Eh, I found Cynical Nerds tutorials WAY better. For one, the voice of their main guys doesn't make me cringe, and two, the tactical knowledge and overviews of the characters and their strengths and weaknesses are far more useful.

Getting good at aiming is just practice and learning how to lead targets if your weapon isn't hitscan.

I agree that the Cynical Nerds tutorials are great. They really are. Of course you'll get better at aiming while playing the game, and it's only one factor that affects your performance. But still, those little games pointed out in the "how to get better at aiming" video also work as good practice if you want to get better and don't have access to Overwatch. Like at work, for example... :)

I also found some good vids that introduce the map layouts and shortcuts, and those weren't by the Cynical Nerds channel. Still really really useful, though.

Man these are awesome

16 hours until launch anymore. Hopefully the servers can handle it.

Unlike most modern shooters, except the recent reboot of Doom, your health doesn’t regenerate when you take cover in Overwatch. Instead, you have to either rely on a healing team member, or collect health and armour packs scattered around the map like you’re playing Unreal Tournament 2004.

With this in mind, keeping an eye on your health is an art you’ll have to become accustomed to all over again. And as wise men/fantasy wizards always say: pick your battles. You don’t want to stride towards an enemy with confidence, only to find out you’re a butt-smack away from instant death.

Wait. Health recovers when you are in cover in FPSes? Man, I have been away from FPSes for too long.

Ironically, the last FPS I tried was Unreal Tournament 2004.

Wow. That's been a while.

But yeah, a lot of more recent FPS games have it so that your health recovers if you're not taking damage. While this isn't always a bad design choice, it does take away the "long struggle" aspect of the game since all you need to worry about is "can I survive this one fight" because by the time the next one happens, you're already healed back up.

I'm surprised you haven't heard of this phenomenon already. XD People have been complaining about it for quite a while.
I played DOOM when it was new.

My copy should be arriving today! I'm excited to try it out; maybe it will finally supplant my Tribes Ascend addiction as far as team-based shooters go. I'm playing on PS4; name is Deltree1983 if you want to add me!

Zenyatta is really cool, but I find him hard to use unless there's a Reinhardt in the group. At least if there's snipers in enemy team I find myself always getting picked off too easy as Zenyatta.

Man, I've already sinked over 50 hours to the game.

How it feels to play Reinhardt:

I am pretty bad, all things considered! I mostly stick to Mercy, because it couples my inability to aim with my ability to run around like a chicken with its head cut off. I usually end up with a bunch of kudos after the game, too.

simpsons is pretty old, but basically battleborn is the lee carvallo's putting challenge as overwatch is to bonestorm
I'm glad to see this post!

I never used to be interested in Overwatch until I got an invite to one of the last closed beta stress tests and, from that moment, I was pretty much hooked. It's funny, because I typically hate shooters. Blizzard really does know how to make me love genres that I normally avoid.

Anyway, I try to play at least a few games each day. I'm around level 36 or 37 at the time of this writing and mostly do quick play with Junkrat, Lucio or Symmetra. I'll use D. Va, Genji, McCree, Mercy, Soldier: 76 and Widowmaker from time to time as well. If anyone wants to have some games sometime, feel free to add me. WirtsLeg#1629.

mssrlouiscyphre and i started playing... i love lucio. i wanna git gud at mercy and zarya too, but i am very bad. i need to work on my situational awareness before i play a tank seriously.
Tank is by far my worst role. The only tank I can "sort of" produce results with is Reinhardt. I'd like to try and get better with Winston.

Support is my best class for sure, and Lucio just became my most played hero last night. He's so satisfying to play, especially on maps where environmental deaths are possible to pull off.

Well, Winston is really tricky to use. I legit can't use him for beans. I get my ass handed to me by squishies whenever I use him. :s

I just can't aim my damn pounces.

Zarya is an absolute blast and a monster if you play her right. She's tricky, though. She's the squishiest tank but she does by far the most damage and her shields can provide really useful protection. She's definitely in my top 3 :D

Zarya notes:
  • Her barriers absorb 200 damage and last 2 seconds max. While active, they provide immunity to EVERYTHING, including Knockback, Roadhog's hook, and Zenyatta's orb. They're especially good at countering Mei's ice, and Mei's icethrower will charge you quickly.
  • The last point of Zarya's shields will absorb the full brunt of the attack, which means that Zarya's shields will prevent OHKOs from stuff like Reinhardt charge, Tracer's bombs, Junk Rat's tire, and HIGH NOON. You can save yourself and an ally from many ultimates!
  • Each of your shields can give you up to +50% charge. At 100%, your gun will do double damage. The main fire will kill most tanks in less than 2 seconds~
  • Zarya is squishy, but pairing her with another tank is nasty. Other tanks tend to get targeted like crazy, so they can always use the shield and you'll get charge super fast. Other squishy allies like Tracer and Zenyatta also get a huge boost from the +200 HP.

Other than Zarya, I like playing Mei & Zenyatta, so I guess I just like making things hard on myself ;__; but sometimes I play Reaper when I just wanna point & shoot :P

I've started growing fond of playing Junkrat, though I am terrible with his ultimate. People fall for the bear trap all the time, though.

I'll also use Torbjorn for defense and can typically hold a point on my own against a pubbie team, but I always feel dirty about it. His turret is ridiculous; it seems obvious to me that he should require scrap in order to upgrade/repair/replace it, but that might be too great a shake-up.

I will definitely pocket heal Zarya players though, mostly out of respect. Also, she can do this: https://fat.gfycat.com/ForkedBasicKingbird.webm
