New translation sucks. Woolsey's personal touches transformed even mediocre scripts into pure gold.

I've only seen bits and pieces of it, but I hear the new translation is the best part.

Yeah, like I mentioned earlier, some of the classic lines are now gone... such as...

- "Show us your stamp collection, son!" when entering Guardia Castle for the first time in 600AD
- Johnny, the robot in 2300AD, is now referred to as "Bro" instead of "THE MAN"

Those are the only two classic lines I bemoan the loss of. Otherwise, a lot of the new lines are superior to the originals. Hell, I even agree with them removing Frog's accent, because it was kind of jarring at times during the original.

Frog's accent was retarded, considering

1. He was the only one who spoke like that in his time period
2. He didn't even have it in the original translation.
Both translations are good but I agree that the new one is better. Hell the translation is the best addition of CTDS (but that honestly isn't too difficult to do)

To get to the second optional dungeon beating the game isn't enough. You have to clear the Blackbird before you can even get to the Dimensional Vortex. Thanks SE :I
In the old translation I remember Frog uses the words "not" and "naught" in the same sentence.

...I guess I never really thought about it before, but, yeah... his accent didn't really make sense. First of all, he didn't seem to have it when he was Glenn. Second, nobody else in the Middle Ages talked like that. Which would lead one to believe that maybe when Magus zapped him into a frog, he also zapped an accent into him. Actually that's kind of hilarious. Now I miss the accent...
I just beat it for the first time. The anime PSX ending was interesting.
I just fought the new end boss and got destroyed.

I'm going to have to have a strategy next time I try, I couldn't do a BAM BAM BAM without thinking.
Three posts in a row:

He wasn't that hard.

If you didn't already start a New Game Plus, you don't have to, you can go on your old file to the Vortex.

Time to find all the endings, etc!

Thanks, that saves me a lot of time. (I almost overwrote my old save too)
I won't be getting this for two reasons:
1:My DS was stolen by my mother for drug money.
2:I hated Chrono Trigger with a passion.
I've almost finished this game and it's been great so far. I really should continue playing it.
I can see disliking Chrono Trigger for being light-hearted, but hating it with a passion... the only reason I can see is as a backlash to its popularity.
Well, I just beat the optional boss and to sum up CTDS:

Looking at how pitiful the Monster Arena looks (and is), it comes as no surprise the new content is shoddy at best. The people who were responsible for Chrono Trigger are long gone; and this remake is a bitter reminder of this.

The Dimensional Vortex was better than the Lost Sanctum but half of it was going through parts of old dungeons with no changes. There was one part where the party had to split up but that was poorly executed and then there was a bloody stealth sequence.

Buy CTDS for CT, the extras aren't worth much.
the extras aren't too distracting, at least. It's still essentially the same Chrono Trigger and currently the easiest way to (legally) get your hands on the game if you don't have it already.

Arghr the Lost Sanctum is so mind numbingly boring.

I'm just using a walkthrough from now on because dull quest on top of dull quest is getting to me.

New final boss was a bit too easy for my liking, but still pretty fun.
Never played the DS version, not yet. What's the deal with this Lost Sanctum place that everyone hates?

Basically a damnable group of reptites keep asking you to do random things like "fetch such-and-such item" and...."fetch such-and-such item" (not a typo). The spoils aren't that bad, but it's still very dull work.

Just bought this game yesterday. I missed out on the original, so this is totally new to me, and I'm impressed. I've always been skeptical about ATB battles, but when it's set to "wait," they're pulled off quite well. If I have any complaints about it, it seems kind of easy and the plot is somewhat on the silly side... but it's still a great game.
Yeah, the game starts off a little slow, but trust me, the story gets much deeper and the battles get much harder.

Anyway, I have yet to pick Chrono Trigger DS. I probably should, considering the only version I have is the PSX one, which takes up 10 seconds of my life whenever it needs to load something!
I more I think about CTDS, the more I feel disappointed that they didn't do more with it. It just had such amazing potential. They could've planned to rerelease Chrono Cross and totally rework both stories to have a little bit more in common (and taken out a lot of characters from Cross). They could've added a hidden time period, and more dungeons that didn't feel like after thoughts. They could've went more into the whole concepts around Lavos and the time gates and all that.

It was good and fun, and the dimensional vortex was made well enough, but it just means there's no real chance of a good remake anymore, because we have this semi-decent one.
