CloseOkay, so I have a new project in rm2k3 and I can't get anywhere with it because whenever I try to playtest (or just play it) it doesn't let me get anywhere, not even the title screen, just immediately crashes with the message "Event script referenced an item that does not exist!"
I have tried a few things and I can't figure out what is causing this since I have no event script yet, just maps and a (mostly cleared out and empty) database. Does anyone have any ideas?
My rm2k3 has been working fine for five years, by the way and I don't get this problem when I try to play other games, just mine.

Well I'd reset teh scripts anyway. It could help.
But I've never actually used rm2k or 2k3, so I could be wrong :P
If all else fails, just copy all your data to a new project folder

Max I think that maybe your datbase file (the RPG_RT.ldb) file might have been erased or screwed. I read an article a few days ago about that happening and I'm not sure as to why it happens but it does. It happened to my game "Shrine of Kammuki" and I had to transfer the entire project into a new one ... which is fcking unbelievably time consuming ...
You could try using "RMTOOL" to check if any of your files are missing, other than that you might just have to transfer your project ... so good luck :|

To be clear, it's 2k3 so there are no scripts, and there are also no events!

I tried this and it didn't work. When I copied my maps and database, I got the same problem when test playing.
Are any characters equipped with gear that doesn't exist anymore?
I know it's something LIKE this but no, they don't seem to be equipped with anything. Everything says "(none)".

Well I hope nothing is wrong with my RPG_RT.1db. This is for the halloween contest and no way could I enter if I had to redo all my tileset passability settings.

The problem is definitely your empty database. I'm sorry though, I can't remember exactly what needs to be filled in with something, but I remember this retarded problem distinctly.
Closely check all your DB tabs for things that might be referenced. Even stuff like the title screen / title music.

I think I have RMTOOL lying around here somewhere, I will give it a try.
Yeah just scan your ldb file with the tool and see if it can find what your missing (yn)

It's because there's something referencing an item/spell/hero/animation/etc. that has been cut off due to lowering the max array size on a list.
EDIT: DO NOT USE FUCKING RMTOOL IT EATS YOUR RESOURCES

Okay, I just deleted some of the heroes and that strangely enough fixed this...what a whacky error.
Now I only have the problem of how the fuck do I make light maps without photoshop to contend with.

Yeah I downloaded it but it won't load on my computer!
Anyway, that would be for a whole other thread, I guess. I'm glad I solved this problem but I still don't really understand what caused it...

Really? That sounds like something you would only use if you were preparing to make it into a game file... might be useful then. I've never heard of RMTOOL, though.

RMTOOL is a great program. It scans your entire project and checks what resources you are using / not using ... and It has the option to "Purge" the project, which deletes all resources that are not being used by your project that are in your project's folder. It's pretty useful and helps when decreasing filesize

You need to download runtimes and stuff for GIMP similar to how you do RM programs. Did you install everything or just the Gimp executable? Because there is more than one file to install. It is a pain in the ass and I do not know why they do not make a single installer.

It also eats resources that you are using sometimes.
It may have been caused by one of the following:
- Item being equipped that was no longer 'there'
- Skill learnt that isn't there
- battle poses/graphics that aren't there
- classes that are no longer there
- unarmed battle animations no longer there.
Basically if anything that was there no longer is. It's best to just delete all the heroes at the same time as the rest of the database.

Basically try making all your lists 1000 or something (e.g. item list, hero list) and see which one of them is causing the error :)

The item not existing one is common. Just make sure you have 88 items in your database, but it doesn't matter if they're all blank or all mashed potato potions or what. That always works for me.
And yes, RMTool sometimes kills used resources, but it's like 1/10 times in my experience. I can live with that, personally, since I back everything up.

I think RMTOOL only kills resources on RM2k3 projects, since it was made for RM2k
