CHRONO TRIGGER DS

Magus's title is "fiendlord". I think the word fiend sounds strange, but I forget what they called him in the SNES version. Anyone remember? Was it fiend?
My Japanese isn't fluent by the way, I got a long way before I can make that claim.

He was always just Magus for the SNES English translation. Magus' Japanese name is ?? which I've heard is closer to 'Fiendlord' than 'Magus'.

Having played CTDS now, the song in the cathedral mentions Magus by name so I don't know anymore v

They could translate it better than the word fiend though. I don't know, for some reason fiendlord sounds really strange to me. Darklord. Demonlord. Netherlord.
I'm being picky I guess. I think it's because I always read it as feignlord for some reason.

I think they're all really corny and I liked it more when it was just a name. The retranslation has its ups and downs but so far I prefer the original.
What happened to my Lode Sword? Why! ;.;
And damn, but it froze on me when I was being teleported to the past. There goes my Silver sword (GRRR).

Also note, there is a brand new ending. You can find it on YouTube if you want to spoil yourself.

the new translation is good in some ways because it clears certain things up a bit and also changes little things that were stupid (like that woman in leene square who inexplicably hates fairs).
BUT it also changes some things for the worse.... like, that woman no longer calls Ozzie, Flea, and Slash "Tone-deaf, evil fiends!"
boo.

Why not?
Seriously just patch it. Unless it has some Earthbound-ish protection that was missed (I haven't beaten the game yet) the patch removes the flash card copy protection.

Hey, maybe I will get this and finally play Chrono Trigger, something I have never done, past the first hour or so.
HEATHEN!
For anybody on the fence about this, here's a rundown of the new bits:
- 2 new dungeons, one accessible during normal gameplay and 1 after starting a New Game+ (this one has the new final boss/ending that everybody's talking about in spoiler tags)
- Arena of the Ages (train a monster and duel them against other monsters either controlled by the AI for in-game items or wirelessly with friends for bragging rights)
- Complete retranslation (While some of the CLASSIC lines are now gone, I've found more than a few new lines to be better than the originals)
- All of the anime cutscenes of the PSX version without the epic slowdown fail
EDIT:

Hrm. I almost want to say it's like Harry Potter, in that the Fiendlord title somehow instills less fear than "Magus", but that's using an example that came out after the original game did.
Oh well.

The first one is awful. It looks like a "My First RPG Maker Game" with fetch quests and broken bridges of about equal quality. Here's some examples:
A 'marsh' area (think Forest Maze) has a line of trees serving as a wall. A literal straight line. The entire area is like this.
The hub town is a cave with a bunch of openings that do nothing with the inhabitants standing in front of the doors. I know the towns in CT are mostly on the world map but the Earthbound cave in 12K BC is better than that sorry mess. It doesn't even change based on the time period (although how much time passed is never mentioned, but it was enough for the 'marsh' to become a forest)
Fetch Quests that are summed up as "I need Item(s) X/Y/Z" which you can get by talking to the inhabitants of both towns or opening chests in the various areas that you can explore. Giving them the items does nothing except "Thanks! Take this possibly useless item!" (Well, one gave a Haste Helm so I can't complain about that) before going back to standing in front of their door.
The obstacles in new areas can be summed up as no light to make the party turn back, clairvoyance that the party decides they don't need to be in that area, and a
The concept is neat (I think its meant to be the other dimension where the Reptites won) but its executed in one of the worst ways possible making it the worst part of the entire game. Thankfully its optional for the main game but you do have to clear it to fight the secret boss (or so I've heard).
I've heard the other is good though. I'm looking forward to it.
Looking at how pitiful the Monster Arena looks (and is), it comes as no surprise the new content is shoddy at best. The people who were responsible for Chrono Trigger are long gone; and this remake is a bitter reminder of this.
Maybe it's just me, but after fighting Giga Gaia, did the remakers actually go in and screw with the bosses? I don't remember ever seeing a tech call "Gaia Magnade".

The new translation does clear up some stuff about Chrono Cross. I don't think hope is lost.
For the record, Magus was always a title, not a name. "Magus" is just the singular of "magi." It's like a fancier way of saying "Mage." It'd be pretty weird if his name AND title were "Magus," though.
Do they call the mystics fiends in this translation? Becuase that would make the "Fiendlord" title pretty sensible. I'm pretty sure they referred to him as the leader of the mystics often enough in the original.

I had completely forgotten about the Monster Arena. I did two fights and called it the day because it was as boring as hell and just as unprofessional as the Lost Sanctum.
Recommendation: Read a FAQ when doing the Lost Sanctum. Its as boring as hell and confusing at times to what you do next. Just get it over with as quickly as possible.
I've almost finished the game the first time around, only have to finish the Black Omen and the Lost Sanctum, but I really don't want to do the Lost Sanctum. It's amazing how much I enjoy going through the game still though. Can't wait to whiz through it on new game plus finding all the endings and such.
Playing right now and the game's still fun after all these years.
A few gripes:
New translation sucks. Woolsey's personal touches transformed even mediocre scripts into pure gold.
New content sucks. It's like they added it a whole ten minutes before deadline just so that old players may have an incentive to beat the same game AGAIN. Plus those idiots can't map for shit (I bet they'd get flamed to death were they to post their maps on GW :)
New C-M-S sucks. Changing equipment and using healing techs is now a chore.
Would it kill them to include a fast scroll button to the monster/item encyclopedia?
But all these things aside, this is a damn good port. And the graphics somehow look tons better on that small screen.
