They told me I was mad when I said I was going to create a spidertable. Who’s laughing now!!!

Ah, gotcha.

IDK, ultimately genres are necessary but frustratingly undefinable once you start hitting outliers. (Also the medium of games is still a tiny babby so everything's still squishy and vague and tends to poop itself routinely.)

They're Yume Nikki fangames in the same way JRPGs are Chrono Trigger fangames. I guess you could call it a "Yume-Nikki-like" in the same way the roguelike genre was named. Although I would prefer the term "non-linear walking simulator". It's similar to Slender, I feel.

I supposed it was the non-linear walking simulator in an enclosed area to collect points to finish the game, dodging obstacle/s. Although I realize now that it's not non-linear in mission scope, and that you have to collect all these notes in series.

Slender's... not really a walking simulator, per se. There's a definite failure condition to it, based on the gameplay.

I guess if you never pick up the first note and just wander around and look at stuff, you could make it one, but the game itself does have (barely) enough traditional gameplay to not fit in the definition. (At least, the definition as I understand it.)

Like, the entire point of Slender is "get notes, don't die;" there's not much else to do. By contrast, gathering the effects in YN and achieving the ending are almost an afterthought, and I feel only considered the "point" of the game because people have trouble with the idea of a game with no particular goal or intended end state. It's a thing you can do, and the game will be over, but nothing in particular about the game encourages it. If anything, the point of YN is "Here's some stuff. Please enjoy."

YN is probably the least enclosed you can get in a game.
