FINAL FANTASY GENESIS
Posts
Hey! Many people have asked about some flaws in this. In an attempt to stop them (some have been pretty extreme about it), here's a quick little TLDR. Just like many other threads on here, I am asking for help to develop this game. Because I lack sufficient skills in RPGMakerVX, I am not able to actually make the game. I want to develop it conceptually more, and then maybe create it, but not in the near future. Now please stop criticizing me for the "flaws" in the post!

Welcome!
I know there are many talented minds on here willing to contribute to others. Unfortunately, some of those minds are selfish and want others to help them out, like me. :'( However, if those selfish people didn't exist, projects wouldn't get started. And so, like Uncle Sam says, I want you!
What is Final Fantasy Genesis?
Final Fantasy Genesis is a fan-made Final Fantasy game that I have been creating in my head for quite a long time now. Even though it would be nice for it to be a reality, I don't intend on it being an actual, playable game... yet! From past experience, coming on here and asking "Hey help me create this game for me" won't get you many replies. My creativity lies in concept creating, but not handiwork. I can imagine and develop a beautiful painting in my head, but unfortunately, I can't paint it on a real canvas. Final Fantasy Genesis will be conceptual for the most part, and there is a specific way I like to create video games...
How is Final Fantasy Genesis "Drawn"?
You know how I said I can imagine a gorgeously complex picture but I can't draw it, right? Well, then you might ask how can I even get it out of my head at all? Well, what I CAN do is my best effort only, because that's all I can do. There is a way I create video games that I feel is creative and fun: a walkthrough! You know, like those walkthroughs on gamefaqs. Even though they are guides, they are also technically records of every piece of information about the game. They aren't beautiful pictures that require a steady hand and a lot of skill, they're just creatively organized information storages.
How can I help?
How can you help? Since this is conceptual, I don't require skill and huge effort at all. In fact, even just general feedback is a good contribution, though not satisfactory for what I want. Then again, who cares what I want? xD What my selfish self is expecting is just us discussing the game through this website's private messaging, and that's pretty much it! However, if there is any way you can contribute in a way larger than that, that would be AMAZING! Wait... why would you help if you know absolutely nothing about Final Fantasy Genesis?
About Final Fantasy Genesis
Final Fantasy Genesis incorporates many elements from the SNES Final Fantasy games, except with updated graphics and a new battle system that I like to describe as a mixture between the regular ATB turn-based aspect of the SNES Final Fantasies mixed with the command chain system of Final Fantasy XIII. The plot, however, is not very developed, which leaves so much room for your creative help! But, I will tell you as much as I can.
Final Fantasy Genesis takes place in a world with technological settings in between Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII's technological settings. The world is ruled by a benevolent theocracy, Creed, who worships 8 "gods", who are named after espers/summons of the main Final Fantasy Games. Throughout the world are the 8 "graces", each reminiscent to those "gods", which are pretty much centers of their activities and stuff like that. They are mainly inspired off of the garden's from Final Fantasy VIII, especially Balamb garden, in which they look like Christmas ornaments. Going against the ideals of the other Final Fantasy games, magic is highly illegal in Creed law. However, there is a rebellion force, the Order of the Raven, known for their feathery red capes, who believe that that the gods that Creed runs on are false, and are lead by the self-proclaimed "goddess" Mariora, who is highly skilled in magic. Like any good Final Fantasy games, there is a set of characters, even though this list is incomplete:
1. Lupin Essenkes
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Weapon: Lance
Look: Has Mako's hairstyle from the legend of Korra, wears a long thin sky blue jacket with a black shirt underneath and the collar unfolded, brown boots, black athletic pants, and brown gloves
Personality: (too) serious, shows courage but is really afraid, very loyal, hostile
About: Lupin is the general of the Lanter's Grace branch of Creed's army, Crusade
2. Roy Gatillo
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Weapon: Twin Pistols
Look: don't know yet :)
Personality: humorous, lazy, complains a lot, reliable friend
About: All I know about him is that he's Lupin's best friend and also his military partner
3. Elius (Wren Creine III)
Gender: Male
Age: 12
Weapon: Big Sword
Look: don't know
Personality: arrogant, control freak, strict, much more mature for his age
About: Even though he is 12 years old, he initially presents himself as "Elius". Later on he's revealed to be Wren Creine III, the high general of Crusade (pretty much the most important military leader). He is a child prodigy, a tactical genius, and though he isn't strong and muscly, his small stature makes him very nimble.
And for now, that's all I have. :(
So... now what?
Well, now, you should give me your feedback! If you would like to help, allyou have to do is private message me, simple!
Thank You very much and Have a Great Day!

so, what? You want feedback on the story? Why did you put this in the job board instead of the game dev one? Also, why in hell would people discuss this through PMs when there's a thread for it?

First of all, not an appropriate tone. :( Second of all, discussing it it here is mainly for feedback, but through PMs is where you would want to actually help develop it. Simple as that.
I don't mean to offend, but as someone who makes games, the idea of working on a project that won't ever be turned into a proper game isn't really appealing to me.
Do you feel like making actual games is something that's beyond you? If it's something you want to do, I bet you'd be surprised at what you can do if you start out small and make a simple game and work up from there ^_^

I never said it wouldn't be turned into a proper game. :) I just don't have the talent to make it so yet and I don't have the money to get that kind of help.
Ah. After I saw "I don't intend on it being an actual, playable game," I kinda got that impression and skimmed the rest :P My bad!

ok haha well thanks anyways. I'll try to get more into rpg maker. I'm just lazy lol. I've tried making maps before but the tilesets aren't satisfactory for me. :(

My tone is entirely appropriate for someone who has to deal with people posting badly worded/presented topics in the wrong areas and not being made clear what, exactly, the purpose of said thread is because of the way it was written up and where it was posted making it sound like an advertisement (which is against the rules of the site.)
Go read some of the rules, please, and stop acting like you have the right to tell people how they may and may not talk, what tone they are allowed to use or any other way of backseat policing that you decide to pull. That's my job and the job of the other staff, not yours.
Also, again, PMing is a bad way of communicating and discussing things like this - try one of the many, many, many chat programs out there instead. Hell, when you get a game page up and accepted you can have your own little personal pages where only people you add can see the discussion. PMs are a bit too unwieldy especially when you have more than a few people in on the discussion. They're more for one-on-one communication than communicating to groups.
There are so many things I want to say here, but I just don't know where to begin! I'm bewildered that you would be asking for help in such an open-ended way and stating off the bat that you don't intend for it to be an actual playable game. People want to follow and help somebody who looks like a leader and like they have their stuff together. Be a leader and be more commanding in your rhetoric, revise this post. If your own words don't inspire you just a bit afterward, then consider that maybe this wasn't such a good idea.
Edit: Revised my post to be more sensitive toward younger members + Craze. Craze, I am sure your taste in ~Free!~fan art is exceptional. :D

My word! Darling, please calm down. :D you're being angry for all the wrong reasons. I never wanted to make you mad, and it seems like you're venting off on me. Saying that my topic is "badly worded" is deeply offending and based off opinion, which is the completely wrong thing to do if that's your job. Unity, who has also questioned me in this thread, dealt with it in a much more respectable way.
author=Sated3. Elius (Wren Creine III)Is a "big sword" for a 12-year old actually just a normal sword that looks big in their hands because they themselves are quite small?

And besides, why the hell would someone who "isn't strong and muscly " use a "big sword" when the fact that they're "very nimble" makes a smaller weapon much more appropriate. If they're such a "tactical genius" then they'd know not to use the wrong weapon for their body-type!
Same with you, you're feeling completely unnecessary emotions and are treating me as if I am an idiot, which I find deeply offending. You don't have to be muscly to carry a large sword.

People dont like Dictators either, and I'm not a dictator. I will revise my post saying that I don't want it to be playable anytime SOON, but not to such an exaggerated extent.

1 - Respect is earned, not just given. Your way of acting in the past and now has depleted what respect I may have had for you.
2 - Re-read my post. I didn't say this post was badly worded - I was talking about posts in general - however it could be made clearer what you wanted and is ambiguous. Initially it sounded like a 'Help me I am new to RM and want to get people to make my game for me' which, again, I didn't say this thread was, but that it made it hard to tell if it was or was not that kind of thread initially due to how you worded your 'request' and didn't make it clear. Oh, and the posting of it in the wrong forum.
I see a lot of threads like that. There's a reason I moved this thread instead of giving you a warning about editing it to fit the proper requirements of such a thing. Silly me, thinking you'd think to add more clarity when it was pointed out that it was confusing what the fuck the thread was even about.
3 - Never, ever, call someone Darling when you do not know them well. It is patronising to the extreme and you come off as a complete arse when you do it. Especially as a way to shut a person up, regardless of gender.
4 - You don't know the site rules (obviously) and you don't get to say how other people react to you. The way you act holier-than-thou towards anyone with any tone that isn't ardent admiration or niceness (like unity who is a wonderful person full of light and lovely~<3) is condescending. It's your right to talk that way but when people get pissed about it, it's their right to call you out on it and react within the boundaries of site rules.
5 - We allow swearing, language, annoyed and angry tones on this site. As long as people don't actually insult each other. Most of us are adults or of older teen age and thus we staff understand that people will clash and that they will argue. We allow that. You are not in charge of the site so you are not the one to say if someone goes over the boundaries or not. If you do think someone is, though, you are free to report them and staff will deal with it. Not you.

I admit to not reading all of the opening post, but, it confuses the hell out of me. With the "How is Final Fantasy Genesis 'Drawn'" section, you speak of writing a walkthrough/guide/what-have-you, but then, with the "About Final Fantasy Genesis" section, you start speaking of battle systems?
Either I'm really dumb/slow/dense/whatever, or these things do not to add up in my head, thus, I have no clue what you are actually asking for.

2-In general? That's even worse! :(
3-This point is just Judgment. Calling someone darling is extra sass.
4-Further Judgment and assumptions.
5-You can contain it, but you shouldn't cause it.

apparently this topic advertising a game isn't an game advertisement? whatever. I guess I'll unlock it for now.

so, on topic, what are you actually looking for, game-design-wise? it is not clear from your OP what you are actually after. Because it looks to me like this is just a game description and it doesn't look like you are asking for help designing anything specific.

I suppose the logical train of thought is that to be able to write a walkthrough for a game, there needs to be a game to write a walkthrough for.
Anyway, wanting to use a mixture of traditional ATB and the ability to chain commands as in Final Fantasy XIII is one thing, but, I assume there are other systems from the Final Fantasy series that you want to use for your game, in some way, shape, or form. For instance, by what method, or methods, are available for players to learn skills for their characters? Are there limit breaks, or skills like them? Under what conditions can they be activated?
*Edit:
This is rather irksome to read. Just how far along in development on this project are you?
*Edit2: I'm sorry if I'm beginning to sound suspicious about the nature of this request.

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

People are asking you for clarifications and all you're writing in response is "If you read it, it'll make sense." There are people here who are willing to help you improve your game design out of the goodness of their hearts, despite you giving nothing in return (you're not even giving us a game, apparently?), but not if you don't engage fully with them and talk through your problems and issues in detail.

Well its true. They admitted themselves that they didn't even read it completely. The point of words are to read them, not to skip over them, but humans are lazy, and I can understand that.
I'm not giving you a game apparently? 3xcuse me, do you know how difficult that is?

Well I'm nit sure I want thread to exist anymore, since all people have done here is whine about the natural flaws of the topic and going on abiit them. Seriously, give me a break! Anyways, it's OK, you definitely aren't the first... at least you have the decency to apologize and be modest.
Now to answer your quesion about the battle system.
Characters have ATB gauges right? Well, once it is a characters' turn, they'll have a limited amount of times to enter commands in to a Ff13 chain. once you confirm the commands, or when time runs out, your turn ends and you will execute the commands. Since you're on a time limit, there will be ways to easily access certain abilities so you don't have to scroll through 500 menus to get to the ability you want. I was planning on something like limit breaks, but I'm still unsure about it. Each character also has a nix grid with slots wjere they can equip abilities, kind of like materia in ff7. Charcaters also have their own unique abilities that they gain as they level up.
