Mostly because of the fact that it was initially glitchy as hell and couldn't handle large server crowds, and after being fixed it couldn't handle the server load either.author=Feldschlacht IVI think the internet is a very small (albeit vocal) majority that makes it seem this way.
People really think everyone hates any entry in the Final Fantasy series? Even XIII at polarizing to people at most.
Apart from a very linear FF13, I doubt anyone can really argue (with facts) that the other games are bad and disliked.
I'd agree with FFXIV now that you mention it.
I totally forgot about it (along with FFXI) because I truly dislike the decision to have two entries in the main series as online games.
I actually like Final Fantasy 13. At least the story. It was decent and had good characters. The graphics were awesome and when you could interact with things and speak with NPC's the game felt rather great actually. The fighting system was alright, too. Sometimes I think people only hate it because of its linearity. Which really is a big no no, but the music was good and that made it all a bit less boring.
I also like 13-2, for the semi-open world and the monster system. That was really cute. The story is a bit...weird, but I really enjoyed the idea behind it. And Noel was a great male protagonist. Not the best game, but a good JRPG in comparison to some other games. Never played Lightning Returns, though.
I think the original ending of 13 was good and it would get a lot less hate if they didn't make in a three parter.
