OK, CAN SOMEONE FLAT OUT TELL ME WHY JAPAN HAS SO MANY WEIRD SEXUAL FETISHES?
Posts
Let's see...
Most of the time, Immigrants towards Australia are either war torn or something, specially Vietnamese and black people that don't want to go back to their country. Philippines on the other hand, I have no idea if we're still accepting people but from what I've heard is that they usually accept people that needs to be protected or something. And...Philippines isn't a good place to live in when you want to be in a city because of the pollution, not saying it's a deadzone or anything.
Some people go to Japan, I certainly read a lot that people migrate to Japan and Japanese people migrate to other countries.
Sorry, I can't make any sense for now since I'm tired.

I'm not going to make any sort of response to the contents of this topic. I do not mind discussion and I love a good HEATED discussion. But things ballooned here. If you guys would like to have a more unrefined discussion about this, feel free to hop into IRC. I know I would love to watch.
Thanks for salvaging it, WIP before it got too messy. I admit that I had no intentions on pissing anyone off when I made the topic, but hey, we got some good discussion off.
Down the line and when the forum gets bigger, I'd actually like having a frank, mature discussion on human sexuality in general, I studied it and it's pretty interesting stuff (and one of the only things that applies to everyone). Perhaps down the line we'll get it going. I promise that it'll turn out decent (because I've had a similar topic on a Final Fantasy fanboard and it got ten pages of some of the most intelligent and interesting thoughts I've ever seen. Now, if a Final Fantasy forum can do it...). Perhaps down the line.
And Ocean, next time you feel a topic is bad or unnecessary, try actually being constructive about it instead of shitting it up. Thanks.

I won't bother reading what this thread has devolved into in its entirity. It seems pretty ignorant to me. Most of the "debating" occurring here seems to ignore the true nature of generalization and stereotyping, and has instead taken the knee-jerk reaction, especially with regards to implications to understanding race and cultures.
Generalizing and stereotyping are almost an absolute necessity for the world we live in. That doesn't mean it's true for each individual of a stereotype, but it does mean that in a large sample it would be very likely to occur with consistency. Stereotyping in and of itself should not be negative unless it is done with malice. There is a big difference between saying "all african-americans males are criminals" and "african-american males are more likely to be incarcerated than hispanic or white males". The former inspires feelings of inferiority against a race, the latter is just a fact of American society (and doesn't delve in to the reasons for the higher incarceration rate).
It is a well-documented fact of the global society that women in eastern cultures are more likely to be submissive than their western counterparts (Australia is generally regarded as a western society despite its location). That does not mean it is true that every woman in the east is submissive, nor does it mean all western women are aggressive. Families in eastern societies are also more likely to be communal rather than the more individually focused western societies. There are literally dozens of stereotypes like these that are, in fact, true.
Stereotypes do not have to be rooted in fear, xenophobia or ignorance.
I say this because, while Feldschlacht's wording may have been insensitive at times, I am more troubled by the response it elicited from those who he indirectly bashed. The problem is everyone thinks they are this unique individual and they can't be put nice and neat into categories -- but, hey, guess what? Mathematically your race or culture can be indeed be stereotyped, and numbers by themselves don't lie. It's the inferences that people draw from them that make the logic faulty.
