EXTREMELY HARD AND ESPECIALLY DIFFICULT GAMES?

what games would all of you say are particularly hard and extremely challenging, even to rage inducing amounts. i recently went through all the SMT games I had, along with a unknown mode tales, and want to see what rpg maker games really hit difficulty well.

as silly as it sounds, and while not extremely hard, I found princess princess (the game made to be a demo of VX ace) as more challenging then like 95% of rpg maker games, even if it was only like a 3 hour game.

Soul Shepard is really tough, just off the top of my head.
Erm....I guess my own game, Illusions of Loyalty when played on the hardest mode, and if you avoid most of the encounters is pretty damn hard.

Not sure it it reaches SMT Notcturne levels of hard, considering all the horror stories that I hear about it, but it's pretty hard all the same. :P
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Soul Shepherd definitely qualifies as extremely challenging, and is very heavily inspired by the SMT series, so this sounds like it might be a perfect fit for you. You gain your power from the souls of defeated enemies, and equipping an enemy's soul gives you that enemy's stats and skills, which means that you can't just make the difficulty disappear by grinding. You have to actually defeat new enemies in order to become stronger.

Warning: Soul Shepherd was made by a guy who is also making a hardmode hack of SMT: Nocturne because he didn't think it was hard enough.

Wine & Roses is different but also quite hard. Most of Craze's games fall under this category actually; if you like Wine & Roses you should download some of the others next. He has a particular style of difficulty that I really enjoy, it revolves around recognizing enemy patterns, manipulating the effects of complex skills, and having to figure out the best order to complete your tasks in.

Labyrinth of Touhou and Labyrinth of Touhou 2 aren't RPG Maker games, nor are they hosted on this site, but they're good amateur RPGs with great difficulty, especially the second one. There's not much plot, so no knowledge of Touhou is required, beyond "Touhou takes place in a magical world filled entirely with girls in silly hats." The exploration is on a grid-like game board, so it can be kind of visually boring, it's similar to Etrian Odyssey or SMT: Strange Journey I guess.

I guess I could suggest my own game Vindication, if you play it on the harder difficulty mode? It's one of my older games though, a mostly pretty typical kind of JRPG that's made hard by severely limiting your grinding and your money. I feel awkward suggesting my own game especially since it's not super hard, though it's at least probably harder than Princess Princess. Feel free to ignore this suggestion! Try Soul Shepherd first, at least.

I can name plenty of other games that are hard only because they're horribly designed, but I assume you want ones that are both hard and balanced.
It doesn't have to be well designed, but it shouldn't be hard because of a bug or something (altho thats always fun)

I beat touhou labyrinth, yes, all 30 floors, and without cheat engine. it was a fun hell. also incase YOU didn't know, the 100% eng patch for labyrinth 2 is out, and not just a menu patch anymore.

I was on the nocturne boards cheering on the hardcore hack for nocturne, i to would also like to experience a hell within hell where the demons gather, mwhahaha~

any other game recommendations would be loved. there was one i can't find anymore, i'll maybe post for it in the rare / hard to find games section, i'll describe it here for the hell of it.

at the beginning opening (this is just a pure gameplay game by the way) there was a option for a in development story, or some other mode. the story was obviously a after thought. upon starting the main (not story mode) it asked for difficulty 1-10 and you went through floors of randomly generated with, at 10 difficulty, insanely hard enemies. your forced progresson was due to a lack of items, and needing healing items and revives, otherwise you could grind, but enemies hit so hard it wasn't really viable.

the random floors looked like they were made with the default 'make a dungeon' thing in rpg maker, also this with a rpg maker ace game. there was a boss every 3 or 5 floors, and that was it. i think you could also select how deep the dungeon was (15 floors, 30 floors, 50 floors..i don't remember)

Oh well, won't be first suggesting his own game anyway.
If you're a Metal Gear Solid-fan, there's my fangame Metal Gear Solid: Lunacy of Legion. It's more like an action-RPG. I've heard people complain about the difficulty in the past. After plenty of updates, the game is more refined. Last update included multiple difficulty settings, there also toughest being 3 steps above Normal.
As being Metal Gear Solid, that means Game Over on discovered, no rations, tougher battles, etc. But I wouldn't start on that level. The game assumes you know some things by then.

Soul Shepardis really tough, just off the top of my head.

i started that, and i now remember beating it, it was pretty fun. anything else?

i'll give it another go tho, seems it was updated with another 12 hours of content, so why not.

but i hope some really hard stuff is posted here.

for those coming in looking for hard stuff, golden sun 1/2 had a mod made called fallen star and risen star drastically increasing the difficulty, making the games 85 classes and mid battle class changing more necessary, as well as adding tons of items and moves / spells.
My game I released back in 2008, Hellucination, is ridiculously hard. I was actually working on a new version shortly after its release that fixed bugs/made it far easier/added content/modified the storyline and dialogue, but it was on an old hard drive that I lost.
It's just a demo, but Phylomortis Avant-Garde by RPG Advocate is extremely hard. The one thing I'd warn you about is that while the story isn't that bad, the dialogue (and the amount of dialogue) is a chore to get through. Making matters worse, after like 30 minutes of reading I finally got into my first battle and immediately died and had to start over. The first moment you can save, DO IT!

I've also played some of Phylomortis II (which is older than Avant-Garde), but I'm not sure what condition the current download is in (there was an attempt at a custom battle system that I think killed the project). Regardless, it also is a difficult and an intelligent game.
Blackmoon Prophecy II is being designed to have hard bosses, though I still have to refine several of the encounters to match the difficulty I intend them to have.

Well, if you like platformers, you might like a game I made called It'll Look Great On Your Résumé... people tell me it's really challenging. Kentona's Solar Platypus is another great and challenging action game.

As far as RPGs go, I'd second Wine & Roses by Craze. The battles are pretty tactic-heavy and it's overall really enjoyable.
Have a go a Seraphic Blue, and you will know just what tough is (in the Japanese aspect) :)

Most games I've made in the last 10 years are arguably this, arguably accidentally.

I also find most Crazegames hard, as mentioned.
