Yeah, Ky is the only person here with everyone's well-being in mind. Listen to Ky.

And me. Listen to me.

I did link mine FYI!

Well, it's just one recommendation, but still!

This might be in poor taste, but the game I made (Ara Fell) is currently on sale for 4.99 on steam with a 92% positive rating. I don't know if a commercial RPG Maker game is the best place to "start" per se, but I might argue Ara Fell is one the most well-rounded RPG Maker games out there.

There's a free demo, and you can also refund Steam games if you play them less than 2 hours. If you do decide to give it a try, please let me know what you think!

I linked the commercial version of Remnants of Isolation because it's the best and also because I like gettin Big Cash Money. Ain't no shame in advertising yourself.

Don't listen to elipswitch. He smells.
Holy frikken cow.

Sorry this may be a bit late, but I've been playing The Gray Garden and focused on that, which is why I didn't check in a while.

I'll be taking some time to read the comments, thanks for all the help :)
Alright, here I go.

I will say this in advance, but I will check the links LATER, as damn there's a lot and I'm currently just taking it one game at a time. I don't have much time anyway as I work 8hrs a day so... bear with me with this :)

All of the people I've listed have made games that are the exemplar of what a good indie game should be. As for puzzlers, I'm not big on them either, but check out games made by CashmereKat or Jeroen_Sol. They've both got some fantastic puzzlers.

Gee thank you for the long list.

Welcome, Nikechu!
Just a showcase of the trailer for the expanded version of OneShot:

There are also other RPGs that I like, but they probably are not the ones you're looking for since those are pure RPGs that are more into levelling/fighting bosses (pretty much the early Final Fantasy-style games) and are a bit more to the hardcore side.

Thank you for the trailer, that actually really caught my curiosity as it can be difficult without knowing what I am going to play. To start with I may be playing the top rated games first, well because they are good. I did the same with anime tbh, then later got into lesser famous anime and enjoyed them as well.

Edit: Oh, also for the notification system, there is not one in place like this with @sthsth, it is often used to adress people in posts though (as you did).
You automatically get notifications for new posts in threads, statuses, reviews etc. you created by default.
You can also subscribe/unsubscribe to specific threads or gamepages to be kept up to date with notices to anything added to it. It doesn't count edits tho, thank god. That's how this site works.

That kinda seems annoying, but I guess it's how things roll here, I'll get used to it sometime. So far I really like this community and will probably stay here.

author=Kylaila
And as a sidenote, most developers here aren't in it for the profit, either. It is mostly a hobbyist-community. So it's just normal game-loving peeps for the most part.

Yeah, if it was something with full blown ads and every post where like: "Check my game out it's great, only 0.99$" then I'd be thrown off by it, really. But if it's something like @Sooz did then it's fine.

Fair enough, Sooz. Let's provide a link to The Book of True Will while we're at it!

Will check it later.

How funny, I just bought it before I read your quote. I'm thinking, if free rpg's can be this fun, then what about paid ones? Definitely going to give this a try. It's not like I'm against turn based RPG's, I remember once playing a turn based game in Playstation and I loved it, I forgot the name though...

Sorry gotta go, I will check up later if I missed some comments!

Just as a warning, this is not always a reliable measure.

Ara Fell and Remnants of Isolation are more exceptions than the rule. They're great games, but most paid indie games tend to be as unmemorable as most other indie games. Don't let that entirely put you off of paid games. There are plenty of really good paid indie games out there.

In general, I'd recommend giving significant attention to a commercial game's reviews (more than its score alone), which will usually let you know if there's something not-so-great going on in there. (An occasional problem on Steam.) The indie market is kind of caveat emptor these days.

Yeah I know, but it was mainly because of the positive ratings. The trailer looked nice as well. I will most likely be careful to buy any indie games. I will pick the indie games based on trailers etc.
I found an interesting site made from VGPerson and he translated some neat rpg games too. In fact Ara Fell will probably be the only RPG I bought. At least in a long while.

Also, thanks for the links earlier :)

I'll be sure to be on the lookout for that as well.

Now, I'm not the type to play a game several times to get several endings, I play it once then I move on. Especially in this case as there's just so many games out there... Is that a no-no or? I don't expect to become an elitist, but more the casual gamer. I will probably cross some buggy games (already did in fact), same with some bad translations/grammar or whatever's out there. I'll probably think it's funny, but at the same time won't look down on the main thing itself, the game. However that might be difficult on story-heavy games, .

You should also buy Remnants of Isolation because it's hella cool and I did awesome monsters for it.

Also it's like 2 bux so it's basically less than the price of a fizzy drink in some places! And offers much, much more satisfaction, at half the calories!

Man, play however you want! If anyone looks down on you for it, fuck 'em!

Dude, you know, sometimes, I don't finish a game on the first play through. Sometimes, I don't play a game at all.

True story, man.
Everyone plays games differently. Some grind for hours, others get everything in the game, some just want the story. Just have fun!

Sometimes when I play a game I try and get every item and grind for hours trying to get overpowered. Other times I play through just for the story. Sometimes I try to speed run a game. It is just whatever I feel at the time.
The moment you have limited time, you want that time to be good~
Haha. There's many reasons we play the way we play, and it's part of the fun : )
Most games here tend to not have the greatest replay-ability anyway.
Enjoy : )
And tell us about your favorites, yes?

As a side note, VGPerson is a she. Just saying :)

And I'm a translator too! Only translated two games, but long ones (and am currently working on a 3rd one). I didn't want to recommend them earlier because they may not be to your liking, but you can still check them out regardless:

Seraphic Blue - https://rpgmaker.net/games/2727/ (About 50 hours long)
Nocturne: Rebirth - https://rpgmaker.net/games/7809/ (About 10-20 hours long)

And about the trailer that I showed you (OneShot), just to re-emphasize that this is a really good game that I highly recommend playing (especially the Steam version).
I actually played Nocturne, great game and story.
