It changes nothing. I don't see a point in voting, I really don't. The same shit just happens every four years, and the world is going to hell in a handcart.

It won't matter in the end.
I know right? I mean it's not like different presidents can have different impact on a country. Just look at Bush, he led the country to glory just like Clinton and all the rest; they even all look the same. Hell, why bother having an election; let's just skip the hassle and stick with Bush since every one of them are the same anyway.

No.

Suzu: So, write in a candidate. I kinda sorta see your point in that the two parties are insolvent and far too similar, but that still doesn't even come close to justifying that ambivalent attitude toward a right as precious as voting.

Wow, uh, I know it's just your opinion, and it doesn't make you a bad person or anything, but you're pretty politically ignorant!

but I really don't care what happens about this petty little four year cycle. It changes nothing. I don't see a point in voting, I really don't. The same shit just happens every four years,

False, false, false!

It just feels the same. It really does for me. I know about what Bush did, and the man should hang for it. I don't quite understand why people HAVEN'T done it yet, and I don't remember the Clinton years whatsoever - I'm only 22, remember. That's not an excuse, I realize it

I know the whole drill about how important voting is. Both of my parents were in the military, both became incredibly messed up over it - combat vets, you see. I got that drill about how they fought for my right to vote for ages, and I used to think it mattered. Then I saw how many of my friends voted against Bush when I was in college and the "bad man" STILL got in, through cheating or whatever else it may have been. I felt as if it had gone to waste.

I might write in a candidate, but it certainly wouldn't be anyone that actually exists. Anyone that is in the running for presidency is probably too crooked to take care of the office properly anyway.

I may be ignorant, sure. I'll give you that. I have lost faith in politics. And in most everything else.
Well, you can either take the 'Everything's gone down the drain and everything's too screwed to do anything approach' and never try to fix it and remain ignorant about the situation and be forever apathetic (read; worthless to greater society), or you can can at least try and do what you can to make the world better place for you and your kid.

Yeah, I had lost faith in this country for a little bit after Bush stole the first election (an event that will forever be looked at as highly dubious at best in the history books), but then I remembered that I live in a swing state, so my vote actually does matter.

Sorry New Yorkers and Texans, neener neener!

But more importantly, the only thing needed for evil to thrive is for good men to do nothing. You're an example of a population with a broken will. (Easier to control and govern)

There is a difference. Even though nothing will change drastically, there is a difference.
Having lost faith in the goverment of America (its just not the same thing as are founding fathers meant it to be, specifically most of the people in it), and I do not have the money yet to buy my chosen Pacific Island and start a micronation, I have decided to move to Canada and vote for the Marijuana Party. I'll need plenty of guns and bulletproof walls as it will probably devolve into an anarchy if they're elected though.

xD Well, when you think about it, guns are controlled up there, right? Wouldn't you just have to worry about life slowing down and nothing major being done? Maybe one of the parlament guys stands up to make a speech and all he says is he's got the munchies... I would vote for that, out of sheer curiosity for what could happen. If there were a party supportin' the legalization of weed in the states, I'd probably just shove my vote there. I mean... what's the worst it could do, make me not feel anymore pain and actually want to eat for a change? Now that's a significant difference!

I know, I'm treating this really lightly. Excuse me, I don't mean to offend... too badly.

After dwelling on it a day or so, I realize that I might as well slap my vote on Obama. *imagines taking a giant checkmark and slapping Obama upside the head with it* For one, I might get something out of it - maybe a free cookie or something. That's worth bothering. Two, I'd rather see an upbeat guy in office that spouts something about hope and change than a guy who looks like he's ten seconds away from a heart attack and the lady behind him that doesn't like teaching sex-ed in schools (and supports hunting all the wildlife) just ruins the entire show. I like Obama's positivity, but I don't know enough about the man - and I hardly care to really research it, honestly - to put my total trust in him. I'll say that about any politician, really. But I'm much closer to trusting the younger guy than I am the crusty old one.

There.
That's a step. I think that it's really worth getting more informed and making an opinion about politics, suzuricho. If not for yourself, realize that your kid is going to grow up in a world with officials elected by you. Think about what kind of leadership your child is going to grow up in.
When we found out the candidates it looked like it was going to be an interesting race. Three candidates running to make history.

Hillary Clinton as first female president. One down, now who will make history?

Obama as first half black president.

McCain as the first president to die of old age while in office this millennium

Pretty sure McCain won't be the first president to die of old age, unless you don't count the illnesses that come with old age as dying of old age.

FDR and William Henry Harrison come to mind.
William Henry Harrison. He died of old age, in office.

Edit: Gah! you edited while I dawdled on AIM!

Don't count out McCain just yet. This is the final sprint, if you want Obama to win, and you live in the following states:

Pennsylvania
Ohio
Florida
Virginia
North Carolina

For God's sake do everything you can to get your friends/family to vote on Nov 4! If we get sloppy in the last week, it's over!

DEATH OR OBAMA.
The dude that's 22 sounds like he's never had faith in politics or taken time to understand politics.

The illusion that nothing changes is due to people only seeing the one change and assume that it was inevitable and bound to happen and they "like totally can't imagine anything else of happening". Or I guess there's the Orwellian option that they've forgotten that things were any different.

If you want to give a shit, educate yourself. If you want to wallow in your own apathy and cuddle up with your anomie, it's not a big deal. When people say "the ignorant masses" they have to be referring to someone.
