IS IT WORTH USING RMVXA AT THIS POINT?

As a new programming student, I finally have the gusto to learn the scripting languages and make a decent sized game. I already own a legitimate copy of RMVXA thanks to a friend, but with the problems I have realized it has (dem FPS drops!) and the introduction of RMMV, I'm wondering if it's worth it to actually use VXA.

RMMV is still buggy at this point and as much as you say that you don't want to use VXA, a lot of people still use XP/VX because it is still functional and by far, efficient.

Plus, VX Ace has some scripts that might interest you and that MV has a memory leak bug as of the moment, so yeah. You only need to use the Task Manager to stop some of the FPS drops (by upping the game's priority) that VXA has or just find a script that preloads some stuff to stop it.
In my opinion, I believe it is worth it. There are plug-ins and scripts you can use to keep the FPS high and stable. From what I understand MV does not even use Ruby scripting language. So, I guess it just depends on if you want to worry about scripting or not. If you already have a copy of VX Ace then I would just make a game with that. However, that is just me.

Wow, that's way worse. Thanks for letting me know about this!

Are these scripts easy to find?
Yeah, let me see if I can link them for you. (Unless someone on here beats me to it.)

Tsukihime RM FPS Control:

Tsukihime Unlimited FPS:

That is the only two I know but I am sure you can find others.

At this point, no. Nothing is worth it. Best just to curl up and wait for the sweet release of death.

Basically this, except unironically.

No, it's not worth. It is older than fifteen minutes, making it absolutely worthless. You wasted every dime you ever spent on it and now that MV is out, the games are trash, too. You may as well stop using MV, too because that also will be pointless at some eventual point in time. In fact, why are you even using engines that make top down RPGs? Those became completely pointless with the invention of 3D imaging, and now you have engines like UnReal, Unity, and Cry Engine.

Basically, abandoning an older system because something new came out is no reason at all. FPS problems are common in everything. I've had them in MV. They get pretty bad, too the longer you playtest. You should at least have a legitimate--SQUIRREL!!!!!

I can say it's kinda daunting that many of the RPGs here seem to be made from VX Ace when it comes to legitimately-obtained engines, but I wouldn't say that's a bad thing.
Memory Leaks depends on what type of game you want to make (Parallax/Prerendered Image Mapping people will suffer. Tile-based not so much). Javascript and being 'open source' (aka everything from in-game is laid out open and no hidden classes) makes it a lot easier to do whatever you want.

The reason RMMV feels extremely buggy is that it's the only RPG Maker that actually gets updated (and some gets broken when the logic is changed but that's easily fixable by the user or Yanfly in general.) VXAce below has a lot of bugs too that the community patches up but not all of them can be.
I appreciate all the responses (even the ones in which people were projecting). I'll give RMVXA a try and see where it takes me, then give MV a look once the bugs have been worked out (and maybe when it's on sale). Thanks all!
You can count me in the "Stay in VXAce" camp, for now at least. I've found that any problem you have with VXAce has been had before and there's way more support in the older forums for common issues. MV is still a frontier. And, while that's exciting, the going can be slower.

As for FPS drops, I'm a big fan of Effectus. It's $20... but I found it worth every penny. The free FPS scripts didn't work for me or interacted funny with some of my other scripts. I think this may be the third time I've posted about Effectus, so the mods are going to start to think I'm employed by them. But I'm not! Really! Just a major fan. It worked WONDERS on some of my larger maps.
They both have trial versions. Try them out and see which you prefer the feel of.

It uses JavaScript, which is just a different language. It can be changed with code just as easily though.

i didn't know you were capable of making sane posts, but yeah this. well, for VXA and XP anyway. VX is pretty bad.

however, one of the benefits to using MV is Nessy
MV is currently too clunky for me to use for more "serious" projects. The lag in the editor (especially when mapping) is just way too distracting and the messed up shift mapping doesn't make it any better.

I'm also pretty sure that the removal of the Resource Manager is a big deal to a lot of people.
...You haven't updated have you? They added the resource manager back in in one of the earlier updates. I highly recommend updating to the newest version, since it also has a dark skin mode added in addition to a lot of fixes.
Rpgmaker VXACE is pretty good... It has it's flaws but still good
