JITTERY WHEN HUNGRY?
Posts
So, occasionally I'll find myself pretty jittery(shaky), but today it was kind of bad, I mean, not bad as in threatening, but I was shaking alot, and it normally happens when I'm very hungry and craving something that I'd probably get within the hour or so. Anybody ever get jittery because of hunger?
Note: I do have ADHD, but I am not sure whether it is related.

Yeah, I eat.
Are you looking for a professional medical opinion?
Uh no. I mean, it's not serious, but it always happens, it just looks weird, isnt uncomfortable or anything.

Have you had a lot of caffeine today? That might contribute to it.
I tend to have a bad habit of drinking alot of soda, so maybe.
yeah, I've definitely experienced this myself. when you're super hungry, stuff's not great! unity's point is also a good one -- when you haven't had much to eat, stuff like caffeine and sugar are generally going to have more of an effect on you in small amounts.

So nothing too sugary when there is no food? I have the tendency of drinking when there is nothing to eat, so what your saying makes sense~

I stopped drinking soda entirely a few years ago. Best dietary decision I ever made.
And you're drinking tons of soda on an empty stomach? Presuming that you're a grown ass adult, cut that shit out. Fuck around and mess up your insulin levels.
My brother has low blood sugar, and gets jittery when he needs to eat and especially if he's had more than one can of soda with caffeine. If it persists and is a problem, it might be worth speaking with a doctor about it.
yeah in general, if you have regular access to a physician, things like this are probably a decent idea to bring up

It's a low blood sugar thing, most likely.
Make sure to keep small, healthy snacks with some protein (I use a cheese stick or a handful unsalted mixed nuts) around, munch a little bit between meals if you need to.
Caffeine can exacerbate the problem, but the main issue I find is sugary stuff- nondiet soda, candy, most snack foods. (If it's got High Fructose Corn Syrup in it, it's gonna fuck with you.)
If you start getting shaky, get a snack ASAP- glass of juice; a sandwich and a glass of milk; a fruit or veggie. I understand carbs are your best plan here.
It's possible this is related to some other issue; if you have other health problems, definitely check with your doctor about it. If you're otherwise pretty healthy, it's just a thing some people have, and it's probably not something to really be concerned with, so long as you keep track of your eating.
ETA: Also don't eat garbage all the time, because that shit makes it worse.

Yeah. When you're hungry, lay off the sugar.
Just so you know, if this is a consistent problem with or without sugar intake, then this is a known indicator that you may be at high risk for diabetes.
Basically, get the crap out of your diet.

If he lives in a western country I doubt carbs are the problem and he likely eats too much as it is.
Healthy fats and proteins is what you want.
there are plenty of people in western countries who are undernourished and not getting enough carbs what are you talking about
she's proposing carbs as an important supplement when someone is already hungry, because that energy will last as opposed to sugars
proposing a low-carb diet to someone who's already eating regularly and eating enough is one thing but if someone isn't eating enough that's an irresponsible thing to say. we're not talking weight loss techniques here, we're talking basic health

my point is that you're answering a question different from the one this situation is asking
No, I'm not. Don't eat too many carbs and eat more protein and healthy fats is not bad advice to tell someone who has the shakes and likely consumes too many simple sugars and carbs as it is. My advice can help with weight loss sure, but it certainly isn't limited to it.
I stopped drinking soda and sugary drinks and i lost like 12 kilos in three months.
I'd get super freaked out if i started shaking.. I hope you're doing well.

Yeah, uh, Feld, don't offer normal person nutrition advice to someone complaining of blood sugar issues. It's a different animal, and I am p. sure you are not Phantasmi's doctor.
Also yeah, the carbs were recommended specifically to fight off a sugar crash.

I stand by what I said. 'More protein and healthy fats' is reasonable nutrition advice to everyone unless you're actually a cannibal, especially to stave off sugar crashes.
While I am confident enough in my background to give general advice on what/how to eat, it was established early in this topic that none of this is professional nutritional advice. You're not Phantasmi's doctor either.
