360 OR PS3?
Posts
O.K. guys I've been at this for a while now....
I'm saving up for either a $300 Xbox 360 Pro or a $400 40 GB PS3.... but I can't decide which, and I want your guyzes help on this. Which system has overall better games (I can't play M-rated games, though) or features? I'd be able to link my PS3 with my PSP, which would be sweet for accessing the Playstation Store without my PC, among other things. But the 360 is having a number of RPG's released later this year (read the latest EGM). Final Fantasy XIII is being released on both, so I don't have to worry about that.... So is Rock Band. But I wouldn't be able to play the Ratchet and Clank games or the upcoming Jak IV. Seriously, I know half of you are probably bias, but I want your take on it.
Oh, and I already have all 3 last gens sysytems (GameCube, Xbox, and PS2) plus a Wii.

360 hands down. It has the better released games AND it has a better upcoming releases schedule.
Plus, Rock Band 2 has an exclusive early release on 360.

Mmmmmmmm, Rock Band 2.
Get a 360, much better. So man people complain that PS3 is better due to free online pay, but for $60 a year, you are getting a much better online system than the PS3. Go with 360.

360. I say the PS3 is a waste of money until they fix its problems.
Also just in case, if you get the 360 I advise getting an external cooling system for like $20. I know the red ring of seath isnt as common as it once was but you never know.

Problems? What problems? Anyway, I have to say that the 360 does have a good lineup of games at the moment, but so does the PS3, and you can play every PS1 and PS2 game you have too. And if you buy the PS3 its good for alot more things than just games (blue-ray dvd player, musicplayer, good image editing, good online gameplay and browsing), plus I went through with my idea to install windows XP on it and its going to be along time before I have to worry about PC hardware specs. If you do buy a PS3, you also need to find a liquid nitrogen cooling tube since it does make more heat then the heaters in my house, and that just sucks in the summer.
Well, he already has a PS2, and the PS3 library ...well, sucks. All the good games for it are cross-platform.
360 has all the good games?
What about Uncharted, MGS4, Ratchet and Clank, Warhawk and Resistance: Fall of Man? Not to mention the upcoming Resistance 2, FFXIII Versus, Infamous, and
LittleBigPlanet.
Those are only the disc games. There's plenty of well reviewed indy games on the store like PixelJunk Monsters, Pixel Junk Eden, Siren: Bloodcurse, Blastzone, Tekken: Dark Ressurection.
Point being, there are lots of good games coming out for PS3 and lots that are already out.
That said, the 360 is a solid choice and a good platform, but to drag the PS3 through the mud and say its crap is just plain ignorance and fanboy-ism.
How to buy a console:
1) Compare Exclusives
2) Compare extra features
3) Compare DLC
4) Compare grpahics
5) Buy.
How not to buy a console
1) Ask the internet directly.
Asking which console to buy isn't going to get you any helpful answers because you'll get a ton of biased answers from both side. Really you need to do the research yourself. It's the only way you'll be happy.
If you're worried about hardware failure, don't. The 360 has been good since the latest revision and the PS3 has never had any issues. Choose one to fit your needs.

author=Ryethe link=topic=1679.msg26745#msg26745 date=1218159143I beg to differ! My Playstation 3 had to be replaced because of this little error the Blue Ray drive got as in.. It couldn't read them. It's not as common as say RROD but it's their.

Also you forget Xbox Live Arcade.. N+ is fucken awesome!
I myself have not bought any next gen consoles, mainly because I haven't been interested. However, if I were to be put at gun point... based off of friends house experiences and small time research, I'd go with the 360.

On the 360.
What console you buy depends on what kinds of games you want to play. I only own a 360 so I'll speak on that regarding the ups and downs.
First and foremost, it has the best library of games depending on who you ask (see: largest) and reportedly a good support team. Many Xbox 360 titles seem to end up on the PC however, so if you have a good gaming rig you'll always have the option to play the more popular console titles on your PC instead. In terms of game genres, Microsoft's console is strong in the FPS category, but this generation also has a good amount of RPGs, making it a good choice for enthusiasts of either the western or jRPG variety. The online service is reportedly better than the PSN, but they will largely even out over time, so don't make any assumptions. Though the online service for the 360 offers a free and paid version, it's probably the best online gaming you can get that isn't on the PC. The console also is able to stream music directly from your PC to your stereo system, which is great and convenient, as you don't have to transfer any data.
Issues: If you need wireless connections for the Xbox 360 you have to buy an external adapter. If you want to play HDDVD (why would you now that the format wars are over) you need an external adapter. If you want to plug in your controllers to the USB ports to recharge them you need an add on. Apparently their wireless devices aren't bluetooth, so that means Microsoft can develop even more proprietary hardware for the console giving the consumer few alternatives. The hard drives are a proprietary feature as well that is severely overpriced for their size. The Xbox 360 also has a 16% failure rate, which is abnormally high. Microsoft also thinks they are doing the world a favor by assuming everything you'll want to transfer to your console hard drive is pirated, so good luck getting mp3s on it if you don't have your original cds handy.

And that's perfectly fine. However, many people are interested in them. The original poster may or may not be (we don't know) and you aren't. To base the original poster's interests off yours won't necessarily help him make the right choice.
Sadly it seems that most RPGs are coming to the 360 (which is stunning really when you consider the install base in Japan). PS3 owners get FFXIII Versus, Valkyria Chronicles and White Knight Story. 360 owners get/have Lost Oddessey, Blue Dragon, Infinite Undiscovery, SO3, and Tales of Vesperia (the rest are multi-platform titles), plus a few more if you don't have a PC. Other than that the reset are cross platform titles.
I myself am considering a 360 but not until the Sept. price drop to 199 for the arcade :)

P.S. Holb: Hi to you too.
The problem with those RPGs, Ryethe, is that only Valkyria Chronicles has an actual release date, whereas many of the 360 games you listed are released or will be released before Valkyria Chronicles.
Also, I wouldn't hold on TOO much hope for FFXIII versus remaining exclusive after the last Squenix announcement. And to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised about an SO4 PS3 release down the line.

Apparently Tri-Ace prefer working with the 360 and that's mainly why both their games are on the 360.. Or something like that.
Man you forgot Fable 2 & Mass Effect, Cryon(Mistwalkers new game) and I think one other. . Folklore that's it for the PS3. Oh yeah Eternal Sonata is only coming to the PS3 in Japan if that makes any difference?
And yeah Karsuman is right. Although they do have games coming they are either delayed or just to far away to get excited about.

Thanks for Fable 2 and Cryon. I forgot about those. Mass Effect appears on PC as well so I didn't include it as an exclusive (aka reason to buy a 360).
I wouldn't count Folklore as an RPG unless you count Zelda as an RPG. It's much closer to Zelda IMO than Pokemon.
I really hope PS3 doesn't become N64 2.0 with their lack of RPGs.

It's funny though because even though the XBOX360 has more RPGs there's none to really sway me to buy it. I've mainly just been stocking up on PS2 RPGs. This really isn't the generation for JRPGs so far for any console.
