to allow freedom of expression without assholes shitting it up. I think we do a pretty good job at it, too. If all we have to worry about are a few bots and someone shitting it up every year or so, then that's not too bad. Especially compared to some of the forums out there that are really assholish or super restrictive. You have your freedom to speak about things political, social justicial, sexual and so forth (as long as they don't go cray-cray) which a lot of RM forums don't encourage (because they tend to denigrate into shit-fests.)
Our member base is, for the most part, not-horrible and great to talk to about any subjects, even if they disagree about things.
Yeah. I like these forums.

Well, it's staying in my vocabulary.
I would both be super bored and super bummed without these forums. I like rambling about stuff, plus everyone has totally come up with cool ideas and game jams, and I like having new gam mak friends :)
Jude, assuming you live in America, you're free to say whatever you want, just don't expect people to like it, eh?

We must have a new generation of users, as there seems to be a lot of confusion over my recent posts (shouldn't everyone know by now not to take anything I say seriously? except when i am being serious of course). That or the memberbase is growing more earnest and less jaded.
I am a relic of a dying age.

If it helps at all, I never take anything you say seriously.
even the serious stuff
