I meant to post about this earlier, but, as usual, other stuff got in the way XD

Descendant of Truth

Descendant of Truth is about a pilot of a prototype space-fighter vehicle who gets separated from the rest of the crew. The short demo includes a decent look at the universe the game takes place in and gives you a feel for the overall story.

I'm a little torn on this game. There's a lot of great stuff in it, and the developer has put a lot of work into scenes to make cool sci-fi effects to get you into the story. Then there are the weaker parts. The graphics, sounds, and music are all a hodgepodge from different games (and as much as I love Final Fantasy Tactics music, it doesn't really work for a space adventure, in my opinion).

Having resources pulled from all over the place isn't inherently a bad thing in my opinion, but they have to feel coherent. The oversized pixelated sprites for the scavengers don't match the sleek modified Ace RTP backgrounds in the first mission, for example. The monster that lands on your ship after you mine ore doesn't match any of the other enemy graphics. It makes the experience feel rather disjointed.

However, despite that, the developer has put in a lot of eventing work that really gives polish to scenes in the game, and feels pretty solid in that respect. Mapping is good in most areas, though I felt the planet's surface you land on seemed pretty drab, and could have used some more detail. None of the characters really grabbed me, but given that this is a short demo, I suppose with more time I might be able to get more invested. Battles were good to above average, if straightforward. I liked the Side Arm system, which kind of reminded me of Wild ARMs.

All in all this is a good start, and is impressive in a lot of areas, but with a little more work and a more consistent feel, it could really shine.

Also, to anyone who's tried or is going to try Chase for Divinity, don't feel like you have to play the whole game before giving impressions or feedback (as the game's like ten hours long, so it would take quite a while XD)

Trying Chase for Divinity is actually the one thing I've got to do yet from this comp. Maybe today or later this week.

Um...o...k...

Anyway, is the judging making progress? I noticed that I got a cheevo.
I'm almost certain I'm the slowest judge and I've got one game or so* left to play. The actual congregation of judges as a judging unit has yet to happen presumably because of slow Gourd and Libby's computer troubles.

Patience is a virtue regardless of how much longer you guys have to wait~

*I say "or so" because there are a few I haven't completely finished like Chase for Divinity and Lionheart. It would take a lot of try-hard for me to completely finish Chase for Divinity...

None of the judges should spend too much time on Chase for Divinity because A)it's a fellow judges entree, and B) it's loooooong XD
Oh. Guys, I want to make sure the latest update of my game plays okay. Can someone try to LP it? And show screenshots on whether or not it works so I can know what's going on? I don't want it to be "that game nobody was able to play." I have the RTP info included, I checked both for the flag and RTP files.

I think I'm missing some music, but battle animations, battle weapons, parallax, charsets, chipsets, titles, monsters, battle backgrounds, and system stuff all seems to be there. I'll plop the music in there then update.

I'm several hours into Chase for Divinity and I'm wondering how much longer I've got to go. Right now I'm at the part where you fight the lizard demon guy for the second time at the end of the fire dungeon.

I plan on reviewing it, so I'd like to finish it if possible. It's...not exactly got me the most compelled to keep playing ever, I'll be honest, but it's not actively making me want to quit either. It really depends on how many more hours there are to it and--unusually for a video game--I really can't tell where I am in the game from the story's context. The difficulty is definitely ramping up, and I've noticed that.

Tell me if this version still doesn't work.

What's with Chase For Divinity anyway? Essence Enforcers seemed alot more interesting.

Well, you're only about a forth of the way through at this point. If you're not feeling super compelled to continue, then I wouldn't worry about finishing it. I made most of it when I was a teenager and I wasn't so good at holding the audience XD I've already got a review on it, so I won't be offended if you decide not to finish ;)

I beg your pardon? I don't think anyone was comparing the two. Essence Enforcer is indeed awesome and interesting.

Wow, this game is massive. What's the total playtime, do you know? I wasn't like, timing myself while playing or anything but it seems like it must be in the neighborhood of 30+ Hours which is amazing for an RPG Maker game.

I'm going to go ahead and break off and write my review now. If I didn't review I'd feel like it was wasted time playing it--not that I wasn't having fun, mind you, I was just making mental notes in my head toward the review the whole time. : )

I honestly don't know the total time, as RPG Maker 2000 doesn't have a proper time-counter and I didn't think to time my playthrough ^^;; But yeah, it's a pretty huge game. Thanks for giving it a play, and I'm looking forward to seeing your review :D

Just subbed my CFD review. It should be up as soon as Solitayre gets a chance to read it, assuming the sheer weight of the text doesn't break his neck (it came out REALLY long for some reason, possibly the longest review I have ever written, I'm not entirely sure why).

Oops~ I guess we'll just have to see how much longer it takes then!

Of course, just because we judges have yet to give out our ruling doesn't mean you guys can't! I'm sure anyone would appreciate a review of their game and it'd help RMN keep its number of reviewless games down.
