OTHER RPG MAKER GAMES THAT INSPIRE YOU?
Posts
Man, this thread is a trip down memory lane. Some of the game's on Blind's list are among the BEST RPG Maker games ever made, which is I know not the topic at hand. I'd like to echo The Way, strongly (I never finished it, but the worldbuilding in the first few episodes alone was incredible, and the dueling system was technically impressive for the time). I feel like iishrenon's Three The Hard Way also deserves at least an honorable mention.
Jesus I am showing my age.
Oh: The Blue Contestant. And on another note, most of Craze's catalogue is very strong.

The world building in The Way is truly among the greatest in RPG history (professional or amateur). I also loved how "battle styles" were used as an actual story telling technique. That's not to say the game didn't have it's flaws. But it certainly had its high points.
I think that great games like Demon Legacy, Legion Saga and the infamous Laxius Power series are a mix of incredible perseverance and creativity, and for that they inspired me since my early RPGMaker days.
Some games really inspired me for their "unique" battle mechanics (because anything that didn't use the generic battle from RM2k and RM2k3 for me was already unique). Like Kindred Saga's custom battle system, the battles at Three The Hard Way were incredibly fun for me and also one of my top RPGMaker games of all times (still waiting for Queen's Court though), Destined and Heart of Evil were also amazing.
Anyways, I could go on with this list, but I'll finish it with some games you guys probably don't know but were really inspiring for me.
- School of the Dead
A comedy game made with RM95 that tells the story about a boy going to a normal high school, having normal friends and normal school activities. Except of course he's pulled to another dimension where he and his colleagues become slaves of the school and must fight for their lives to go back home. Yayy...?
- Las Aventurietas del Robercleiton TURBO
It's time for some great metacritical RPGMaker comedy game! In this game you are Robercleiton, the great sexy protagonist that is going to save the world from the clutches of the Evil CCFs ("Caras com Futuro" or simply evil guys that have a future), and their plan to dominate the world with strawberry biscuits, giant tokusatsu monsters and... Michael Jackson music? I don't even know what else to say.
- Drake Legend: The River of the Dragons
The story of a young boy and his childhood friend in a quest to prevent the revival of the great dragon of destruction. Might look quite generic, but It was really well made at the time.
...Ohh, and Hero's Realm was also quite inspiring of course.

You know, of all the RPG Maker games I've played, I don't think there's one more inspiring than Wildcard. It's a simple, mostly RTP-filled affair, but it packs a lot of content into the default systems that really impressed me as I played it. I'm not sure I could ever make some heavily customized indie darling by myself, but I could probably pull off a Wildcard if I put my mind to it.
