I'll make a poll thread about the result of these events soon for now, lock please.
What are the pros and cons of such a deal?

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

I'm 100% sure that absolutely no aspect of this deal is public and the entire thing is just a rumor at this point, so there's no possible way for you to have any way of knowing that there's anything bad about the deal.

And if Microsoft and Mojang both like the idea, then I'm sure it's probably fine. Minecraft already exists, they just want any potential sequels to be on the Xbone instead of the Wii U.
I doubt mojang would sell something that is still making them serious bank. Like they said not long ago - they really have no need for money, they've enough that they their company won't need to make a game for about 10 years, worst case scenario. It's more likely that they're wanting to purchase rights to the exclusivity for their consoles but no idea whether or not mojang would go for it - from what I've heard, the PS4 version is a bit better than the Xbone one so far.

Also, the way you worded your post makes it seem like the problem is that Microsoft is buying Minecraft, as though it's a negative for Microsoft, a bad deal for them. If anything, it'd be mojang that would suffer most from a deal like that as they wouldn't be bringing in Sony's money in addition to the money they already get from PC/Xbone/tablets/etc.

I dont really see the big deal in if they buy Mojang. Mojang made a little more than 100 million last year so if the buyout offer is what they say it is than I think even Mojang will do a double take & consider it atleast.

Like Liberty said, I'm sure its more to ensure that Minecraft stays away from PlayStation & Nintendo due to it being such a huge phenomenon in the industry. 50 million copies sold or around that.
Report: Microsoft Trying To Buy Mojang, Creators Of Minecraft
Here is a report about it, seems legit.

Also, Think about it, what was the last popular company MS bought? RARE, and we all know how THAT turned out.
Petition? Seriously?

Did you make this?

I don't think this is the intended use of change.org.

Basically this is bad news if true, because it is artificially creating exclusivity, and gaming as a whole suffers. Jim does a better job of explaining it than I do.
After reading a few articles on this, it seems that it's not a sure thing. There are some discussions but no-one is saying exactly what is being discussed - some say they're looking at purchasing exclusivity rights, others say they're looking to nab some of the devs and one suggested a purchase of the whole company (not likely).

It also seems that Notch has said that he intends to keep the company independent and that if there is a buy-off he'd leave within 6 months, so I doubt that that's going to occur. Probably just talking shop about what they can get - as Notch has said in the past, they've enough money that they don't need to worry about going under for the next ten years or so and they like being independent.

Frankly, there are no confirmed details beyond that there are some talks, that the talks have been going on for a few months now and that there's nothing said about what the actual talking is about. So, you know, don't get panties twisted just yet.

I'll never change. "Me" is better than your opinion, dummy!

Pfah, I could care less, Minecraft can only get better.
Do these online petitions actually work? I see people linking them ALL THE TIME but I've never heard any stories about how a petition actually prevented anything from happening.
