GAMES YOU LOVE BUT EVERYONE HATES.

...I have to say, any of the Yu-Gi-Oh! games. Especially Duelist of the Roses and Falsebound Kingdom. Aside from that, the movie game for A Series of Unfortunate Events is one I like, but no one else seems to.

I think most people hated Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 because they played Sonic 06 first. And Sonic 06 tried so hard to be Sonic Adventure 3 that when gamers went back and played SA 1&2, they just remember the rage they felt in Sonic 06.

I think it's more-so to due to the fact that the standards of 3D games have raised since the release of SA1 and 2.

Wacky camera control, somewhat imperfect physics, and minigame bonanzas (mostly with platformers) were pretty common with 3D games between the late 90's and early 2000's. With that in mind, other than a few glitches and clipping here and there, there was nothing truly "wrong" with the Sonic Adventure games for their time. By 2006, however, with more games/franchises perfecting themselves from these pitfalls of early 3D games, the flaws of Sonic Adventure became less and less excusable, and on that note, the Sonic Adventure games are one of the few games of the franchise to have aged terribly over the years.

Thus, when Sonic '06 entered the scene, which wound up accentuating everything the franchise has done wrong up to this point, it was universally panned by critics, because in this day and age and during the year it was released, it's flaws were inexcusable.

Anyway, I actually think Sonic Adventure 1 is the best of the two. It felt like it better retained the tone and feel of the 2D Sonic games, and while there were some dark elements (Those poor Chao in the Tikal cutscenes...), it didn't get too wrapped up in its ridiculous story for its own good (like Sonic Adventure 2 or '06 did). Playing Sonic Adventure felt like playing an actual Sonic game by comparison.

Another thing SA1 did better was how it handled its multiple player characters. While every other campaign besides Sonic were pretty forgettable, at least when you chose a character/gameplay type at the start, you'd play in that style for the rest of the game. What SA2 did wrong was constantly change up gameplay style in a somewhat arbitrary manner within a single campaign, when you'd rather be solely playing a Sonic or Shadow stage. It made just about everything in that game feel inconsistent and scatter-brained, in addition to feeling daunting to play through since you were forced to take on missions you didn't like (You know I'm talking about the Knuckles and Rouge stages, here).

Aside from Sonic Adventure, am I the only one who kind of liked Sonic R? I guess it's nostalgia, but I'm surprised how often in comes up in reviews for the worst Sonic games. Machinima even ranked it #1 in the list of the worst Sonic games before Adventure... Wut?
wtf how is '06 not the automatic top spot?

Anyways, I think we talked about this on your '06-related status earlier this year, but I kinda like Sonic R. There aren't enough stages, and the turning speed isn't high enough for some of the corners in the game, though I feel Regal Ruin is the only real offender in this.
For Sonic's first 3D game, I think they did a good job. I don't find myself walking through walls or falling through floors, you gain speed when you roll down hills, and jumping is very quick and controllable.
The music is kinda... love or hate it, but I happen to like cheese and corn, so I'm fine with it, and I like Jacques' stuff in general.

As for this topic in general, its kinda hard for me to really think of anything. Its a lot more common for me to have a game that get a lot of hate (Star Soldier 64 upon release) or love (Zelda games) and I just think its okay, or okay games that are considered as such, but I feel are just as good as some other games that get love(lke Rocket Knight... though the primary criticism for that game seems to be that its $15 and not $10 lol).

The only other thing I could think of is shoot 'em ups in general, but the "hate" is really only like 50/50 in the press, with most releases averaging an 8 between all the 8s and 9s from places like Destructoid vs the typically more negative reviews from IGN and such. I don't really see the general gaming audience talk about these things at all anymore.
Digimon World 4, a pretty objectively bad game, but I was really enjoying a four player co-op experience with my friends. They, however, didn't like the game so after a vote we had to switch to Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, a game I look at with little to no fondness.

As some others have stated, I love Sonic Adventure 2 Battle; that's legit my favorite 3D Sonic. The first Sonic Adventure is okay too, I suppose.

Only sillies hate FFVII.
I kinda like Resident Evil 5... I played through it with a friend in co-op and it was loads of fun.
I'm not the only person to think this and it's not really a game that other people hate but imo Majora's Mask is an infinitely better game than Ocarina of Time.

Like, ~infinitely~

Otherwise, I have no idea.

(I could easily have answered the reverse question, though.)

hows it in the middle. the amount of popularity and legacy to that game is impossible to be evenly matched by a couple of forum hipsters.

@newblack: speaking of which I like ff8 slightly more than ff7

slightly
I cannot say Ocarina of Time is better than Majora Mask.
There were alot of interesting sidequests in the latter game.
Final Fantasy 7
Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts. It's everything I've ever wanted from a Lego video game.
Viva Pinata was pretty fun IMO anyway~

And last the Megaman Starforce games.

I liked it a lot as a kid.

It's still a guilty pleasure for me every once in a while, whenever me and my friends decide to set up a Hamachi network or some shit for it. Dat music, too.

The first Dead Rising is an extremely fun game that most people seem to dislike.

Yes, the controls are stiff and the timer can be very stressful but it works. I see the issues many have with it but once you get the hang of it, it's really a fun game with tons of things to do, something Dead Rising 2 expanded on along with a two player system.
I actually have Dead Rising but I played like, an hour of it. I really need to get my games up to date!

I was in the army at the time; I identified with Squall, and like girls like Rinoa. It was cool to see a game for people like me.
People really think everyone hates any entry in the Final Fantasy series? Even XIII at polarizing to people at most.

Certain ones people do hate on more than others.
Of course, yeah, but that's different from 'everyone hates'. I'm not ragging on Darken, I get what he meant, but I just wanted to level that for all the flak certain titles get, Final Fantasy XIII maybe (and no, I didn't like it) is the only one that comes close to everyone hating it.

I think the internet is a very small (albeit vocal) majority that makes it seem this way.

Apart from a very linear FF13, I doubt anyone can really argue (with facts) that the other games are bad and disliked.

I think there exists some genuine hate for XIV. Mostly because of the fact that it was initially glitchy as hell and couldn't handle large server crowds, and after being fixed it couldn't handle the server load either.
