No it's not. It's "lew", as in being a tenant "in lieu of" the commander. It could also be "lee-ew" depending on your accent.
No it's not it's lef as the Old French spelling leuf for Modern French lieu which was around when William the Bastard Conqueror popped over for an injection of Norman phrases into Late Old/Early Middle English from 1066 onwards.
Same meaning, standing in lieu of, but Old French/Norman pronounced it with a f/v sound not a u. Truth be told Americans were still using the 'lef' pronunciation right up to and post the civil war and in some areas as late as the 1890's.

Snobby English being snobby. Pronouncing words ass backwards to how they spell them, injecting U into color, and botching simple "er" in words like somber. This is why their colonies kept revolting.
...you do realise they didn't inject 'u' or botch the 'er', but that Americans did the botching and removal instead, right?

I take it you mean Leicestershire (not the man's name Lester) since you're talking about Belvoir Castle, yes English can be a trap for the unwary. Still at least it no longer has grammatical gender, which always threw me when I was learning French and Spanish. Russian has all three doesn't it, Masculine, Feminine and Neuter? That would confuse me.

A pumpkin flavoured coffee? That's repulsive.I've never understood the need to add fruit flavours to coffee, but even if I did it would never be pumpkin.
