PIXEL QUILT: LOGO EDITION!

Posts

All digital art (in fact anything on a computer screen) is made of pixels but not all digital art is pixel art. There is no issue whatsoever with the quality of your art itself (this is a for-fun pixel quilt, after all, plus your design is fine?) but you've misunderstood pixel art as a term, that's all. It's not just Nessiah's definition, it is a definition that all the other tiles meet. Again this is not an issue of quality but an issue of misunderstanding the definition.

edit - sorry, late to the reply party there. You could always do a different design if the approach is new to you and you wanna do something more suited to that instead?

I may not be a master of your so-called "pixel art," however you define it, but my art (made of pixels, might I add) is worthy to share space with yours.

You are meaning to tell me that you used over 4000 colors by hand and meticulously placed them manually?

It's a simple concept of, it's okay that you find it amazing, we wouldn't have called you out for it, if it wasn't for the fact that it's not Pixel Art. It's not about elitism, shunning out, or whatever. It's just NOT pixel art.
Understood. and yes, since the apprroach is new to me i think I'll do something different. I might as well try.

They told me I was mad when I said I was going to create a spidertable. Who’s laughing now!!!

Go for it, BT!

Trust me, pixel art is painstaking but not terribly difficult, especially if you already have some art fundamentals under your belt.

*Shrugs* I may not have those, but I'll try. I got the general idea though- arranging the pixels in a certian way to create an image.
There are some good pixel art tutorials around if you try google too, might provide some useful information.

While I'm here I'll claim V plz, these spaces have gone like hotcaekz.

Omk thanks. I'll look it up>- i assume it's somethign like pointillism... I saved the other bit separately to preserve it.
Pixel art is a lot of fun but like with most things, the fun curve starts lower and rises the better you get at it.

That Q one just totally broke all things that makes a piece pixel art. That should be replaced or we might as well rename this as a general Art Quilt.

While it's very obviously not pixel art, I'm trying to understand why you and a few others are caring?
I was gonna contribute and saw that, it's inconsistent. I also am tired of people thinking pixel art is just another digital art with AA. IF that's what you're trying to ask?

or are you asking that since I haven't contributed yet I have no right as a member of the community to comment on it?

What kind of artists we'd be if we let that thing slide? I'm encouraging people to use the brushtool and "pixel" their works?

(I just woke up and got a pm. and right now I'm in IDGAS mode to rephrase my answers to not sound like I'm pissed/being sarcastic/whatever. At this point I'm just stating stuff.)

Simmer down, people, I'm sorry for stirring this all up. Anyway I'm trying something in Paint now. Just to clarify, can I draw a line with the pencil or must i tap each dot in individually? *Hasn't quite made sense of the tutorials yet.*
@BT basically, just disable AA (AntiAliasing) on all your tools. Be it the line tools, etc. You can use the pencil tool and do shit with it. Go crazy! (but make sure it's clean)
The best way to do pixel art is to make sure you're using a 1x1 pencil tool. Don't worry about taking shortcuts like using the fill tool to quickly paint an entire section. Nobody would really expect you to paint an entire sky that is one uniform colour pixel by pixel. :p

I don't see any clear option in Paint- how do i know whether I have AA on or off? Thanks for your patience btw
Yeah don't worry about having to do every pixel one by one (although you can if you want, and for certain things that'll work a lot better).

A simple illustration:

AA is the transparency variation/ "smoothing" effect you can see on the "brush" example, whereas on the "pixels" example there is no AA - you can see the pixels even though it was done in a single stroke.

Just don't use the brushes and use the pencil tool. I rechecked the vector tools and it seems like as long as you click pencil then the linetool/etc. it won't AA.

OK then. So Either Gimp w/pencil or PAint. Thanks. Sorry for the fuss.

Like this?
yes! That would count as one!

@Archeia: I was asking why you care if it looks inconsistent. Simple as that, no meta-meanings behind it. The reason I asked is because this is generally a fun, creative event with very few guidelines to begin with. Perhaps it's just me, but in an event like this, seeing one or two non-pixel art panels doesn't bother me, because it's not like we are aiming to put together a DaVinci painting, here.

I'll drop it from here, though, since BurningTyger changed it anyway and meh.
