AMERICAN ELECTIONS '08

What does it mean to say "not ready for a black president"? I really don't understand that phrase. Why does one have to make oneself "ready" for a black president? How is it different from any other president?
Like, do you have to prepare for the fact that he's a good basketball player or something? </stereotype>

I'm anxious to see how this turns out. Electing the first African American United States president is exciting stuff! ;)
I wonder how he'll do in office, though? ???

Obviously America is ready for a black president, because he won.
I'm not going to point fingers, but it almost sounds like veiled racism. I hope that I am wrong, Pantsman.

Where are you from, Oklahoma?
Nope, I'm from washington, Why would where I live matter. I just don't agree with the ideas obama does, I do believe more in the idea's of McCain, but i wouldn't want either in office. One because McCain is just to damn old, and I don't think all of the U.S. is ready a Black president.
hey can i punch you in the face a few times
Seriously explain yourself.

America has proven it is ready for a black President, though perhaps you aren't.

That's the truth.

That was an incredibly racist thing to say. One doesn't "prepare" for a president of another ethnicity, after all. You feel you have to endure or something? Why don't you just go ahead and start wearing white robes and a cone-shaped hood with eye-holes cut out already?
McCain HAD no ideas. Better still, how about you tell me exactly what ideas he had that you know so much about? I bet you don't know a single one, just like the rest of America.
Go on, you can recite his ideas while I wait for you to get in your ghost costume for lynch night.

Dude. You take other peoples' ideas and bring them to the radical extremes. I've noticed them because I've seen you do this to me and I myself do it too.
Also, guys...
Think about this. Obama's grandmother was "afraid" of African Americans people but she loved her grandson dearly. When Obama was about 12, his grandfather revealed that his grandmother was a racist (which crused Obama.)
A lot of "racist" people voted for Obama, because they generally dislike the race as a whole, not the individuals themselves. (This is how I feel towards Japanese people.)
Killing Obama would most likely create a lot of African-American-sympathy all over the U.S. This is just a personal speculation. I mean, the African Americans have just won their great victory. His assassination would probably make most people feel sorry for these amazing people who have risen up against oppression. As I would.
Killing him because he's black falls into the category of a hate crime. The term "hate crime" has very distinct borders (doing something against someone because of their ethnicity, gender, etc.), but "racist" has very, very vague borders (it's subjective.) I consider anyone who isn't racially "colorblind" (doesn't take race into account) racist. This includes myself as being racist, and almost everyone else I know. So yeah, calling someone a racist is a very loose term! (I keep thinking about that Avenue Q song... everyone's a little bit raciiiist, today...)
(I only talked about hate crimes because some kid at my school was rumored to be cited for a hame crime due to him dressing up as border patrol. And we have a good amount of Latinos in our school.)
EDIT: Er, the point I'm getting at is that being a "racist" is not necessarily a bad thing. However, committing "hate crimes" is.
Well, saying America isn't ready for a Black President is definitely in the category of "Ignorant verbal diarrhea" and thus you get the answer you get.
Your post didn't make sense, either. Maybe the youth of America isn't ready for smart conversations? I have noticed a profound lack of intelligence in the 14-16 age range around here...

Trying to justify racism is retarded.
Also, Asa, cool down a bit; let's wait to see if he explains himself - if he does.

What I'm saying is:
You're calling him a racist.
I'm saying there's nothing inherently wrong with being a racist, unless you commit hate crimes.
What you did is generalize all racists as committers of "hate crimes," by saying that he might as well don his KKK uniform.
I'm also saying that "racist" is a subjective term. I consider nearly everyone to be racist (including myself) although other people might not define it in the same way.
I also said that racists may hate/dislike/fear a race as a whole, but not it's individuals.
EDIT: You also just stereotyped an entire age range.

No, it isn't okay to negatively stereotype entire races of people into neat little convenient boxes for your own paranoid reasons and act on them passive aggressively, that's pretty wrong, sorry!
More or less what Feld said. ;)
Aint gonna argue with you... because I promised someone i'd be nice, heh heh.

You didn't get what I said! I'm not saying it's good or right to be racist. What I'm saying is that "racism" is a very loose term and that's not necessarily inherently wrong. I myself consider taking race/ethnicity into account when doing anything is racist (not being racially "colorblind.") I consider even voting for Obama because you are African American to be racist.
This is a quote from Obama:
Obama admits that his grandmother was racist, but she still loved him dearly. Her racism wasn't "wrong," it was probably just part of the way she was brought up.
Also just saying "no you're not right" isn't a valid argument. I've had to face a shit-ton of racism in my life because I'm Chinese and I'm sick and fucking tired of it.
EDIT:
Arguing in itself isn't a "mean" thing to do. I post here specifically to discuss and argue my points. Otherwise I'd just stay at GW. (Smaller community is better for discussion.)
This is a quote from Obama:
I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother - a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.("him" in the first sentence refers to Jeremiah Wright.)

Nope. Not falling for the bait, no matter how juicy! 8)
You're right, kid. You're absolutely right, and may the next big musical inspire more deep thoughts about important subjects.
Did you know revenge is ok? So is killing your wife! Sweeny Todd taught me so!

Yeah, Azn, stay in school a few more years. Your pseudo-intellectualism is even more baffling here than your thoughts on socialism and capitalism.
Don't worry guys, I'm not complaining anymore. I'll watch and see how Obama does, and if I feel like he's actually doing a good job, I'll admit that I was wrong in wanting McCain in office. Maybe Obama will do a good job, which of course I hope so, but eh, that remains to be seen.
@Holbert: Haha, you'd ban me for having different political views?
@Pantsman: Yeah, that was a pretty racist comment, and pretty much everyone was right with their replies.
