Well, then, you have two other choices:

1) Do nothing. Leave the minimum wage where it is, even though it's not nearly worth as much as it was because of inflation and price increases on food, gas and housing.

2) Get rid of the minimum wage entirely. Free market, maybe! $3.00 an hour Wal-Mart wages!

Yeah, those two don't sound good either.

You need to keep in mind, Holbert, that the people who don't want the minimum wage to go up generally make more than minimum wage themselves. Arguing to them that they need to think about the people who don't is like arguing to people who have no health insurance that they should think about how the quality of medical service will go down for people that do if we switched over to socialized medicine. My grandfather constantly makes that complaint to me, and my only response is "Do you know how long it's been since I've seen a dentist?"
