[RM2K3] EXP CURVE (WITH DYN RPG)

Posts

Pages: 1
Hello everyone,

I think that's common knowledge that RPG Maker 2003 exp curve is not the best.
It's pretty flat and doesn't increase a lot with levels.

I'm using the basic battle system in my project and I want to know if there's a way to customize the exp curve with Dyn RPG.

What I would want is to have something more exponential, like:
Level 1 = 100 exp
Level 2 = 150 exp (+50%)
Level 3 = 225 exp (+50%)
Level 4 = 337 exp (+50%)
Level 5 = 506 exp (+50%)

Is it possible?

Note : My project have a lot of playable characters and there's several curves shared between them (like 10 different ones).

Thanks!
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

This old post from last year is talking about this issue and includes a link to an example DynRPG plugin that changes the EXP formulas to RM2K's formulas. It could be modified to change the formulas to whatever you want. However I have no experience with DynRPG, so pointing you in the right direction is the most I can personally help you.
I just realized thatyou can simply alter the amount of experince each monster gives for whatever the heroes' level is at that point in the adventure. Or surreptitiously increase/decrease experience while walking, or interacting with events.

That last option is super misleading to the player; don't do that.

Changing how much XP monsters give is not "simple." I mean, maybe if you're good at writing plugins, then it is. But it still can't be any easier than changing the XP curve. It's a popular thing to do in RPGs, so there might be a plugin that's already made for it, if you're interested.

Honestly, I cannot see how or why that would be used in any RPG. Walking and gaining/losing EXP just seems way over the top. Maybe I could seeing like a special dungeon that sucks away at the player's XP but even still...

I could see how losing a battle would make the player maybe lose some XP (of course in a realistic sense this makes no...sense)

It's not something to be considered an actual game mechanic, but a bodge to adjust the experience curves to one's own liking. With DynRPG it's obsolete, but for people who don't have DynRPG and want to adjust the experience curves, the only other option seems to be manipulating experience directly.
