REMAKE THE ORIGINAL FINAL FANTASY...

I'm looking for someone who knows how to use RPGmaker to help me create a remake of the original final fantasy. I have all the concepts, I just need someone who knows how to use the program and can make this happen. Not just updated graphics and some bonus dungeons like Square/Enix did. I'm looking to do the following:

!!! Change the Character concepts, progression and look
-All 4 characters start as a generic class and choose their "starting class" after defeating garland
-Have fewer "starting classes" and have multiple choices for each class when they get their level advancement
-Change their level progression in terms of HP and MP so that they max out at 9999 HP and 999 MP like the majority of the following Final Fantasies
-Create unique combat abilities for each endgame class
-Ability to choose the gender and look of the characters when generating your party
-non-combat sprites would be larger and more detailed
-combat and non-combat sprites would change with equipment

!!! Item Changes
-add more useful and greater quantity of items that are usable in combat
-change items in chests to be more useful
-add a larger variety of weapons and armor
-add an accessory slot to the characters' equipment
-change the item type of certain types of equipment to match the accessory slot

!!! Change the magic system
-change combat enhancement spells (haste, etc.) to be appropriate for the ATB combat system
-change many of the combat enhancement spells to be far more useful. For example: invisible would make the character impossible to hit physically, but take extra damage from magic (like the final fantasy 6 spell)
-update spell names
-change the way magic damage, healing or effectiveness is calculated to be more proportionate to level progression
-Eliminate multiple levels of spells (fire --> fira --> firaga or invis --> invisara) in favor of a more effective magic power system.
-make quake into a damage spell instead of a whole-party instant kill spell

!!! Slightly change combat system
-change combat to use an ATB system and not be totally turn-based
-change the way certain status ailments work (make blindness more effective, awake from sleep when struck, etc.)
-remove instant kill and stone attacks as a part of a normal physical attacks for certain enemies and make spells or special abilities available to those enemies to have the same effect (pyrolisk, mindflayer)

!!! Map/story changes
-eliminate the bonus dungeons and put many of those bosses into the main storyline dungeons
-make some dungeons larger and/or have more floors
-decrease the number of set encounters in front of chests
-change the contents of many of the treasure chests to be more useful
-make the next destination in the storyline more obvious
unity
You're magical to me.

One thing I've always wished the original FF had was the option to choose the gender of your characters and have ladies and well as men. Any chance you'll implement something like that? :D
That's a lot of remaking, but not a whole lot of original FF? Why is this not a fan game since so much is changing?

Also, while you're asking for someone who can use the program (which I can), are you also asking for someone to make updated graphics and the sprites needed to change appearance on equip (which I can't)?

Basically, is what you've posted above the entirety of the project as of now? I'm not sure if I can help either way, but it'd be clearer if I knew the extent of what you were asking.

Changing the sprites with equipment changes is optional. Obviously if the user could choose the gender, and the classes advanced a little differently; there would need to be some sprites made. From what I have seen of RPG Maker, the built in character generator would be able to provide the necessary sprites.

I actually have almost every idea fleshed out completely in terms of mechanics, stats/etc. So really what I'm waiting for is someone to come along side me who is as enthusiastic about this as I am, and we make it a reality.

The above list is a "wish list" if you will. The entirety of the plot would remain the same, as well as the actual maps, dungeons, order of progress, etc. I guess it could be considered a fan game. Part of my train of thought was to rename it something like "Final Fantasy: Rebirth of a Legend." Although that's still up in the air... I really enjoyed the replay value of the original final fantasy; more than any other game of the entire series except FF4. The remakes that Square/Enix made were disappointing to say the least. All they did was fix a few bugs, make it a ton easier, and add 4 ludicrously long dungeons that provide no real benefit. I think they could have done so much more, and I'd like to see it done.

Why not make an original game instead of plagiarizing?
Granted, I don't think I've played the original FF, depending on what number that entails, but will allowing the player to choose genders at will really have no effect on the plot?
So let's say there's someone that would actually be interested in remaking FF1, with the knowledge of RPG Maker required for it.
It would most likely take months, if not years, to remake it in RPG Maker. What will you provide except these ideas, that probably took you a hour or two to put together?
What would they need you for?

Not at will. In the first FF, you create your own characters with their specific class at the start. Having more options might not change the gameplay, but it would allow more immersion to me, personally. I can't tell you how many times I made parties based off of friends and had to pretend certain characters are female. (some are easier than others in FF1 :P)

That's one thing about the original FF1. There are so many party combinations but always the same game and world. If Square ever remade it with a whole new world but the same class system, I'd totally be into it. Might be an idea to think about to make it a different experience ^_^

It would not have any effect on the plot; the plot is completely devoid of any specifics about the characters.

Touche. =D The idea is to take something I already know I like and make it better (IMO). Although I would like to eventually make my own game... Unfortunately, as a person with a busy personal life, I have little time to play games, let alone sit and do the programming associated with making one.

They wouldn't. I'm not saying they need me, I'm saying I need THEM... to take my ideas and make them a reality. In that respect, if someone actually does this for me, they can have all credit for the remake of the game, with the exception of any rights belonging to square/enix and the creative rights of the ideas behind the changes.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

The playable characters in FF1 are all nameless generic soldiers who never speak during the entire game, so yeah, it would have no effect. In fact, once you leave the starting town, no one ever again mentions the player characters to say anything other than "You'll never defeat me!" or "I can't believe you defeated me!"

The starting town has slightly more plot, in that the king realizes you're the prophecied Light Warriors and asks you to rescue the princess, you rescue her, she thanks you, and then the king rewards you so you can go on your journey to activate the crystals. This consists of about five boxes of dialogue total, and easily makes up more than half of the game's total plot.
Ok, well that clears things up a bit.

In that case, it seems like a fairly straight-forward project if the tilesets and sprites are available. Unfortunately, I think those are the hardest bits to fill in...

Translating your ideas into numbers and hard concepts is a pretty good next step, though. It's scary to latch onto something that can be made in a single brainstorming session, but if you had a simple chart showing the new, planned class system, it would be far less foreboding. Also, it'd help to know the specifics behind the improved magic system.

I'd offer to help with those, but, not knowing the source material, I'm afraid I can't do much more than data input.

Finding rips of the graphics from a game as popular as Final Fantasy would be pretty easy. I went to Spriters-Resource and immediately found rips from the NES, PSP, GBA, and WSC versions of the game, each of which had its own set of graphics. Then it's just a matter of picking one of those four converting those into the format VX Ace uses.

Getting all the scripts set up is going to be a bit tricky - in a remake, you can't just settle for "same basic idea", you probably need stuff to work pretty close to exactly the way it did in the original game. Of course, FF1 has some leeway here, since half the spells in the original game were bugged and didn't do anything.
The original combat system was overly simplistic. It was 100% turn based; each character got one action, each enemy got one action. Just using one of the pre-made, side view ATB combat systems someone has already shared the script for would probably be sufficient, rather than trying to program, then re-program the original combat system. I would be providing the ideas behind the spells, most of the original spells were pretty straightforward, but as stated, were either bugged, useless, or had such a low success rate that they weren't worth buying or wasting your MP casting.

You can literally find every detail of every item, weapon, armor, enemy, spell, etc. on one of the million walkthroughs out on the web. If someone gives me a green light, I will go out and find all of that for you...

If you download a gameboy advance emulator and play the Gameboy version for about 2 hours, you'll have pretty much the entire concept of the game down. I am not opposed to using slightly different tile sets than the original, however, from what little I have played with RPG maker, most of the tile sets in use on the original game are readily available, or at least something close.

Again, if someone gives me a "yes, I will do it," I've already got most of the ideas completely fleshed out. As in the exact numbers, equations, mechanics, the class system, etc. This has not been a single brainstorming session, it has been a brainchild of mine for years, and I have been getting the number crunching done since about a month ago. =D

Man why would you replace the beautiful turn-based system with fucking ATB of all things

...but no, no one is going to do this "for you." I'm sure there are people out there interested in remaking FF1, but so far you haven't actually offered to do any of it.
Bait and switch baby, bait and switch. That's how you do it.
Although I'm not a huge fan of ATB combat systems, the super-rigid turn-based system they use is just a graphic representation of the D20 combat system, which is so overplayed, boring and uninventive that it makes me want to puke. FF4 was the advent of the ATB system, and I think they did it the best...

You are mistaking me asking someone to do it WITH me for asking someone to do it FOR me. The programming aspect is not the entirety of the work involved in a project like this. In fact, with a tool like RPG maker, and all the scripts that are pre-made and shared on the web, it's probably about half or less. There are only 2 things keeping me from doing this myself: 1) the $70 for the program. Doesn't seem like much until you have to provide for a family. 2) The time it takes to LEARN RPG Maker. I simply don't have it...

So you're not doing anything, you just want to tell other people what to do. Got it. Can someone lock the thread please?
I dont think you realise the amount of time it would take to do this. And for what, remaking a game that already exists?
