[POLL] WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE UNIVERSE AND WHY?

The Pokémon universe wins out for me for one reason.

You can train a bird to be your best friend and fly around on it. Better yet, you can carry it with you in a little ball wherever you go.

That's just the dream. A pet with such intelligence and strength that you can use as the most convenient, portable and just downright awesome mode of transportation imaginable.

Think about it. It's faster than a bicycle, more mobile and less prone to traffic than a car, has a better availability than any other form of transportation, and fits in your pocket.

FF8's universe is pretty cool. It has trains.

And flying high schools.

And trains.

And an evil space witch jamming every radio frequency on the planet with messages about how much she wants to kill everyone.

And trains.

While not really a universe, probably the best setting ever was the Kingdom of Zeal in Chrono Trigger. From the moment you arrive it's so different and mysterious compared to everything you've seen before. It feels so huge and grand and there are so many parts of it you never get to see and you only get to visit it for moments at a time just heightens its mystique. Everyone there is so idyllic and spend their time dreaming or studying the universe. It all seems so magical! Then you get to the palace and suddenly it becomes very apparent that there's a lot wrong here. God, there's enough going on in Zeal that it could be its own game.

Thinking about how true that "Stay for a while, come back in six months" tagline can be. (I think it was Max who came up with that?) I suppose that can happen when your job at a hospital stroke ward adds up with attempts to get into Serious Programming, and you also get a Quora addiction as the result of the latter.

So, Merry Christmas to all the people here who celebrate it today! Happy Holidays to those who don't, or do it on the 7th (is there anyone else?).

I voted other, originally for our universe since it's a pretty neat universe all thigns considered.

But I also have an incredibly soft spot for the Warhammer 40,000 universe. It's just so damn massive an over the top. I sometimes just like to imagine the life of someone who lives on one of those gigantic spaceships and never actually properly leaves it but is born, raised and dies on it. Probably never even seeing actual space, but instead there's a complete society of people who just work... in an engine room. Because everything in that universe just has to be extravagantly large.

always thought the world of Secret of Mana would be nice as a kid.

I used to lay awake at night for hours fantasizing for hours about living in the Secret of Mana world. Phannah was my wife and the sprite was our child, for some reason.

Heh. I can't talk because I did the same thing with Terra. Still to this day the sight of her green hair gives me a rush of oxytocin.

Digimon, because it's like Pokemon but your companions actually have personalities

I breathe Zelda! Pun intended.

Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask created worlds which I love to explore and enjoy the atmospheres of. It creates unique cultures that just appeal to me in ways that other fictional universes never have.

Final Fantasy would be my favorite universe! xD :D
