HAVE SOME ART!

Posts

Hey guys. Since I'm not actually a game maker, though I do hope to start learning my way around the programs and make a very short and simple little game of my own, I thought I'd offer my services to those who are not artistically inclined.

There are a lot of fantastic artists on this site! I'm amazed at the array of talent RMN has got going on.

Here's some of my crap. I do a lot of different styles. I'm very bad at drawing backgrounds, and pretty okay at drawing people.

Here is an action shot (lineart) that's still one of my favorites. It's somewhat anime style.:

Obligatory anime-style big-breasted woman with sniper rifle (yes I know her eyes are too big, it's a stylistic choice ; )). That is an uncolored rock she's sitting on.

My most recent drawing, more ladies, in my normal style (I try to steer away from Anime):

Max's avatar, full picture. I really love the Pieta and I also love the IG series, so... fanart. It still needs to be shaded, but the lineart alone took an ungodly amount of time and effort. Oh, and the binary on the GAIA's dress, I think, is part of the word 'mother,' though I drew it so long ago it's hard to remember if that's correct:

For IG fans (lol):

Lastly, not people at all, but a set of emblems I did from scratch on Photoshop with pen-tool:

Also, play Ruptured Souls to see my litemaps.

Any feedback from the resident artists would be appreciated. But be gentle - most of this stuff is over a year old.

Thanks for checking it out!

I like this one! ;D

Anyway, I've seen most of these and have already commented.
Nice to see a post from a new resident artist!

Firstly I will say that I really like your work on the logos. They are all quite attractive and convincing. Definitely my favorite of the bunch here.

Your figurative work is interestingly variable. One comment I do have is that in some pictures you seem to have a decent grasp of the figure (the dynamic fighting shot, the Pieta/IG fanart), but in others not as much so (the two colored women, the anime girl w/ big boobs).

Another critique is that your linework (not so much in the two ladies and Pieta pic, where it sorta works) is a bit rigid and does not have much stroke variation. The result is a pretty boxy and inorganic look. Not sure how to describe it better. Does that make sense?

But yes, post often. I don't post as much stuff as I should myself. =)
Wow you draw really good!
Sadie ftw! I like the way she winks at me ;)

As far as I am concerned, this is a good grasp of the female figure. :P
Hey, I'm not critiquing to hurt aprilschild's feelings.

I am just offering an honest assessment from my PoV. =)

Take that however you like!

Overall looks pretty good. Maybe some proportion problems, but overall "solid" lineart as in terms of proportions. For the pieces you've made on pc, they could use some variation on line thickness, and those made with free hand, could be less sketchy!

What a ha- I mean, interesting make-up!

I think I've seen some elements used on these somewhere before. I guess you just used some stuff as reference?

Edit: Oh yeah and maybe the biggest problem you have, is with hands. They all seem too big or small, but hands are particullary hard to draw. There's some good tutorials in youtube btw. But, they're not that bad. Good overall.
I like the anime girl you've drawn the best.

The rest looks good as well. :)
I'm not qualified to critique art, but I liked what I saw (cept' for Sadie in the third pic... I thought she looked a tad off in proportions)

The rest were really well done, I particularly liked the chick with the gun and the multi-colored eyes and your logos. You have a good eye for poses too, as far as I can see.

I would definitely have you do conceptual art for a game if I were making one.
I see some really great work here, particularly the action scene in the first image, and of course, the ladies in the third. I also got a kick out of Mario the Fallen. Sadly, Mario is far too light-hearted for such a dark-themed game.

I'm making a couple of games that might need some conceptual art- Dragon Kingdoms: Birth of a Legend and Dragon Kingdoms VI- Heroes of the Past. The former is in progress, and the latter may resume on Action Game Maker in 2009, seeing as it has a lot of the same action RPG elements.

How old are you? I want to understand what level of cartooning I'm commenting on.

i love the coloring but you do need to work on your proportions, nice concept too :) keep up the good work.
Hey guys, thanks for the replies. Sorry I was absent all weekend, I couldn't get to my computer.

To address some things.

To those of you who said I have some issues with proportion, I could say that those pictures that had difficulty with proportions were meant to be stylized. But also, those were pictures I did without reference, so I guess there's an issue there too.

Also, as for the lineart, I agree. As I said, this is some pretty old computer stuff, and I only just found out within the last 6 months how to get the brush dithers working with photoshop and my wacom. ::) oops, go me.

@Dudesoft: I can buy myself a beer but I can't rent a car. Good enough answer?

Although I have to feel a little... strange... answering that question. I mean does my stuff look like it was drawn by a 14-year-old or something?

ANYWAY, thanks a lot everyone! I'll probably post more art later. I hope to see more art from everyone else as well!

This is meaningless unless you say what country. :P

That's just part of the guessing game.
OKAY.

Here is... I guess... somewhat newer. At least more 'loose' computer lineart. It's Lewis from Disney/Pixar's "Meet the Robinsons" which I loved in spite of myself.

I know his pants are wrong. No one has to tell me that : )

Also, this is something I did in class today. Very sketchy, didn't take more than half an hour. I like it anyway. Tim and Raechel from Backstage II.

Oh yeah, I should have put this one in the last batch, because it's also pretty ancient. However, it's probably my best work to date... though upon further inspection I can see some issues (mostly with her hands). Book illustration.

Whaddaya think, sirs?
"whaddaya think, sirs?"

(are you an MST3K fan or something?)

As for the art, I would have guessed the third one was done by a different artist.
They're all good, cept for one of the lady's eyeballs on the second one.

To ask me if I'm an MST fan would be to ask the Pope if he just so happens to believe in Catholicism.

:P Glad someone caught the reference.

And thank you for your feedback, I see what's up with Raechel... ah, well, this was a sketch after all.
You're welcome!
