MY SCREENSHOT IS BIGGER THAN YOURS!

Hey ocean, I hate the second way and far, far, far prefer the first screenshot, where there actually is a background and not half background and half wierd black stuff.
That's just my two cents.

You could always just move them over two pixels in the actual battlechar. If that's not possible, you could make them battle animations and set their battlechar graphics that way.I think I started with manual placement but I forget what issue I had with it. I thought it'd be simple too since there were only 6 PCs, but maybe it wasn't? I dunno, I just remember something being a problem with it. I think I'll do the 2 pixel moving thing first if I have space, and if that doesn't work, maybe go with battle animations (which would also be nice for having them actually move up when using a skill). I'll check my options when I get home.
The 'terrain grid' only works if you are on that specific terrain and automatic battlechar placing is on (set in battle layout, iirc). That might be your problem. Another solution would be to turn off automatic placement and just set all heros normally--shouldn't be too terrible since you have consistently sized battlebacks and only six PCs to place (the four bodyguards and those two woodies).
Hey ocean, I hate the second way and far, far, far prefer the first screenshot, where there actually is a background and not half background and half wierd black stuff.I don't mind either, and I've had others say they liked the first one too. The second one is more early FF nostalgia. In any case, I'll make the other battlebackgrounds like the first one and then decide from there. Or maybe I could just make a majority vote thing somewhere, and base the results off of that. Again, I like both so either way I'm fine with it.

Definitely showcasing functionality more than PRETTY PICTURES, but I've implemented the idea that someone (I think Asalieri) suggested; including one-shot scrolls to provide a temporary boost to any character's versatility, and more strategic depth.
If you look really hard you can see a new map behind the shop menu, though!
Max: That is terrific. Not only will it help enhance the strategy in battles (Yalexander really doesn't do much besides tie himself to mortal coil and then LOLDRAINHP), it will let extra money go to use. +5 nifty points.
Ocean: You can have characters move up while using a skill by selecting the "move to target" option in the skill-battlechar-animation-doohickey within the skill tab...?

I'm looking hard, but I can hardly see it >:(

The final segment of the World Map from Dragon Fantasy II. You can even see the dark castle of doom on there, too.
That is a really cool world map, from the general shape of it. Hard to see any detail from that view, though.
Yay! Snow on a Dragon Quest-style map! I think that only ever occurred a few times in the series. Dragon Quest II, V, and VIII.
As for the desert on the western continent, that is one sparse desert. I take it that's the great desert of doom, while the smaller one on the northeast continent is just a general desert.

Mind you, that's only a segment of the overall map. The whole thing is...alot bigger. Yeah, it's pretty bad to have such a big map, but most of it is a one-time walk only, so eh. Only at the end do you need the Boat+Balloon, and even ten it's not THAT hard to find your way back. You can still go back to beginning towns and make your way back fairly easily once you have the Balloon.
And yeah, the desert on the North East continent shown in the picture I posted up is only a very small, sandy area. The big desert to the South is the actual DESERT of the game. Then, once everything is done up there, it's down to the Dark World to resolve everything! So I still have another small map to go.
And...how close am I to finishing it? Hrm...well, I can say that I'm over half way. There is still a good bit of work to be done, though, such as optional quests, the final areas/quests/maps, and the rest of the story.
Thanks for the comments! =D

Well, they can.
You don't even need to look at Yemen. Just look at the Sahara.
Lack of water is only one way a piece of land can become a desert.

I know! Desertification and all that crap
Its just that common sense does not dictate
arid areas like deserts being almost completely
surrounded by water.
But it doesn't mean that they can't be.
It just feels weird to me.
Good map Ephiam ;)

Well, you gotta remember that the sea is salt and salt tends to kill green things. If it's the only water available...
Anyway, that does look pretty nice, Ephiam.
And Max? Yay for scrolls!
