The perception of there being a lot of SJWs and racists is the problem; they're both small, very vocal groups, and the fact that they're so vocal gives the perception that everyone on the other side is that extreme. We mainly just need to learn how to filter out online noise.

i can't speak for other states, but casual racism is prevalent among both lower- and middle-class people in Maine. it's a pretty complex issue, but suffice it to say i've had a kid rolling around on the ground yelling about obama and the "sand-niggers" before (if you're going to repeat your parent's racist babbling, kid, please ask them to come up with some more unique terms for each region).

if you're trying to equate a few bizarre tumblrinas with consistent, centuries-old prejudice that has become normalized within our culture... idek man. that comic's arguments make no sense. there are absolutely white biases in hiring practices, but that first panel??? not sure many people think that either. also who's fighting for separate rooms again? i thought our evil liberalism was fighting for people to use the same bathrooms.

i also love that according to that comic, "normal" is some skinny white guy lol. at the very least it should have been him and mudasir both staring gormlessly into the camera.

You're right that it's nowhere near as big a problem as Harmonic is trying to make out. It's not even close. I'd say that they're not even in the same league, but they're not even playing the same sport.

Virtue signalling is the biggest crock of bullshit. It's just a shorthand to dismiss people's opinions because "they're just saying that to look virtuous."

Two things. 1) Even if they were, that doesn't change the fact that what they are saying, may, in fact, still be true. And 2) There's no difference from an actual virtuous person saying something they honestly believe and someone "virtue signalling." Unless you can read their mind, you can't call them out on that.

I'm sorry, but I can't take anyone seriously who uses that term in serious discussions.
