I hope I have time for this event when it starts if it's one of the retro events, because I am going on vacation some time in June.

So I threw all the retro games I know into a scrabble box and shook the fuck out of it and got:
The Dark Wizard, Mordak the Malevolent, has kidnapped Princess Hime! Fearing for his daughter's life The King has given in to Mordak's demands to allow the evil organization Anaconda to bring Onions into the realm with devastating effects on the populace. To save the realm and his daughter the King has summon the bare chested barbarian hero Morg and ordained him with a quest: Rescue his daughter from the evil wizard and his dragon and stop the evil machinations of Anaconda and its leader, Lord Anaconda!

If that could be extended to Game Boy, I had a neat Game Boy game project that I never got started on that I could restart (or do a prequel of)! :D That would be a lot of fun! Hopefully that's allowed! (assuming that Retro wins, which seems highly likely at this point XD)

Well, the update that came out at the same time as I released Generica TNG also updated Generica with a caterpillar system, some backgrounds, and some fixes. But the original game was made in 10 days!
I would really like to take part in this event, but I have little knowledge of retro games and it seems that 10 day retro is going to win.

I mean there's nothing stopping you from grabbing an emulator and mainlining a bunch of old games. Shit, you should probably do that anyway, learn your roots!
As long as you're having fun, guys... Besides, retro can mean a fair few things depending on genre (I mean, c'mon, Mario is retro. So is Sonic. Ghosts and Gouls. Leisure Suit Larry. Doom.) Graphics aren't the only thing that can be retro - story/plot, writing, gameplay, music, general design, etc. Doesn't have to be graphics-based (though most people probably will do something along those lines to easier correlate the theme).
And I don't see why gameboy games wouldn't count. inb4 someone makes a pokemon blue/red fangame

I'm kind of sad that I've got an idea I'm all fired up about because otherwise I'd be planning for an Atari 2600 style gam.

I am trying to find good quotes from Clash a Demonhead because it's hilarious for weird NES plots and 90% of what I find is from Scott Pilgrim >:I
I'm gonna have to watch a Longplay and take notes or something.
I'm also kinda torn on how I want to do graphics for a retro game. Ripping from NES games like DW is the easiest way to get a rudimentary retro aesthetic but I can't find a tileset in Ace's format and ripping myself would take time. On the other hand there's always the RTP which matches the DW design except it's all in 32x32 (or 48x48 for MV) and not in the NES palette and limitations.
With my track record for completing event games I'll probably just take the RTP route and focus on writing and mechanics or something instead. There's always going back and making an enhanced, xtreme you might say, version of it later!
