I've seen well rated games, plenty of them, that I don't like. I've see alot of featured games that look really really good, unless they are stuck in demo hell, or worse, never get a download.
I want a game with:
Numina, Love and War, Forever's End, Painted Heart, Touhou - Wandering Souls, Pocket Quest!, Phantom Legacy, those are the sorts of games I like. Stuff like this. I've tried all sorts of search filters, but I kinda want recommendations instead based on what I listed.
If you lead me to something boring though, I will punish you. In the name of the evil laughing moon from Soul Eater.
I want a game with:
- Non-generic graphics (especially for VX games, I can't stand those square walls and 1x1 munchkins.
- Interesting features (alchemy, cool scripts, custom menus, or custom battle systems)
- At least semi-original plot, or if not a strong character-driven story

Almost all featured games (bar the in-progress one that is at the top-right of the page) are complete games. Just wanted to point that out. We don't do non-finished games for features (unless you're talking about games under the headers of buzzing, new and notable, etc).
Honestly, the best way to do this is to just go through a bunch of games and see what you get.
I could also recommend checking out the Catalogue on RMN's youtube page - there's about 100 games with their first 10 minutes shown and links to their pages so you can check if they're complete or not.
Or check out the downloads page of the games you liked and see what games are recommended on them. You could also check out the playlists that those games are featured on, too.
Here's two of my playlists you might want to check out for ideas/recs.
Classics: https://rpgmaker.net/users/Liberty/playlists/39869/
Quirky: https://rpgmaker.net/users/Liberty/playlists/39870/
Another idea is to check out past events and see what was made for them. Some of the event games end up being pretty good and completed.
(Have you tried The Way series? The graphics are a bit different to the usual jrpgs you see around but it's a 6-game series with some pretty great story telling and character use.)
