See, the difference is that one noticing something by pointing it out as a thing that everyone knows about (like Kloe and fearful's posting) and the other consists of actually digging around to prove what you're saying is true. One anyone can see and say "yeah, that's right", backing you up. No out-of-thread bullshittery needed. The other requires you to present proof that has not been accepted into the trial. Proof that can be taken out of context or made to mean more than it is.

I'm not saying that it's not true, I'm just saying it's pretty bullshit to do.

Ah, you're right.

It can put people at either an unfair advantage or disadvantage, and in a game like this it's not even a logical method to scum-hunting. I don't think I'd mind a rule against that now.

Eh, I don't really know about the meta-gaming thing. It's like, there is no way of knowing that how someone posts in mafia is consistent with how they post in general.

Like, take fearful, for instance. His first posts were so "himself", what else do we think of him BUT meta?

This isn't a "style" thing. I mean the style fits but that's not really evidence so much as just suspicious. This thing is 100% though, literally no one else around uses that spelling to the point that it's a fingerprint. To the point where I'm kind of suspicious of anyone /not/ voting by it, but maybe there's less faith in my chatlogs haha.

And @Liberty I'm not sure if it's in the spirit of the game or not, really. I think there's a quote from the game creator that goes something like "if the villagers are allowed to keep pencil and paper, they always win." But as LockeZ pointed out at the beginning of the topic, the helpful town people are those who are familiar with everyone so they can pick out their weird behaviors and tells. Unfortunately since we're playing online and not in person, everyone's "tells" so to speak are archived forever, giving town an even bigger advantage.

I'll avoid searching my IRC logs from now on, but I'd like to point out to pianotm (and to agents/mafia in general) that this sort of thing is possible and to please be careful.
