Here's a suggestion:

We need more goddamn RMVX scripts and we need them organized into a convenient and easily accessible goddamn database. The lack of these things ANYWHERE ON THE INTERNET is really pissing me off.

Agreed. It's incredibly hard to find something that fits your ideas out there. I've thought about taking up RGSS2 myself, but it'd be the very first programming language I'd learn. Is it worth it?

Not sure if that really fits into the way RMN3 is developing, Max.

It would be a crime not to, however. :(

That's a shame, I think if we pulled that off it would draw people in.

Anyway...how so? Please don't tell me we're "moving away from RPG Maker/amateur game making" like GW supposedly is. :(

Offtopic, and I'm not a very experienced coder at all, but I would say it's better to have some basic grounding in something else (C(+), JavaScript, even something simple like HTML) before attempting to learn Ruby just so you understand how programming languages in general work.

Not even close.

wittily expresses relief.
Now you have me wondering what direction we're moving in.
My suggestion was that once you decide what to do with the maker points, you could award more points to games that have been rated highly by its' players.

There should probably be some sort of group of reviewers (hell, round up those who've reviewed the most in recent months) who can band together to clean up the scores so they truly reflect the quality of the games submitted (there are tons of idiotic demos that are rated 5 simply because no one has bothered to challenge their rating by PLAYING them and offering any real criticism) then distribute points based on the quality.

In addition to the Misaos, there could possibly be a mid-year (June/July or so) mini-award thing for early year for stuff that may have been missed in the previous December/January. Minor demos can get attention from this. (or perhaps a Best DEMOS contest to encourage people who've submitted demos to actually COMPLETE their work for a change).

Of course, every 2 months I'm doing the 3-Hour Game Contest to keep people on their toes and participating. I might offer incentives outta my own pocket if I start seeing some fun stuff!

YES.
About RMVX scripts: There is a chance WIP and I might have a surprise in one/two months maybe.
i'm new, so i don't know the place that well, but i like it so far and figure i may as well give my $0.02!

i would suggest everyone wanting to support the forum posts as much as possible. the more active a forum is, the more attractive it is to anyone who stumbles upon it.

i recently read a book called "the tipping point" (highly recommended!!). one of the topics it talked about was "the stickiness factor". once someone tries something (ie sees the forum), they have to want to come back. a billion people may as well visit and not stay and register and it still would seem empty here. this might sound trivial, but it just reminds a person to actually consider if it is worth sticking aroudn for. even if it is the same members posting a lot, it is better that there are a lot of replies to each topic.

another thing i would suggest is contests- i think this has been suggested already, but that would probably have more new page views here. provided they like what they see, it would be helpful. it seems to me like th deviantart community loves these. an actual cash prize would definitely draw people in. otherwise, just some type of award or something might be worth it to people! if someone was up for running this, it would just be a matter of spreading the contest through deviant art and other art sites.

We've talked about contests but we never seem to get them off the ground. Release Something and Play Something have been super super great for stimulating site activity though if that is any consolation!

The thing with cash prizes is that most of us are poor college students, many of us are poor high school students, and the rest of us are adults with better things to spend money on. :(

We just had a pixel contest with a cash prize, and a map contest with a cash prize a few months ago.

We are going to be having another cash prize contest very soon.
Why don't we make groups on Myspace, Facebook and other sites like that for Indie game designers? That way we get more game designers and could advertise RMN.
