MARIO OR SONIC: WHO TRIUMPHS?

It needed to be asked: Mario or Sonic, who's the best? Tell who you think is better and why. I invite your biased, or analytical, opinions here!

Personally, I'm going to be biased and say, 'Mario'. All for good reasons!

Number One: He is an extremely unique hero in a creative world. Even the story about how he got to the Mushroom Kingdom was fabulous!

Number Two: Despite being your ordinary, everyday plumber, he is able to destroy a giant, monstrous turtle, and his evil army, and save an entire kingdom, with only the help of his brother.

Number Three: He teaches us that mushrooms are good for you (similar to Pop-Eye and his spinach).

Number Four: He is flexible, and capable of using various different objects and power-ups without having to first learn how they work.

Number Five: He can leap higher than frog, and almost everyone in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Number Six: He is nice and enjoys socializing with the locals and helping them with their problems (bravo for caring!).

Number Seven: He is extremely agile, despite his weight, and, depending on the day, he is able to breathe underwater.

Number Eight: (My last point, until I can think up some more) His magnificent moustache. He joins the rank of the few people whose facial hair has as much fame as they do.

Mario, because the Mario series is actually good.
Sonic would win a fight against Mario according to an analysis of both characters' power and abilities:

SONIC

1. He's a very unique hero in a creative world.

2. Despite being a hedgehog wearing sneakers, he's able to defeat a mad scientist and his army of robotic minions.

3. He teaches us that monitors are good for us.

4. He is flexible, and capable of using various different objects and power-ups without having to first learn how they work.

5. He can run faster than cheetah, and everybody else on Mobius.

6. He is nice and enjoys showing off his coolness to the locals. Of course, he's also always willing to lend a hand if needed.

7. He is extremely agile, despite being a tiny hedgehog, and, depending on the amount of rings he's holding and Chaos Emeralds he's got in possession, able to transform into invincible Super Sonic (gotta go Super Saiyan!!)

8. (My last point, until I can think up some more) His awesome sneakers. He joins the rank of the few characters whose shoes have as much fame as they do.
Yup - neither character has a powerup that the other one doesn't have an answer for (including a short-lived invincibility boon), with Sonic being ahead of Mario in Speed and having spikes to hit things with, Mario instead lacking a major strength (only being rather average in power, speed, durability, energy projection etc.)

Gotta go Fast

Although I'd say Sonic > Mario, I still think Sonic Games < Mario Games.
Somehow I can't take stuff like this seriously.
Kirby wins. No arguments.

I love them both, and if these two ever did do battle, it would be a trick on Dr. Eggman's part. Bowser would have of course been pulled into the scheme via some backstabbing ploy, and Eggman would end up facing Mario and Sonic at the same time, now with a Super Bowser that has been roboticised and placed under the evil Robotnik's control! With a Chaos Emerald in use, of course.
Mario and Sonic would combine their power ups to become Super Sonic, and Super Mario (Invincibility and uh, Fire Flower?). They'd tag-team the epic boss with some bad alt rock jamming in the background, and Robotnik's plan to roboticize the Mushroom Kingdom would be foiled.
Mario would get a kiss from Princess Peach, and Sonic would comically be chased back into his own world by Amy. The End.

When was his name changed to Eggman? Dr. Robotnic sounds much better.
And I believe this is the name used in both the cartoon series from the 90s as well as Sonic 1-3 on the Genesis.

It's always been Eggman in Japanese, but localisation turned him into Robotnik. I believe with the release of the Adventure games they stopped using Robotnik for him.

Robotnik sounds way cooler, though. :)

They still do call him Dr. Robotnik, but he goes by Eggman. In Adventure he is still trying to build Robotnikland. I think that Sonic and Tails called him Dr. Eggman so much (in the NA localization) that he snapped and adopted it as his name. Lol...
On the Sega Game Gear's Sonic Drift 2's instruction manual they refer to him as both Eggman and Robotnik, iirc.
Then in Sonic Adventure 2, Robotnik's relative was responsible for the end boss. I think. Or Shadow the Hedgehog. I forget. It's all such a blur. So the name Eggman is a nickname over on NA, and likely his actual name in Japan?

After some searchin', looks like the former head of Sonic Team said Robotnik is his real name, and Dr Eggman is a nickname. The ambiguity of his name throughout the series leads me to not really care, because he is sort of just 'Eggman' now. Which is cool too in a way. He gave us Metal Sonic, so there's something okay about ol' Eggbutt.

Yes. In fact, Kirby wins against anyone.
Mario < Sonic < Luigi < Supersonic < Mario + Luigi
I really like interchanging Bowser with Eggman.
How does Kirby win, though? All he does is copy his opponent's powers?
Doesn't Kirby have to be relatively close to someone to suck them in?

Mario games have good design.
Sonic games have bad design.
Kirby games have boring design.

None of that matters, as long as it's fun. And they're all fun.

Are we talking about the games or the characters?

-Warp Star allows him to move faster than light
-He can create them at will as needed
-Even on ground, he's capable of dealing with super-fast opponents like Meta Knight
-His Star Rod left a huge crater after destroying Dark Matter
-Hypernova lets him absorb gigantic death lasers and oneshot a planet-sized Sectonia
-When it exploded all over Dreamland, he wasn't hurt even in the slightest
-He can get abilities via copy essence plus, enemies, some projectiles and carriable ability trophies, which are diverse and powerful
