We got more than 80 hours into it and still only completed the first major area of what's apparently three or four. I don't recommend the game but I would be surprised if there's any other game on this site that can rival its scope.
We?

I'm imagining a club of RMN members playing the game together now, seeing who can last the longest.

Has anyone finished playing it? =O
My dormmates and I played it collectively a few years ago to try to get through it together to see the much-lauded ending. We got to the "amazing" plot twist after fighting a boss for two hours when we had our stats hacked to level 99 with maximum everything, learned we were just finishing the prologue, and gave up.

Final Tear 3 sounds fucking awful. 80 hours and it's not over? I have a hard time caring about an RPG for half of that time.

I just downloaded Final Tear 3 thanks to this discussion. I have to experience this for myself.

To give it credit, it's rare to see a project that is so large in scope actually finished. That's some real dedication that's not common in this community.

That's the thing. There are people who are crazy enough to make 50+ hour epics. That's how devoted they are to making games, even though they don't earn anything from it.

And I am thankful for that ^^
Well, I can't argue with that. I'm amazed that they're able to complete a 50+ hour long project. That alone does deserve a lot of praise!

But it's really sad when I see people announce their magnum opus with 15 different characters, 50+ hour main storyline, 100% custom assets, and HUNDREDS OF HOURS OF SIDE QUESTS just to have reality crash down on them once they realize just how much work they have to do. They get discouraged, and decide that game making just isn't for them. If they just started small and made simple games, they can get that sort of experience to eventually tackle large projects!

(I wonder if this would apply to me at all at the current time ehehehe...).

Still though, hearing something that's like 80 hours long is kinda ridiculous in all honesty. Even I wouldn't go that far, and I'm trying to go with a standard FF length game for the main story! @_@;

Now if only it was good. I mean, people can throw 100 hours worth of shit together no problem. It's making it all worthwhile that's the trick.

In my most determined playthrough, I made it to the "blue dragon knuckle cunt" guy before I gave up. That's the second "dungeon" if I remember correctly.
Final Tear 3 baffles me. I can't fathom putting together that much content.
The two longest I've played are Mario and Luigi: The Starlight Worlds, and Manifest.

Dear God.
Man, that FinalTear guy must be a really dedicated chunk of a man! Maybe he should team up with the great XAND.

For VX, I'd actually say that my own game (Castle Oblivion 3) is probably one of the lengthiest. Most people who have beaten it finished with 50-60 hours. There was one guy who almost got up to 70 hours though!
I wonder how long the game would be if I would include (more?) side quests/optional content...

We'll send out a search party if we don't hear from you in ...a month? Let us know how far you get.

Like most people I'd take a good 8 hour game over a tiresome 80 hour one, but you do have to admire staying power.

My problem is that I don't like being on the same project for more than, say, half a decade, before I want to move on, so I don't tend to make super-long games :P

From what I hear, it's not the length but the girth of your gameplay that matters.

No. No. No. No. No. It's length times diameter plus weight over girth divided by angle of the tip squared.

([l*w] + w/g)/angle of the tip squared

Serious Answer: The only RPG Maker game of any really substantial length (30+ Hours) that I've actually played (all of) that is actually any good is Three The Hard Way. The only RPG Maker game of any really substantial length that I'm aware of (but haven't actually played much of) that is any good is Hero's Realm.

I'm sure there are others, but I'm not personally aware of them. Generally speaking, long game != good game when it comes to RM games almost to the point where they seem mutually exclusive.

Stay the fuck away from the Laxative Prowess series. I can attest it's terrible.
Master of the Wind is 30+ hours. I'm kind of happy to get my epic out of the way. Now I prefer focusing on smaller projects that allow me to explore different mechanics.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Guys. I have just written an RPG Maker VX Ace script which finds the Skyrim installation directory on the player's hard drive and runs skyrim.exe. This totally counts.
Wait wait wait, there's an RPGmaker game with an 80 hour long prologue?

...WTF? Seriously? Why?!

That sounds SO dumb. Just....Why? ;_;
I've seriously been following Final Tear 3 since the creator asked Gaming World if a game could be "too long." He then listed out some 80 planned dungeons. The general response was "it's fine if it's good and sufficiently varied" and "can't believe you'll ever finish it."

Through the years some interesting tid-bits about the game were released, including some of the puzzles, cut-scenes of the airship (which were pretty cool, honestly), some mini games (including a sweet looking roulette wheel), and some information about the battle mechanics. The videos often featured two voices, suggesting either a friend who was involved in making the game or at least as interested in it as the creator. That's probably one reason it was finished.

Two things I noted about the battle mechanics. First, they implemented a custom damage formula. I'm not entirely certain how that was accomplished, but they showed screen shots of obscene amounts of damage (like six digits) hitting bosses and spoke of millions of HP for some enemies.

They also implemented the most time consuming but brilliant custom experience curve I've seen yet. Basically they made it so that on level up you changed class, and each class can have a separate experience curve, which meant they were able to stay with the default system while having a better scaling experience curve. Coding all that out must have taken some serious dedication.

For my own part, I've tried playing both FT2 and FT3 without enjoying either much. But I'm still very interested and impressed with the game itself. There are some seriously unique qualities to the game.

Given what I just said above, I'm wondering if your hack was unsuccessful, as it most likely would have been based upon standard stats rather than whatever crazy hack they tried to implement. Maybe not.
