HOW DO I EDIT RPG MAKER 2003 JAPANESE GAME IN THE ENGLISH VERSION?

I Am trying to open a japanese game in rpg maker 2003 english version but I can't access the images files. They are all dark as in they are not showing up when I edit picture,tileset,charset etc...
so does anyone know how to fix this?
